WHAT IS FUNDAMENTALISM?
You can ask me. I’m a Bob Jones graduate remember?

When I was at Bob Jones the term “fundamentalist” was only just beginning to get traction as a pejorative term. The Protestant fundamentalists at Bob Jones wore the label with pride. It set them apart from the Evangelicals they considered to be sweet, soft and spineless. Those types were called “neo Evangelicals” and went to Wheaton Bible College and thought Billy Graham was great.

In fact the term “fundamentalism” belongs originally to the conservative Protestants.

Ten Traits of Catholic Fundamentalism

Greetings, Illuminator.

I read through the list in the link. For me, I have always kind of associated fundamentalists with being somewhat simple-minded, despite maybe being well meaning. But I get the image of a Bible thumper who is quick to nail anyone who even sounds like they might disagree with points, A, B, C, D, and E.

Just always struck me as a term associated with the narrow-minded. Even if the term were associated with those who champion the Apostles Creed, which I fully do, I would still come away with the impression, "These are the basics of the Christian faith. Must they be the only things people hammer away on 24 hours a day, as if they were looking for heretics on every corner?"

The point is there is a spirit of fundamentalism that emphasizes negative elements at the expense of positive ones. Notice I didn't point fingers, fundies are everywhere. a.k.a. "funnymentalists".

Greetings, Illuminator "These are the basics of the Christian faith. Must they be the only things people hammer away on 24 hours a day, as if they were looking for heretics on every corner?"
Then 5 basics of the Christian faith was a REACTION to liberals and false philosophies. Jesus gave 2 points, not 5. The fundie "whore of babylon" mantra is a religious sickness. Do Catholics do that kind of thing to them?

Then 5 basics of the Christian faith was a REACTION to liberals and false philosophies at the time when communism became popular. Jesus gave 2 basics, not 5. The fundie "whore of babylon" mantra is a religious sickness. Do Catholics do that kind of thing to them? There is no "us v.s. them", that's Matt Slick's false dichotomous thinking. We are all believers.

I can't vouch for David Hunt and Matt Slick, but I do have to say I actually agree with the interpretation that the Vatican is what is referred to in Revelation 17 and 18. But it's not something I thump on. If anything, I don't like talking about it much, because I want the very best for all Christians, whether Catholic or Protestant, and we are not anywhere near the time of the end yet. But truth be known, I think that's the correct interpretation of what will eventually come to pass.

God bless, and I like the term "funnymentalists" LoL.
