'In whom ye also trusted,
after that ye heard the word of truth,
the gospel of your salvation:
in whom also after that ye believed,
ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession,
unto the praise of His glory.'

(Ephesians 1:13)

Hello there,

It has been said in one of the threads that there are those who have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, but yet do not have the Holy Spirit. Yet, surely a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ not only requires the work of the Holy Spirit, but is also an indication of His presence?

Thank you

Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession,
unto the praise of His glory.'

(Ephesians 1:13)

unto the praise of His glory.
‘... his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Romans 6:16

‘unto praise of His glory.’ Consider that ‘unto praise of His glory’ with ‘Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. [18] But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.’ 2 Corinthians 3:17-18

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty. Something that has stood out in James is verse 24. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. [23] For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: [24] For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

The natural man beholds his natural face in the mirror, (sees himself) and goes his way, and forgets the manner of man he was...

What manner of man was the natural man? Romans 5:15-16 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. [16] And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

The natural man sees himself (was)
But there is another to behold (Is) James 1:25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty. ...beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord

Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession,
unto the praise of His glory.'

(Ephesians 1:13)
The glory of the Lord.

Help, LORD, for no one loyal remains; the faithful have vanished from the human race

Those who tell lies to one another speak with deceiving lips and a double heart.

May the LORD cut off all deceiving lips, and every boastful tongue,

Those who say, "By our tongues we prevail; when our lips speak, who can lord it over us?"

"Because they rob the weak, and the needy groan, I will now arise," says the LORD; "I will grant safety to whoever longs for it."

The promises of the LORD are sure, silver refined in a crucible, silver purified seven times.

LORD, protect us always; preserve us from this generation.

On every side the wicked strut; the shameless are extolled by all.

Peace be with you!

be instant in season, out of season;
.... reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;

Mark 4:16-17 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; [17] And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time, season) afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.

.... having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth,

Wadr, not sure what replies you are seeking for on the topic. Seems you have one and only one reply it can be, and it has to align, or else it doesn’t fit well with the topic presented? Unless, I’ve misunderstood...

I’m sorry, Still unsure of the question, maybe because I’m unaware of ‘it has been said in one of the threads...’

But would consider faith without the Spirit is dead faith. Not being (yet) Alive.

Colossians 1:27. "Christ IN YOU< THE HOPE, = of Glory". Glory is both Eternal life and Heaven."

Also,

Romans 8:9. ""Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his."" Paraphase..."if you are born again, then you are the Temple of the Holy Spirit".....if you dont have the HS, you are not born again.

Where all the weirdness comes in regarding "" infilling, and baptism with the holy Spirit, and a 2nd work of Grace, and "baptized with fire", is when men create the idea that you need more POWER, so, they concocted many ideas of a "double portion" of the Spirit...etc, etc.... and all these bumper sticker type vocabulary appeals to a certain type of person, and there are millions of these type people who follow leaders who teach this stuff.
How can it be, that the most infilled, holy spirit baptized, tongue talking, type people be found sinning and confessing their entire SAVED LIFE??
Does that math work out right?
So, again, ... its all about how you walk in God according to your believing.
God works according to how you BELIEVE.
Jesus said, "according to your FAITH" = how you BELIEVE, is what is going to happen.
Do you believe you are only a "saved sinner" or do you believe you are a Soldier of the Cross, filled with the Light of God and the power of God's word?
Do you SEE YOURSELF as a sinner who will on occasion need to repent and confess AGAIN?
Well, that is your faith....and that is what you GET.
Saint, you get what you believe, because you ARE what you believe.
"as you thinketh in your HEART", you will do, and you will become.
"i can't be righteous, im just a saved sinner".
Ok, and you will keep on sinning, Mr or MRS i believe im just a "sinner".

Here is the reality.
If you are born aging you have God,Christ, and the Holy Spirit, in you.....or you are not Born again.
Can God give supernatural extras, such as Gifts of the Spirit, ....>YES, but only because you already have the SPIRIT IN YOU.

If God calls you to be , a teacher, a pastor, an evangelist....., any of these specific calls then YES< God is going to do a work that is an "enabling" of power for that office.... You can call this an anointing, or an enabling, as its a supernatural CALL and empowering for the JOB you are called to do.

I cannot this moment remember exactly how worded, or where, in Scripture,
but seems like somewhere (one or more places?) ....
it is written only of a few people (few disciples) - (observers say) SEE THEM! THEY HAVE BEEN WITH GOD (or WITH JESUS) .....

The only place I have specifically seen this Scripture fulfilled in our lifetimes,
or read , heard, or seen this happening in our lifetime,
is the groups of believers, persecuted ones, in China.

Joseph, have you been to China or any other third world country for that matter?

So sorry, American also has third world conditions as well, doesn't it?

Oh, I sometimes fell like I am being persecuted on this forum occasionally by the likes of you.

Hi charity,
the very first part of your opening statement, tells the tail,
In whom ye also trusted,
after that ye heard the word of truth
How can one trust in the Holy Spirit who have not been taught by him?

1 Corinthians 2:9 "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
1 Corinthians 2:10 "But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God."
1 Corinthians 2:11 "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God."
1 Corinthians 2:12 "Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."
1 Corinthians 2:13 "Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual."
1 Corinthians 2:14 "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
1 Corinthians 2:15 "But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man."
1 Corinthians 2:16 "For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ."

one will know the "Presence of the Holy Spirit". their FRUIT is the proof.

Hi there
I have only read the OP but will have to go back and read the others after I post.

I don't disagree with what you have said , and I understand where you are...in believing that the gift have ceased . Some believe in the ceasing, others believe and have experience that the Holy Spirit is still very active in the Body Of Christ.
So you will always find 'some say this', and "some say that".
Depending where we stand on it.

But I will just have to say that that YES, the Holy Spirit opens our eyes to see and understand the truth or we wouldn't be saved.
But there is also the Holy Ghost coming UPON people at certain times for ministry and also the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

But...I think we have- 'been here before'... :)

Every blessing...Helen

Thank you all for your input.

I believe that God, in Christ Jesus our risen Lord, equips us according to our needs, and according to the work we may be called upon to perform in His Name.

Every believer has the new nature through which the Holy Spirit works within us, and through us, by God's grace.

We are told to let the Word of God dwell in us richly, for it is the Word of God which is the Holy Spirit's means of ordering our way: of enlightening us; and by which He enables us to discern what is of God, and what is not. It is also the means by which He blesses us: and reveals the things that are ours in Christ Jesus ; for us to rejoice in, and be faithful to, by His grace.

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
