  • Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
In another thread, using this same verse, the discussion was about the trees of righteousness...which are symbolic for us, His followers. Here I wanted to understand who Zion is symbolic of and...for whom Zion mourns?

Your thoughts?

Isaiah 40:1-2 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD's hand double for all her sins.

The Isaiah quote shows us who Zion mourns for....Jerusalem. Who is the spiritual Zion and Jerusalem for this speaks of people, not locations?

  • 1 Chronicles 21:16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

Joel 1:13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.

Revelation 11:3 And I will give power unto My two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

From those verses we see that sackcloth, (mourning clothes) are the apparel of the witnesses. They are "David and the elders of Israel," or Jesus and the elect. They are Zion mourning for Jerusalem....God's children. They are the ministers and priests [Revelation 20:6] that "lie all night in sackcloth," meaning they are in mourning throughout the darkness of Satan's tribulation. That "night," five months of the presence of darkness, is when the offering is witheld from "the house of God."

  • Amos 8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Daniel 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.
As the witnesses prophesy, which I believe is to teach as the Spirit teaches them, they mourn for their brethren....Zion mourns for Jerusalem. Why? Because they don't hear the Words of the Lord. Because Satan is "standing where it ought not," [Mark 13:14] and many of God's children won't know. They won't know they are giving the "oblation and sacrifice" to him instead of our Savior.
