What or who are the Locusts and....when do they/did they arrive?
Revelation 9:1-5 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man.
9:6-9 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.
9:10-12 And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
When Moses confronted Pharoah (a type of Satan) he said......
Exodus 10:4-6 Else, if thou refuse to let My people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast: And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field: And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh.
10:12-15 And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. And the locust went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
10:19 And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt.
The locusts in Satan's army have similar traits to literal locusts....
Those are the stages of the locust...from a worm working underground, gaining strength, destroying from the roots to the full grown locust that swarms and devours all in it's path. Much of the seed we plant....the Word of the Lord, the worms and locusts consume.
So, who are the locusts that are in the sea? Satan's workers in humanity...all in their various stages of development but devouring no matter what stage they are in.

I used to understand this as future but now I see....only part of it, the five months, is future. The development of a locust happens in stages and they have developed through the millennia.
The fifth trump has sounded already for, as shown above, the "fifth angel sounded," and "a star fell from heaven" to release the locusts. Jesus told us....
Joel 2:24-26 And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the vats shall overflow with wine and oil. And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.

The reference to "in those days" is the time of their five months. But, they are here long before that. They have power as they wear crowns, they are men and they have hair as women, which may mean they are oh so gentle and kind and yet...they rip their prey as lions.

And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.
During the five months at the end of this age they "had a king over them" but until that time....they "have no king yet" (see below)! Please consider that in the following verse....the comma is in the wrong place! Instead of..."they have no king, yet go they forth"....it should be...they have no king yet, go they forth! They "go forth" now and have been for a long, long time. However, their time to shine will be the last five months of this age when Satan is cast to earth. We are shown the locusts have no king as well as had a king. There is a difference in time that must be recognized......
Could "bands" be their "breastplates of iron?" Who is iron associated with? Cain and his offspring, the Kenites and....the "IMAGE"!

In [Rev.9:1-5 above] we see that when the fifth trumpet sounded the "air was darkened" and the locust came forth upon the earth. To me, it appears the fifth trump sounded long ago, when Moses stretched his rod over Egypt. Was it a type for the event or...was it the event itself? There are "no such locusts as they" because...what were literal locusts then....are not literal locusts today!

They are in the Red Sea today along with Pharoah and his men/chariots/horses....all are symbolic of Satan and his workers in the sea of humanity....
