On another forum someone asked if they could be a prophet while attending college or their job. I found the question interesting, especially when considering what today's prophet would be. Exactly what is a prophet? What are they called to do for it is our Father that calls them?
There is a difference in prophets that must be noted for Jesus tells us....
His truths were told before His Advent when the Father spoke through the prophets. "The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun." [Ecc.1:9]
The prophets that foretold, prophesied the Word of the Lord, are written. There will be no "new thing!" Jesus said, "But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things." [Mark 13:23] So today's prophets aren't to foretell new things but they are....
It is revealed to the apostles and prophets...the teachers aren't mentioned as receiving revelation. Biblical prophets foretold events, as revealed by God and...those things were all written. Today's prophets are taught by the Holy Spirit and He reveals the deeper meaning of His written Word. A "teacher" teaches what is written, the "letter," or "milk" of the Word. A "prophet" delves deeper and shares the spiritual meaning, the "meat," of the written word as revealed to them by the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
Ephesians 4:11-12 And He gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
