I'm thinking of taking a break from this sandbox affair. You kids will continue to (not) get along just as well without me, I think.

Sorry to abandon the thread after only 1020 posts.

When I was growing up in mid-20th century America, the ten commandments were the standard of morality for Christians. My Southern Baptist grandmother often asked me to mow her lawn (about an acre). But she would never allow me to do it on Sunday.

Lately, I'm hearing more and more about a doctrine which states that the ten commandments were nailed to the cross and that the Holy Spirit has replaced them. I recently asked my very aged father about this and he said that he'd never even heard of such a thing.

What happened?
I always felt like it was still significant, but it should be taught alongside the teachings of Christ or moving towards the teachings of Christ. The Sermon on the Mount for example pairs well with teaching on the Team Commandments.

Except that the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount show the New Covenant commandment that go much deeper to the source of sin, and are no longer just surface commandments. Jesus was able to make these demands, because He was going to be inside us (from the Day of Pentecost on) to make us born again with the divine nature of God who cannot sin. 1 John 3:9

Then, if the ground she stand on is what saves her...your not sharing the ground that she stands on will mean that you are not saved.

If you are truly content with such a proposition, then I'm not sure that there is much hope for you; especially if @CharismaticLady is correct in her estimation of what salvation is..

Thanks but no thanks. O goodness, no thanks!!!!

Huge respect, GE. @BarnyFife, this shows the power of the Holy Spirit inside us to make us bold. There will be no cowards in heaven. They do not have the Holy Spirit.

Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

So many people, especially carnal men it seems, find it impossible to say they are sorry. But we have power after the Holy Spirit comes upon us.

Revelation 4:29-31
29 Now, Lord, look on their threats, and grant to Your servants that with all boldness they may speak Your word, 30 by stretching out Your hand to heal, and that signs and wonders may be done through the name of Your holy Servant Jesus.”

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they were assembled together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the word of God with boldness.

Look at the difference the Spirit made in Peter who had been so cowardly, he denied Christ three times! But on the Day of Pentecost he gave a sermon after receiving the revelation from the Spirit that part of the prophecy in Joel 2 was coming to pass in their midst.

But the FIRST thing that happens that shows the evidence of being baptized in the Holy Spirit is power over sin. That is what Jesus came to do. Not to save us from punishment, but from the need for punishment - SIN. The Spirit makes us dead to sin, Romans 6:1-2, and alive in Christ's power. We are no longer in the old carnal nature called the flesh, but in the Spirit where we are no longer a slave to sin, but powerful to live in righteousness. Romans 8:9. Otherwise, those who are still carnal, and just follow a set of rules, find it hard to keep like the person struggling under the law in Romans 7:14-23. WE MUST BE BORN AGAIN! The eternal laws of God to Love God with all your heart, mind and body, and love your neighbor as yourself, is part of the divine nature that the Spirit within us leads us into partaking.

2 Peter 1:2-4 Grace is divine POWER

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (Free from SIN).

Amen, only the Holy Spirit can make us bold in Christ! We are not ashamed. And yes, how easy, if not walking and living in The Spirit, it is to "deny" Him. We need to be being filled every day with His Spirit...and although you and I do not agree on all things my sister, there is way more that we DO agree on than not :)

"Not to save us from punishment, but from the need for punishment - SIN."
And the
only thing God cannot, will not abide is...sin. Christ took the punishment yes...and repentance on our part needs to become complete, should be our desire! I believe we will still stumble in areas as we grow and when we do... He is ever our advocate!

"My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin.
But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father--Jesus Christ, the Righteous One."
1 John 2:1

God does not change, but His covenants do... :)

That would be very clever if I were selling anything.

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (James 1:27)
It seems that what James taught was from Hell itself, according to you.

Yes, because anyone can look around and plainly see that the problem with the church today is legalism--too many people trying too hard to be too good. Give me a break.

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

Romans 11
19Thou wilt say then, The branches were broken off, that I might be grafted in. 20Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear: 21For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee. 22Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
When I see people ruined by an attack of legalism, I'll get angry. Still waiting for that. How many people have you seen rescued from that, btw?

———————————————————————————————————-

How many people have I rescued from Legalism? I’ll find out when I get to Heaven at the Bema Seat where Rewards will be passed out.I already know of a few from other Forums I have been on.....maybe even YOU will come around some day....

You are no different than any other Modern- Day Judaizer.....you are Blind as you go about Adding to Paul’s Gospel Of Grace...

It’s a great thing to “ run around and do good”........ in fact, it is the reason God created us —- “ to do good works and carry the burdens of others” ......all I am saying is it does not save , nor does it “ keep” one Saved —— Faith in the Shed Blood Plus Nothing accomplishes “ That”. Good Works flow naturally from one who is Saved...don’t put the Cart before the horse is what I maintain....
James can describe “ Religion” all he wants.....he does NOT say religion gets one to Heaven....

Btw......you “ are” selling something.....Paul described it as a “Perverted Gospel” and you are “ Accursed “ ( damned by God) if you teach it ......I hope Newbies will read Galatians where all of this is clearly pointed out.....Don’t live out your Christian Walk “ Fallen From Grace”. At the very least, read Galatians 5 and discover what it means .....it’s probably the-opposite of what you have been taught....

MATT.7 [22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?[23] And then will I profess unto them, I NEVER KNEW YOU: DEPART FROM ME, YE THAT WORK INIQUITY.

So who are these people God does not know? Its they who practice lawlessness. Those who made Gods law void.

JEREMIAH 16 [19] O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, THE GENTILES SHALL COME UNTO THEE FROM THE ENDS OF THE EARTH, AND SHALL SAY, SURELY OUR FATHERS HAVE INHERITED LIES, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

Jer.16 is a “Day of the Lord” scripture as is Matt.7. The “many” Gentiles have inherited lies. No profit! Why no profit?

ISAIAH 48 [17] Thus saith THE LORD, THY REDEEMER, the Holy One of Israel; I AM THE LORD THY GOD WHICH TEACHETH THEE TO PROFIT, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.[18] O THAT THOU HADST HEARKENED TO MY COMMANDMENTS! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:

Whose your Redeemer? Profit! The 10 commandments. Most gentiles ignore Gods 4th commandment.

1JOHN2 [3] AND HEREBY WE DO KNOW THAT WE KNOW HIM, IF WE KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS.[4] He that saith, i know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.[5] But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

We are not under the law (Romans 6:14) are dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and are delivered from the law (Romans 7:6) as believers in Christ.

I would contend that this is as concerning condemnation...

For it is clear from other scripture that as believers, we are still governed by the law (Hebrews 8:8-10, Hebrews 10:16, Romans 8:7, Romans 8:4, 1 John 5:3, 2 John 1:6; Romans 5:5).

More specifically, we are governed by the Holy Spirit, the fruit of which there is no law against (Galatians 5:22-23).

It is not that we look to a set of do's and don'ts therefore (crossing our t's and dotting our i's) in order to keep salvation.

Rather, we have received the Holy Spirit by faith (Galatians 3:14) and the love of the Lord through the Spirit (Romans 5:5).

And, this love is practical in nature (1 John 3:17-18). It is also the fulfilling of the righteousness of the law within us (Romans 13:8-10, Galatians 5:14, 1 John 5:3, 2 John 1:6, Romans 8:4).

But it is also a righteousness that is apart from the law (Romans 3:21), being attested to by the law and the prophets.

Thanks! Jesus will know I did a little bit of Good when I was blessed enough to have His Spirit work through me.....Other times, when I was weak and gave it to my Old Adamic Nature and foolishly committed sins , well, I got a HUMONGOUS break as far as that was concerned....Simply Because I did “ God’s Will”, God somehow “ Forgot all of my Sins” ......He “ cast them into the deepest depths of the ocean!” What was the “Will Of God” that I fulfilled? Simple. I “ BELIEVED in the One that He sent....” For my simple Trust in the Gospel Of 1Cor15:1-4 Plus NOTHING !!!.....I gave Jesus the ONLY thing that I had to offer ( my many sins) and in turn He gave me His Righteousness......
Just like many of the Self-Righteous religionists we see here daily, Satan will get on the stand and accuse me of many terrible sins. What will God’s response be when Satan accuses me? “ What Sins”, God will respond , “ It seems that I do not remember them”......Seems like Grace actually trumped my Sins.....Grace sure is Unfair, isn't it ? Some of you had better learn to accept that.....God Bless....
