If someone asks you because they believe the gifts have ceased, wouldn't you want to stand up for the Word of God that it is TRUE? Especially to those of little faith who mock the Word of God.
I'm going to do that with the Word of God, not with personal annecdotes. If you don't believe God, why would you believe me? And why would I consider my testimony more meaningful, more effective than God's?

If you don't accept spiritual giftedness based on your understanding of the Bible, why would you believe I have spiritual gifts just because I say so?

I'm not saying there can't be a time or place, just the same, I'll stick with what I said, what gifts I may or may not have are God's business, not mine. I'm simply to serve trusting Him.

Much love!

If you want to know what I believe just read MacArthur's book Charismatic Chaos. I'm 100% behind his exegesis on the topic.

@Hidden In Him You've got to see this, MacArthur is hysterical!

You are? The blind leading the blind. Let's see. MacArthur on 1 Cor. 14 from memory. I have all his books against the subject.

MacArthur on the plural and singular of how Paul uses the word tongue/tongues.

Singular "tongue." (Pagan or demonic).
Plural "tongues" from God.

2 For he who speaks in a tongue (Pagan or demonic) does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

4 He who speaks in a tongue (Pagan or demonic) edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.

6 But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?

13 Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue (Pagan or demonic) pray that he may interpret.

18 I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;

22 Therefore tongues are for a sign, not to those who believe but to unbelievers; but prophesying is not for unbelievers but for those who believe. 23 Therefore if the whole church comes together in one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those who are uninformed or unbelievers, will they not say that you are out of your mind?

26 How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue (Pagan or demonic), has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification.

27 If anyone speaks in a tongue (Pagan or demonic), let there be two or at the most three, each in turn, and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no interpreter, let him keep silent in church, and let him speak to himself and to God.

39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.

Why are the apostles apostles? They were WITNESSES. I also am a witness that the gifts of the Spirit are real. Otherwise, the Bible is just a nice story. What if the apostles just kept their truth to themselves. Those with the Spirit are bold to tell the truth that God is real, His covenant is real, and His gifts are real.

The question came up about how freely we announce our "spiritual gifts".

Why would we do it?

I mean, if I think I have such and such gift, where is the importance of announcing that to you?

To me, spiritual gifts are God's business, not ours. To me, our gifts are so that we can share God's love through practical help to someone in need with whom we are in contact.

Why would we go beyond the use of our gifts, into a proclamation of what gift(s) I think I have?

Much love!

Come on, Marks. If you're going to join this conversation, please come in at speed, LoL. You honestly think no one was proclaiming they had a spiritual gift during New Testament times? Maybe it was all "hush, hush" or something. I know, only the apostles could whisper if so and so actually had a gift or not, Lol. But the command of the NT was, "DON'T TELL ANYBODY, WHATEVER YOU DO!!" LoL.

Please point me to the place where the Apostles discuss what spiritual gifts they have.

Shall I be bold to speak of Jesus, or of what great spiritual gifts I have?

Much love!

No. After 70 A.D., no one in the church ever uttered anything that was Spirit-inspired ever again. No one has to this day. But thanks for asking, Lol.
Well I receive fully all miracles and signs recorded in Scripture, outside of this people can claim anything. It would be very risky in my opinion to accredit any current miraculous gifts asides salvation, outside of Scripture to the Holy Spirit, because I see blasphemy of the Holy Spirit as accrediting things to God that didn’t come out from Him.
Acts 5:12 KJV
[12] And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch.
The apostles.

Come on, HIH, if we're going to have a conversation . . . Do you honestly think I'm into all this drama?

LoL!

Yes. I'm thinking that if I prayed in a demonic tongue, publicly proclaiming the interpretation would seem to make matters worse, Lol.

he does not use demonic in his commentary as you claim above I have it sitting on my lap opened to 1 cor 14.

if you quote someone the RULES are to link your quote otherwise you are violating the rules of the forum. You are making false claims about his commentary.

You bring on the "drama" LoL when you insinuate that anyone who ever professed to have a spiritual gift was "exalting himself."

You are smarter than to post nonsense like that. What do you expect me to say? "Amen!"

I take threads on this subject seriously.

Definitely not claiming divine writing.

Well I'm not either, and that's what I'm saying. Just because what you post isn't "Holy Writ" doesn't mean it is invalid, and should be dismissed out of hand as untrustworthy. Should not the same be said of the writings of people who lived in the generations after the apostles went on to be with the Lord?

I honestly didn’t think anyone really considered anything I have to say.

I’ll be more careful about what I post moving forward.

Well we're supposed to! Hell, if I thought absolutely no one on the planet was ever going to take what I posted into consideration, what would be the point? I realize most forum members are already set in their doctrines, but who knows what visitors are thinking.

Cheer up, LoL. There's gotta be someone out there getting something out of all this : )
