John 16:7-8 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send Him unto you. And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

16:12-15 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Comforter #3875 parakletos: an intercessor, consoler: - advocate, comforter

Holy Ghost/Spirit #4151 pneuma; a current of air, i.e. breath (blast) or a breeze; by ala. a spirit, ie. (human) the rational soul, vital principle, ment, dispositin, etc., or (superhuman) an angel, demon, or (divine) God, Christ's spirit, the Holy Spirit; - ghost, life spirit (-ual)

The Comforter Christ sends is the Holy Spirit and He is the "Spirit of truth" that guides us. But notice that in [16:12-15] a change takes place. First, not to enter into a debate on the Trinity, but, we know...

1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

The Three, Father, Son/Word and Holy Spirit are....One. As the Three are One how can....."He shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. He shall glorify Me."

How does one entity do that? I believe what is being said is....His Holy Spirit is sent into His apostles and prophets. Then, we see the change in [16:12-15]. The Spirit of truth is in His prophets so they are one with Him. They too are the spirit of truth and they comfort with His testimony. Then, where it is written...."he shall not speak of himself"...we understand it is the prophet "not speaking of himself" but rather speaking what "he shall hear," from the Spirit and that glorifies the Lord.

Those the Spirit dwells in are His rod and they comfort...

Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Ezekiel 14:21-23 For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast? Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it. And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD.

1 Corinthians 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

1 Corinthians 14:29,31 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. (31) For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.
