Ezekiel Forty One:1-26 The Inner Temple

Ezekiel Forty One
King James Bible Par ▾
The Inner Temple

1Afterward he brought me to the temple, and measured the posts, six cubits broad on the one side, and six cubits broad on the other side, which was the breadth of the tabernacle. 2And the breadth of the door was ten cubits; and the sides of the door were five cubits on the one side, and five cubits on the other side: and he measured the length thereof, forty cubits: and the breadth, twenty cubits. 3Then went he inward, and measured the post of the door, two cubits; and the door, six cubits; and the breadth of the door, seven cubits. 4So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place.

5After he measured the wall of the house, six cubits; and the breadth of every side chamber, four cubits, round about the house on every side. 6And the side chambers were three, one over another, and thirty in order; and they entered into the wall which was of the house for the side chambers round about, that they might have hold, but they had not hold in the wall of the house. 7And there was an enlarging, and a winding about still upward to the side chambers: for the winding about of the house went still upward round about the house: therefore the breadth of the house was still upward, and so increased from the lowest chamber to the highest by the midst. 8I saw also the height of the house round about: the foundations of the side chambers were a full reed of six great cubits. 9The thickness of the wall, which was for the side chamber without, was five cubits: and that which was left was the place of the side chambers that were within. 10And between the chambers was the wideness of twenty cubits round about the house on every side. 11And the doors of the side chambers were toward the place that was left, one door toward the north, and another door toward the south: and the breadth of the place that was left was five cubits round about.

12Now the building that was before the separate place at the end toward the west was seventy cubits broad; and the wall of the building was five cubits thick round about, and the length thereof ninety cubits.

13So he measured the house, an hundred cubits long; and the separate place, and the building, with the walls thereof, an hundred cubits long; 14Also the breadth of the face of the house, and of the separate place toward the east, an hundred cubits.

15And he measured the length of the building over against the separate place which was behind it, and the galleries thereof on the one side and on the other side, an hundred cubits, with the inner temple, and the porches of the court; 16The door posts, and the narrow windows, and the galleries round about on their three stories, over against the door, cieled with wood round about, and from the ground up to the windows, and the windows were covered; 17To that above the door, even unto the inner house, and without, and by all the wall round about within and without, by measure. 18And it was made with cherubims and palm trees, so that a palm tree was between a cherub and a cherub; and every cherub had two faces; 19So that the face of a man was toward the palm tree on the one side, and the face of a young lion toward the palm tree on the other side: it was made through all the house round about. 20From the ground unto above the door were cherubims and palm trees made, and on the wall of the temple.

21The posts of the temple were squared, and the face of the sanctuary; the appearance of the one as the appearance of the other. 22The altar of wood was three cubits high, and the length thereof two cubits; and the corners thereof, and the length thereof, and the walls thereof, were of wood: and he said unto me, This is the table that is before the LORD. 23And the temple and the sanctuary had two doors. 24And the doors had two leaves apiece, two turning leaves; two leaves for the one door, and two leaves for the other door. 25And there were made on them, on the doors of the temple, cherubims and palm trees, like as were made upon the walls; and there were thick planks upon the face of the porch without. 26And there were narrow windows and palm trees on the one side and on the other side, on the sides of the porch, and upon the side chambers of the house, and thick planks.

When I think of the inner temple of our soul, with what measures of virtue and knowledge it is constructed my mind suffers vertigo... if anyone is able to interpret what has been quoted above when it is applied to our soul, the true temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16, John 4:21-24), let him do so. I'm not ashamed to confess my ignorance.

The measurements for the temple described are precise and so are the measurements for the new man of each of us. Whether or not some man is able to precisely convert the written numbers such as 6, 10, 5, 40, etc, of Ezekiel into something definite that applies to each one of us is another matter. I cannot do that. God can!

We see the same kinds of types and shadows with regard to how to move [chapter 10] and how to rest [chapter 2] in the book of Numbers. Everything is in the exact order prescribed by God. It was then also as it is now as per the verses you cited and others. People can study these things for the lifetime of a man and never get it or understand it although they may certainly obtain answers and present them. How accurate will they be? God knows!

If we have the right Leader and follow always carefully and ask for help whenever needed, we, the new man of each of us, may not only be precisely described but actually precisely prepared and ordered. This is the message God sent through Moses when Numbers was written and through Ezekiel with regard to descriptions written in the book of his name. Moses, Ezekiel, Matthew, John, Paul and others wrote down some of the details, following inspiration from the Master Architect similar perhaps to a blueprint, but without someone [an Interpreter?] qualified to read them with understanding all of the numbers and ideas and parts will remain unknown or misunderstood. A good contractor [Interpreter?] will put it all together exactly.

We can relate this to the whole Body of Christ or simply to our own one part [our new man] of the Body of Christ which we are, or are to be. Then remember this:

"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26

Is not the Comforter, the Holy Ghost, also the Interpreter?

"But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God." I Cor 14:28

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: ...a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;" Ecc 3:1,7

When it is time then we will be called on to do our part, but we need to be ready and paying attention!

The body of Christ as a whole is comparable to the dimensions of the Jewish temples, including the tabernacle in the wilderness. The largest area (the Outer Court) was reserved for those farthest away from God. The Inner Court was the second largest area, and reserved for priests only. The Holiest Place was reserved for the High Priest alone. These three temple areas correspond to three classes of believers; those who who are His, but remain more distant from Him than they should; those who walk with Him in priesthood, yet do not dwell in His very Presence on a more continual basis; and then the rare few who do, and are so consecrated unto Him that they have been cleansed of even the slightest sins or blemishes.

In Revelations, we can see how these three will groups will fair in the end-times. In Revelation 11:2, the outer court will be trampled under foot, which will be the price for not walking close enough to God to ensure their earthly safety, by following His leading closely enough to remain protected. Those of the Inner Court will likely be those enduring through the great persecutions of the end-times and performing great service unto God, yet some will fall to wash them white (Daniel 11:35). Those who correspond to the Holiest Place will live on to become the pure and holy Bride of Christ, ready and waiting for Him when He returns, having neither spot nor blemish (Revelation 19:7-8; Ephesians 5:27).

This ‘outer court’ was reserved for those farthest away from God ...curious where ‘burned without the camp’, and that he might sanctify the people with his own blood suffered without the gate, so let us go unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach... couldn’t be that he might sanctify those farthest away from God with his own blood suffered the outer court?
Hebrews 13:11-13 For the bodies of those beasts, whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest for sin, are burned without the camp. [12] Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. [13] Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach.

Hey, sister!

This passage is more addressing joining him outside the camp as living sacrifices, i.e. in the crucifixion of our flesh, and especially in the midst of persecution. This is why "bearing His reproach" is referenced in v.13.
