What does Our Savior consider Idolatry:

If I may share another perspective. Maybe it will help someone. It begins with truth. Sometimes truth is the hardest thing to give when truth is what sets free. Sometimes it is the lie that holds us captive to idols we just can't bear to part with. An example: to three young boys, their father is their idol. For them, their Father is set on a pedestal of high expectation. He is a Christian man. Head of the home and leader and the only example they have, but still, he is a man and a dangerous thing is looking toward any man as being perfect in the flesh. One of the boys catches his father in an adulterous affair. Catches him in the act of it. The father denies the truth when it comes out. For more than a decade the entire family shuns the one son considering the son a liar when he is actually the only one in the family willing to stare into the truth. When the son becomes a man, he is an alcoholic, a thief, a homeless wanderer of the streets; consumed with anger and bitterness. The family rally's around their son in support, pleading for his wellness and sobriety. Yet, when the son brings up the affair referring to his father as a hypocrite...the truth is the one thing that is rejected. The father is willing to take the truth to his grave, even if the truth could save his sons life. One spoken sentence could set multiple people free: "I did it." The confession of a lie could break light into a hopeless situation and then God could go to work and heal the damage.

What does this have to do with idols?

The boys idol is his father. A mere man that has failed miserably. Like we all do. When that idol is exposed for what it truly is; the boy has no where else to look. His fathers image is destroyed. All Christians becomes hypocrites in the boys eyes. Where does he turn then?

The father's idol is himself. A narcissist that is willing to destroy his entire family to maintain his perfect "Christian" image. A narcissist that had no one to look toward growing up other than self, therefore becoming his own idol.

The Pharisees had father Abraham. They missed God in the flesh.

Some have Peter. But Peter failed three times. Probably more.

People and our expectations can be idols. When the one we should look toward and put our trust in, is God.

Just a thought...

Loved the story, Great Analogy!
What I am about to express, is not to dishonor my Dad, but truth is truth. I wasn't so lucky to have a dad to look up to, He was a sober and strict man, taught me many things about responsibility! This is not a feel sorry for me statement, OK! My earthly dad instilled in me extreme fear of Him. Kinda like being confronted with a hungry T-REX, if you can Imagine! So when I had my encounter with Our Savior, I finally had a Dad to Idolize, A Father to Worship, one that truly cared for me, one who said that I could do all things through Him. A Love that never fails, one that never turns His Face away from us, unless we do things that are contrary to His Will!! So I started this thread to try to consider what God and Savior would consider what is Unacceptable in their Sight! God gave His chosen People Festivals, they are called the Feasts of LORD, not the Feasts of the Jews, these are Acceptable in the Sight of God and Savior, He, They Established them. Today we as believers keep Holi-day that are not from God, they are Traditions of Men, steeped in Pagan Rituals, these are the very same things that got the children of Israel Exiled from the Land. God turned His Back on them, because they were doing these very same things, they were mixing beliefs, and they are contrary to His Will. I fear God and Savior, not like I did my earthly dad, but with Reverent Fear, I do not want to displease Him, Them, by following after deity forms of worship!
Passover- Our Savior was slain at the same hour that the National Passover Lamb was Sacrificed!
He was laid in the Tomb about the same time that the Passover Lamb was placed in the Oven, for the Passover Meal!
Seven Days of Unleavened Bread, Leaven a symbol of Sin, He was sinless!
Remember the verse when Our Savior gave up the Spirit! the Earth Quaked, the Rocks Rent, and the Graves were Opened! And when He arose they Arose. During the seven days of unleavened there will be a weekly Sabbath, the day after the Sabbath is called First Fruits.
First Fruits- He was Risen on the day of First Fruits- He was the First Resurrection, and then those that Arose after Him, they were seen in the City by Many.
Pentecost- Count seven Sabbaths from the Sabbath that occurred during the days of unleavened Bread, add one Day and you Have the number of days that = 50, Pentecost in Greek means 50, Shavot in Hebrew means Weeks, Feast of Weeks!
This is a Summery of the Spring Feast, Which Paul says are a Shadow of things to come.
Our Savior gave the Pharisees, ONE sign, only One!! the sign of Jonah, that He would be THREE Days and THREE Nights, in the belly of the Earth.
Now we observe, good Friday, the Day that Dagon the Assyrian, and Philistine fish god of fertility was worshiped, this is why people ate fish on Friday, Then we observe Easter [Ishtar] the bare breasted goddess of fertility Sunday, who turned a bird into a egg laying rabbit to prove her divinity, and the eggs of Easter were dyed in the blood of three month old Infants, and we eat Ham on Easter [Ishtar] Sunday because Tammuz the reincarnated sun god, Nimrod! who was killed at the age of 40 by a wild Boar, and the worshipers of Tammuz would morn for 40 days, and deny themselves a pleasure in this life each day, for Tammuz in his after life, I think it is called Lent which leads up to good Friday and Ishtar Sunday!! For the Traditions of Men Make the Word Of God to No Effect, I also Guarantee Our Savior was not born on Dec 25th, like all other gods were. Our Savior was born on the First High Sabbath of the Feast of Tabernacles, This is the Last Fall Feast described in Leviticus 23!

These are Sacred Traditions that were handed down through the hundreds of years, from the early Church! So we as believers, have just Inherited them, Not rely knowing how the started, or what they have Hidden within them!!!
Now consider these Scriptures! Jeremiah 16:18-21
18- And I will repay double for their Iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My Land; with the carcasses of their detestable and Abominable idols
19- O Lord My strength and my fortress, My refuge in the Day of Affliction, The Gentile's shall come to You From the Ends of the Earth and SAY, "Surely our Father have Inherited Lies, Worthlessness and Unprofitable things"
20- Will a man make gods for himself, Which are not gods?
21- Therefore behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know My Hand and My Might; And they shall know that My Name is ?
This is end time Prophesy, The gentiles are coming from the ends of the Earth. What we have Inherited, we had no control over, but we can turn from them, and all we can do is Repent!

Amen.
(Repent = Turn to God, away from sin, away from trinkets, away from all the idols, away from idolatry)
