I like country music, but certainly has changed. For the better? Don't know. Hank Jr. Was always my favorite. I saw him in concert 3 times. He got progressively worse. Montana Cafe and live Hank were the last albums I enjoyed. Like Willie Nelson, Crystal Gayle (she had beautiful eyes, and of course the hair. But I like her songs. For years I didn't know she was Loretta Lynn's sister!)
Larry Gaitlan and Johnny Cash were favorites. Johnny Rodriquez too. I like Jerry Reed too, but most of his songs came off as comedy.
Alabama, Oak Ridge Boys, Charlie Daniels... All incredible! Alabama lost a little credibility with me when a friend told me the fiddle player during a live concert used a recording.... Not too big of a deal. Charlie lost a whole lot with me when my ex step father went to his show and bought a T shirt that was made in China. Maybe not always a big deal, but it was right after he put out "In America"
But damn! Could he play the fiddle! Interesting thing about Daniels... On his greatest hits album he gave a new song called "Every time I see him". It actually is a perfectly executed rap song and a country song and a rock song at the same time!
What of Reba, Dolly, Kenny. Loretta, David Allen Coe, George Jones, Waylon? Well yea... Country royalty.
Garth Brooks I like, but after around 1987...country changed. But if he's country, I like him too.
Now, the Dixie Chicks... Yea, I hold a grudge against them. Not because they are liberals (don't care), but because they bashed the Prez overseas... It was classless. But I gotta say, they were the best thing going at the time and I still enjoy their music.
Liked Gretchen Wilson...
Toby Keith, Tracy Byrd (Keeper of the Stars was my Wedding song), Travis Tritt... I am appreciate. Oh, how'd I forget this? Randy Travis!!! He was the man! The chicks, Toby, Tracy, Travis and Randy have shades of what I remember country music as. But Randy was the best of them.
But please.. leave garbage like "Save a horse, ride a cowboy" off the country list. It's not good country. It's not good rap... It's not good anything.
Oh Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy is nothing now compared to some of the stuff today.
I do like Big & Rich's "That's why I pray" though.
