After ScottA told me why he believed in God I am curious if anyone else would like to share why they believe. I will not post anything in the thread challenging your reasons.
I believe because I heard the word of God out of the book of Matthew in the king James bible.

'So then faith cometh by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God.'

(Rom 10:17)

Hello @Vince,

I heard 'The Gospel (or 'good news') of Christ' preached, and believed it. The gospel of Christ is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes (Romans 1:16).

The entrance of God's Word brings light, and light reveals our state before God: we recognise our sinful state, and our need of a Saviour; it also reveals the means whereby our sins may be forgiven, by showing us the Lord Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son: Who took our sin upon Himself, and paid the penalty of sin, by dying in our place; thereby delivering us from the power of death; that we may receive the gift of God of eternal life through faith in the all-sufficiency of His sacrifice for sin.

* Why do I believe?
Because His Word entered and began a work in me, to the saving of my soul.
His work, not mine. :) I am God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus ... (Ephesians 2:10)

Praise His Holy Name!

Thank you.
In Christ Jesus
Chris

The reason is because it's crystal clear solid factual reality after being born again, it just hit me with a bang ! that's it ! it all came together, now that I understand it all and everything falls into place.
But before that I had only faith in the belief of such but I did not know, but now I do know the truth and such is a fact.
I am not religious anymore, or look to the churches anymore say, for I do not need them as I have Christ Jesus and that's the whole point, sadly the Christian religions have turned away from Christ Jesus and are just as it is with any religion of mans works.

Hello Vince,
I can't remember a time when I didn't believe in God.
He was always there... Sometimes I didnt listen to Him, sometimes I argued with Him,..for along time I told Him to leave me be and ignored Him...
And once I got very very mad at Him and turned my back on Him....

But in the depths of the pit I dug for myself, knowing I was lost, I called out to Him with tears and sorrow...
And in His mercy He came and picked me up, bound up my wounds and carried me home...

And now my life is HIS, I am HIS bondservant to use as HE wills, and by HIS grace, i will follow wherever HE leads...

You too! Are welcome to come to the wedding feast of the Lamb of God!

Peace be with you!

Christ IS risen!
Alleluia!

We believe what God has revealed who can neither deceive or be deceived!
God thru Christ thru Peter thru the apostles thru their successors lead by the Holy Spirit!

Teaching authority of the Apostles and their successors in the church founded in the one true founded by Jesus Christ!

Jesus Christ is the head of the church, (eph 5:23) the body of Christ,
(col 1:18) the new and eternal covenant, (pre-figured Jer 31:31) (Heb 8:8) new covenant replaces the Mosaic covenant, (Heb 8:13) Christ replaces David as king, (Lk 1:32-33) Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and men, (1 Tim 2:5 & Heb 12:24) but a mediator remains on earth mediating between God and His people, but Christ ascended to heaven, (acts 1) before He did He founded His church, on Peter, and the apostles, and their successors!
Mt 16:18 Mt 28:19 Acts 1:17 acts 8:31 & 35 Lk 10:16 Jn 8:32 Jn 13:20 Jn 16:13
Jn 20:21-22 eph 2:20

We must be taught!

Matt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Lk 1:4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

Acts 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

————————-
————————-

The obedience of faith!

Rom 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name.

'The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ'

Hello there,

I have read what others have written with interest. As for me, I just heard the Word of God concerning His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, and believed it. I knew that I was a sinner, and needed a Saviour, and saw that God in His infinite love and grace had given His only Son to save me.

The journey since has stripped me bare, and exposed everything I held dear, taken away every prop, and every ground of confidence in the flesh, both my own and others. Taken away all forms of religious observance, too. Until what I am left with is Him alone. He only is my ground of confidence, He alone is faithful and true. He alone can rescue and save, He alone can keep, and save to the uttermost. God is indeed my refuge, and truly - underneath are His everlasting arms.

Praise His Holy Name!

In Christ Jesus
Chris

Hello @theefaith,

I trust Him to save me to the uttermost if that is what you mean. :)

Can you please point me to the Scriptures that prompted your question, so that I can understand your meaning?

Thank you

I was not aware of a personal Lord and Savior but a new and eternal covenant, with the outward sign of baptism?

“not me and Jesus”

eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, (Catholic) one baptism. (Christian)

1 Corinthians 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

Titus 1:4 To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

Jude 1:3
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Jn 10:16
and there shall be onefold, and one shepherd.

look forward to you questions or insights

Hello @theefaith,

I was baptised in water shortly after my eyes were opened to my need of a Saviour: and of God's provision of salvation through faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ; Who paid the penalty for my sin in His own body, by dying in my place, rising again to life again and ascending to the Father's right hand, thereby securing salvation and eternal life to all who place their trust in Him. Baptism was expected of me, and I had no reason to believe that it was not a necessity.

I now know, as a result of Bible study, that water baptism is not a requisite: for the believer is now sealed on believing, by the Holy Spirit of promise, and is reckoned by God to have died with Christ, been buried with Christ, quickened with Christ, raised and ascended with Christ to God's right hand. The believer now, lives looking for Christ's appearing. For, when He Who is our life appears in glory we too will appear with Him there. This is all the operation of the Holy Spirit, in which the flesh has no part.

Please, do not derail the subject of this thread, by taking up for discussion anything that I have said. If you would like to discuss anything at all, please start a new thread. :)

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Honestly, the true reason is, I like believing. I am in love with God. I have a complicated relationship with my church, but, in the end, I believe the doctrine they teach. I love prayer. I love how God is transforming me into a citizen of Heaven. At this point in my life, I recognize the futility of ignoring God. Prayer is the path to unity with Christ:

The Dark Night of the Soul
St John Of the Cross

On a dark night,
Kindled in love with yearnings–oh, happy chance!–
I went forth without being observed,
My house being now at rest.

In darkness and secure,
By the secret ladder, disguised–oh, happy chance!–
In darkness and in concealment,
My house being now at rest.

In the happy night,
In secret, when none saw me,
Nor I beheld aught,
Without light or guide, save that which burned in my
heart.

This light guided me
More surely than the light of noonday
To the place where he (well I knew who!) was awaiting me–
A place where none appeared.

Oh, night that guided me,
Oh, night more lovely than the dawn,
Oh, night that joined Beloved with lover,
Lover transformed in the Beloved!

Upon my flowery breast,
Kept wholly for himself alone,
There he stayed sleeping, and I caressed him,
And the fanning of the cedars made a breeze.

The breeze blew from the turret
As I parted his locks;
With his gentle hand he wounded my neck
And caused all my senses to be suspended.

I remained, lost in oblivion;
My face I reclined on the Beloved.
All ceased and I abandoned myself,
Leaving my cares forgotten among the lilies.
