This thread concerns the "cup" Christ asked our Father to pass from Him while praying before His crucifixion. There are many Biblical cups....

1 Corinthians 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.

Jeremiah 51:7 Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

Revelation 14:10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

What was the cup He asked to pass from Him?

John 13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that His hour was come that He should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved His own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end.

John 18:11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which My Father hath given Me, shall I not drink it?

John 12:27 Now is My soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save Me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.

He came to partake of that cup so would that be the same cup, the "this cup," He asked to "pass away" from Him?

Matthew 26:42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if this cup may not pass away from Me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

Mark 14:35-36 And He went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, "Abba, Father, all things are possible unto Thee; take away this cup from Me: nevertheless not what I will, but what Thou wilt."

14:37-38, 41 And He cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, "Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour? Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak." (41) And He cometh the third time, and saith unto them, "Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

The cup He asks to pass from Him and the hour He speaks of are connected....if not the same. Is that hour the hour when He would be crucified or....is it the hour of temptation?

Luke 22:52-60 Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to Him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves? When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against Me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness. Then took they Him, and led Him, and brought Him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed afar off. And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them. But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with Him. And he denied Him, saying, Woman, I know Him not. And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not. And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with Him: for he is a Galilaean. And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the **** crew.

Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of My patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Darkness, the night, is the one hour, the hour of temptation which I see as all of Satan's rule...his entire time of tribulation/deception/temptation that doesn't end until the end of days. One long hour! Consider, "And the evening and the morning were the first day (day one). [Gen.1:5] The evening and the morning are the day...not the night. Darkness is not of the day. He specifies....

John 11:9-10 Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world. But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

It is as if darkness/night is not considered the other twelve hours in our complete day for it wasn't included in "the first day," but is rather one long hour of darkness. So, where He asks that the hour pass "from Him," that the cup be taken "from Me," what is meant? Who is the "Him" and "Me?" Who is His Body that He wants to keep from the evil hour?

John 17:15, 23 I pray not that Thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that Thou shouldest keep them from the evil. (23) I in them, and thou in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that Thou hast sent Me, and hast loved Them, as Thou hast loved Me.

We, as the body of Christ, I believe are the objects of His request of the Father to allow the cup and hour to pass. We will see the tribulation for we are in the world but we are kept from the evil through belief in Him and knowledge of His Word.
