Genesis 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

The "dry land" is called earth and dry land is also....dust and dust is man!

2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Then came Eve. And then...enter the serpent who beguiled Adam and Eve. His punishment....

3:14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

And so he does. Dust, dry earth, is/are people. Satan's goal...to flood the earth/people with his deception, (Satan's flood of lies) and they will soak it up.....

Revelation 12:16 And the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.

What of Adam's punishment?

Genesis 3:17-18 And unto Adam He said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

The ground/earth/people are "cursed for thy sake." As Satan eats "dust all his life," so does Adam. This, to me, means both Satan and his followers and Adam and the family of the Lord, are in a battle for the "dry ground." Why would bringing people to the Father have "sorrow" associated with it? Because of the "thorns and thistles!" Who are they?

Genesis 4:13-15 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. Behold, Thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from Thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

That is fascinating! Cain is driven from "Thy face," the face of the Lord, as well as the "face of the earth "and goes "in the earth." Into people. A question that raises is....how can he be "hid from" the Lord? Is Thy face and the face of the earth the same thing? Does it mean he, his true identity, is hidden from people?

There we see who the thorns and thistles are...or who they're from. Jesus further explains....

Matthew 13:36-40 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and his disciples came unto him, saying, Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field. He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man; The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.

The thorns and thistles in the field (the world) that are in the earth are the tares. Tares are "false grain" or weeds/thorns/thistles. What is interesting about tares is that they look just like wheat until they become mature. Then we know them by their fruit. The angels gather and burn them so they are no longer thorns in our side....

Ezekiel 28:24 And there shall be no more a pricking brier unto the house of Israel, nor any grieving thorn of all that are round about them, that despised them; and they shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

But, until that time they spread their spiritual deception....

Hosea 10:8 The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

All who share the Word of the Lord will experience the pricking of tares....even, especially, the apostles of the Lord.

2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
