Let's be praying for the people in the pathway of this dangerous hurricane! It should be making landfall on the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast as a Category 3 or 4 hurricane late tonight (Wednesday, August 26).

Years ago, I went though a Cat 3 hurricane, and it can be terrifying, but it was during the day. Going through a major hurricane late at night would be even worse.

@Prayer Warrior I hope you can keep your head down well if it's in your area...

@Prayer Warrior Such experiences can also teach personal and practical dependence on the Lord, moment by moment, right?
Yup, people tend to think more about eternity when they go through disasters. I wasn't a Christian when I went through the Cat 3 storm, but I grew up in hurricane territory, so we took it in stride.

@Prayer Warrior Interesting; so do you think your experience proved at least partly instrumental in your conversion?
Nope, not at all. A few years later, when I was in college, the Lord reached out to me and showed me the love of Jesus, and I knew that I had to have His love. I've never regretted giving Him my life, and I don't see how unbelievers are making through the current problems without God's peace. :)

@Prayer Warrior Peace is a wonderful, Scriptural theme:

I do love Philippians 4.6-7:

"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

John 16.33: "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."

Colossians 1.19-20: "For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven."

When I was a brand-new Christian, I dealt with horrible anxiety about life. One day after reading the Philippians 4 verse, I asked God if He understood anxiety. I didn't know that God understood our emotions, lol. Come to find out, He understands them much better than we do!

There have been many times over the years, even over the last few years, that I have been bombarded with anxiety and fear, but God always sends His peace. The key is to keep our minds stayed on Him, but I'm not always very good at this. I tend to look at the "waves" and feel overwhelmed, esp. since I lost my husband. So, prayers are appreciated!!

Isaiah 16:3--You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

@Prayer Warrior Sorry for your loss; was this recently?

Yes, an excellent verse there in Isaiah.

Thank you. It was 6 1/2 years ago and very unexpected. Because I was a stay-at-home homeschool mom, I didn't have any connections in the business world, so NO ONE was interested in hiring me so that I could provide for my family. BUT GOD gave me the perfect job. It took a couple of years for the door to be opened, and it was extremely difficult in the meantime, but He got us through the difficulties and put us in a very stable situation that's perfect for us! I can testify that HE IS FAITHFUL!

God gave me so many incredible scriptures over the years that have spoken to my heart. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit would give me a chapter and verse. When I looked it up, it was exactly what I needed at the moment. He still does this for me.

PS: @Prayer Warrior Isaiah 25.4 is another good one:

"For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall."
Wow! Great scripture for those facing this hurricane! "A refuge from the storm!"

@Prayer Warrior Well, it applies; although I think the primary meaning is metaphorical.

Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift or firm remain?

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Stedfast and sure while the billows roll,
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
Grounded firm and deep in the Savior's love.

It is safely moored, 'twill the storm withstand,
For 'tis well secured by the Savior's hand;
And the cables passed from His heart to mine,
Can defy the blast, through strength divine.

It will firmly hold in the straits of fear,
When the breakers have told the reef is near;
Though the tempest rave and the wild winds blow,
Not an angry wave shall our bark o'erflow.

It will surely hold in the floods of death,
When the waters cold chill our latest breath;
On the rising tide it can never fail,
While our hopes abide within the veil.

I have never heard this hymn.

Here's a similar song. Incredible story behind the song.
