Part of it is, what do we mean by fear? Fear of judgment is linked with unbelief, or a state prior to conversion. Reverential fear is linked with faith.

I know what you mean and I think there's that verse about "boldly approaching" iirc, "The Throne." Alright, but that wouldn't be the first time The Bible talks as if there really are two sides to things or even multiple sides. I can't imagine anyone approaching God without fear. Particularly, on Judgment Day! Granted, it is a huge matter of degrees (no pun intended)...

And then, there is all those passages about "works." The whole "good and faithful servant" thing... Trophies in Heaven or not. To actually see God; people would instictively hide their face. For a whole lot of reasons, there's got to be some anxiety there.

No we should not live in fear og God, but we should be in AWE of Him. How can you love or trust someone you fear. Satan dewals his hand with the young, their fathers beat them and so they learn to fear their father, and so when they come to God, the have trouble coming to Him, because they seem Him as they see their father. No , do not fear God, live in awe and wonderment to His Love and Grace and power and majesty, come to Him you would a loving father, ready to give His all for you.

In His Love

I thought this one was worth mentioning, one more time...

"Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and [let] him [be] your fear, and [let] him [be] your dread." Isaiah 8:13 KJV

I never say should anything - if I feared anything I would fear my ego, never God.
Why would I ever fear God.
But, I think Jesus must have said," Fear not, Be not afraid, Do not fear, give me your burdens, my yoke is light", second to ..."the Kingdom of God.."
Mark you Bible how many times Jesus said , .."the Kingdom of God ..", when he came out of the wilderness to begin His Mission.

And in the Kingdom - there's no fear. Right?

And 2 and 2= 4

Heb 4:1

1          Therefore, let us fear lest, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you should seem to have come short of it.

(NAS)

Strong’s 5399  phobeo(fob-eh'-o);

from 5401; to frighten, i.e. (passively) to be alarmed; by analogy, to be in awe of, i.e. revere:

KJV-- be (+sore) afraid, fear (exceedingly), reverence.

I have felt the correcting hand of the Lord and have been thankful later for his Guidance

That produced righteousness in me.

Heb 12:5-10

5          and you have forgotten the exhortation which is addressed to you as sons, "My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by Him;

6          For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives."

7          It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom {his} father does not discipline?

8          But if you are without discipline, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate children and not sons.

9          Furthermore,we had earthly fathers to discipline us, and we respected them; shall we not much rather be subject to the Father of spirits, and live?

10        For they disciplined us for a short time as seemed best to them, but He {disciplines us}for {our} good, that we may share His holiness.

(NAS)

Strong’s 3146 mastigoo (mas-tig-o'-o);

from 3148; to flog (literally or figuratively):

Heb 10:26-31

26        For if we goon sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins,

27        but a certain terrifying expectation of judgment, and the fury of a fire which will consume the adversaries.

28        Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moses dies without mercy on {the testimony of} two or three witnesses.

29        How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?

30        For we know Him who said, "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay." And again, "The Lord will judge His people."

31        It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

(NAS)

Heb 12:25-29

25        See to it that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if those did not escape when they refused him who warned {them} on earth, much less {shall} we {escape} who turn away from Him who {warns} from heaven.

26        And His voice shook the earth then, but now He has promised, saying," Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heaven."

27        And this{expression}  "Yet once more,"denotes the removing of those things which can be shaken, as of created things,in order that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.

28        Therefore,since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe;

29        for our God is a consuming fire.
(NAS)

2124  eulabeia (yoo-lab'-i-ah);

from 2126; properly, caution, i.e. (religiously) reverence(piety); by implication, dread (concretely):

5673  deos (de'-os);

found only in Heb. 12:28: awe, godly fear.

***. This Greek word was not included in the original Strong's Dictionary but is found in other Greek lexicons. Alphabetically it belongs between Strong's number 1189 and 1190.

I feel these scriptures help demonstrate the deference between Fear, reverence and awe

Should we fear God?

Of course:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction." - Proverbs 1:7

-- Sniper, if you are no longer a beginner, then why don't you realize that the true meaning of 'fear' in that statement?

'Fear' means 'reverence' and that reverence should be maintained throughout our walk with Christ.

FEAR DOESNT MEAN REVERENCE TO ME. I HAVE REVERENCE BUT NO FEAR. WHY FEAR SOMEONE WHO LOVES YOU? I LOVE GOD, BUT NOT THROUGH FEAR

Well if it doesn't mean reverence to you, then it really couldn't mean that.

What was I thinking?

I fear God but in the sense that He might discipline me if refuse to turn from sin or follow after Him. I think fear is good. I don't view God as my buddy or my personal genie. So fear of who He is in all of this is a sign of respect for me.

'Fear' means 'reverence' and that reverence should be maintained throughout our walk with Christ. - SO TRUE

I would also add, we worship a loving God and a just God.

A God who is just, will demand justice!!! Fear his justice if you are not "saved"
sad.gif

Now non-believers say "Saved from what?" Saved from what you truly deserve!!!

dont know what "web" you got that from, but if fear means reverence then reverence means fear so the chinese must "fear" the dead. ("the Chinese reverence for the dead"; )
do you FEAR the dead?
