Ok, so some poor sap on a remote island who has never heard of Jesus will be tortured for eternity in Hell.
So that's what bothers you? Do you believe that God is unfair and cannot reach someone on a remote island so they will have an excuse for failing to believe in Jesus?

Romans 1:18 - For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

I've heard too many testimonies from missionaries who have visited remote parts of the world and explained how the people they shared the gospel with there not only came to believe the gospel, but also told them they were waiting for someone to come and share this good news to them. Such people have responded to the light they had and received more light, even the light of the glorious gospel of Christ. :)

So God has revealed Himself in the light of creation and also in our conscience. In Romans 2:14-15 the apostle Paul writes, "For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which show the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another."

God is not so small that He is limited to only reaching people in more populated regions of the earth.

So North Koreans that die without ever having heard the word of Jesus can still be saved AFTER death?

It's too late after death. Hebrews 9:27 - And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.

Ok, so a person who has never heard of Jesus dies and then what happens?
Is such a person with or without excuse according to scripture? Is it impossible for God to reach someone in North Korea with the gospel?

What do you mean by "hell would be the alternative"
well, if the kingdom of heaven is either beside us or within us right now, then it follows that we might be in Gehenna right now, too? "Hell" as we understand it i am not finding anyway--a place that others maybe goto after death?

Thanks in advance.
People who reject Jesus although they know in their heart that his testimony is true, will not enter the kingdom of heaven. They will go into Hades/hell if they have not received him while they had the chance, here on earth.

Hades comes from Greek mythology, not Jewish.

"Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." Matt 5:6

Not everyone has a Bible or a friendly neighborhood church where a measure of Truth is taught. But... God sees every heart and he fills the ones that really are hungry and thirsty after righteousness. We, in our "advanced" societies with paper Bibles and online Bibles and even online church services have so much yet so many will probably walk down that wide way to destruction anyway. Is God not able to fill the hungry heart?

"But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." Luke 12:48

If our hands are so full, why our our coffers so empty?
