I heard this morning that a British MP has nominating Biden - had to smile when I read it !
Also a celebrity reality star has been nominated ( British ). It seems that anyone can be nominated.
Personally if someone has done something amazing it should be so visible that those who Select the prize winner should ‘ choose ‘ people to go forward to be selected.
It seems that anyone can nominate anyone, the two choices I listed prove that, it makes it a bit of farce ! Rita

Ummmmmmm, "nominated" for WHAT?!? There are FIVE CATEGORIES:
  • Nobel Prize in Physics – Awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences
  • Nobel Prize in Chemistry – Awarded by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences
  • Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine – Awarded by the Karolinska Institute
  • Nobel Prize in Literature – Awarded by the Swedish Academy
  • Nobel Prize in Peace – Awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee

... and just because there are idiots in the world, doesn't mean there aren't intelligent people. -- Have you considered the "source"? :)

Well one of them was for the peace prize, have no idea about the Biden one as I stopped taking it seriously once I read the name. I don’t think I said that there were no intelligent people. Did you know Adolf Hitler was nominated one year, it was withdrawn a short while afterwards. I could only find two nominations for Trump, when was the third one ?

Hey Rita,
I think my point was that ANYONE can nominate a person for doing something. For example Obama was Nominated and RECEIVED the Nobel Peace Prize BEFORE HE HAD DONE ANYTHING, -- and he NEVER DID ANYTHING FOR PEACE, -- EVER!

As to Trump, I posted yesterday evening:

Trump lands third Nobel Peace Prize nomination: 'Producing peace in the world in a way in which none of his predecessors did'

... and if you suspect that the Dishonest Media is refusing to report this NEWS, -- you could be CORRECT! :)

With Best Regards,

Thanks - I did a search on the Nobel awards, it only stated two nominations. I guess the more recent one hasn’t been updated. I didn’t really check the news media. I think there are genuine candidates , people who have made such an impact, like Mandela ect. I have looked at some of the winners and just haven’t seen them in the same light. The issue I have with any of the awards is time, yes Trump has made headway in the Middle East, but only time will see if peace is actually achieved. Certainly his endeavours should be rewarded.

Sorry for the delay here. I lost track where this thread was. I finally found it.

Alas, I have to agree with your sentiment and that saddens me. I'm a political Independent and I've generally voted Republican whenever I vote, but I can't, in good conscience, support the Republican Party anymore because of Donald Trump and his apologist supporters. Since the 2016 election, I've developed a rule of thumb whenever I encounter Trump supporters and that is (1) don't listen to their political rhetoric to lambast Democrats, (2) don't listen to them whenever they resort to childish name-calling and derogatory remarks, and (3) don't listen to them whenever they exhibit a holier-than-thou attitude and accuse Democrats of being evil and more morally depraved than Republicans are. I've reminded a few of them of some of the excuses they, and other Republicans, have personally used to defend their support for Trump: "I voted for a president and not a pastor when I voted for Trump," and "I didn't vote for a "theologian-in-chief," and "I didn't vote for Trump because he was a choir boy." As a matter of fact, quite a few Republicans made it perfectly clear that Trump's sinful behavior and lack of character wasn't an issue for them.
I'll be thinking twice in 2022 if Senator Toomey runs again here in Pennsylvania. At first, he stood up to Trump and told the truth. Then something happened. It was as if he felt he had to be Trump's loyal lapdog. Maybe he was afraid of losing Republican votes? Toomey should know he had Democrats vote for him too. Toomey was elected to represent the people of Pennsylvania, not to be a yes-man for Donald Trump. Toomey used to do a radio broadcast before he was elected to office. He talked about fiscal restraint in government. That too seems to have gone out the door. I don't know what, if anything, the Republican Party stands for. They didn't bother to put together a platform this year.

And this is why I don't listen to Republicans anymore whenever they tout out the sanctity of marriage while voicing their objection to same-sex marriage. Trump is married to his mistress and in his third marriage, he's twice divorced, and he's had extramarital affairs with a porn star and a former Playboy model. And that's not to mention him fathering five children with three different women, bragging about watching naked and half-dressed teenage girls backstage at beauty pageants, and proudly bragging about inappropriately grabbing several women between their legs.
The divorce thing started with Reagan. Before that, Americans knew better than to trust someone his own wife couldn't trust. I figure if someone can lie to his wife, he can't be counted on to tell me the truth or even to care about me.
When it's the issue of abortion, this is what gets me about the Trump supporters who go after the Democrats... they've never lifted a finger to publicly oppose abortion themselves other than hide behind their computer screen and post obnoxious comments or derogatory remarks about the Democrats who do support abortion. If you ask some of them, "Have you gone to any abortion clinics and ministered to the women who are seeking an abortion at that particular clinic?" or "Have you called or sent emails to your State Representatives voicing your moral objection to abortion?" More often than not, they'll downright refuse to answer these questions and they'll become irrationally angry and bullheaded.
I guess they think if they vote for someone who makes promises about restricting abortion, they've done enough. How long have Republicans been raising funds on their anti-abortion platform? People keep sending them money and voting for them while nothing gets done. I think Reagan talked about an amendment, but he never once tried to get such an amendment passed by Congress so it could be sent to the states. In fact, Reagan signed a rather "liberal" abortions bill when governor of California. Then when he wanted to run for President, he realized that his liberal position on abortion might not work nationally. Trump pulled the same trick being "pro-choice" before he ran for President, then suddenly "getting religion" and being solidly against abortion when he ran.

Did you see that Putin was also nominated? That settles it. Trump doesn't have a chance of winning, not with Putin in the contest. :)

Vladimir Putin nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

The nomination comes as one of Putin's most prominent critics, opposition leader Alexei Navalny, is recovering from poisoning with a Soviet-era nerve agent. Independent laboratories in Germany, France and Sweden have confirmed that he was poisoned with Novichok, a toxin that has also been used against other opponents of the regime. The Kremlin has flatly rejected the claim that Navalny was poisoned in Russia.

President Trump has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize this year. His nomination was submitted by a Norwegian lawmaker, who nominated him in 2018 as well.

Last week, Presidents Trump and Putin were among those "honored" with the Ig Nobel Prize for Medical Education — a tongue-in-cheek award bestowed on them and other world leaders "for using the Covid-19 viral pandemic to teach the world that politicians can have a more immediate effect on life and death than scientists and doctors can."

You mean Boris Johnson hasn’t been nominated for the Ig Nobel prize !!
I guess the real Nobel peace prize we will just have to wait and see, don’t think it is announced for some time. Rita

Maybe next year, Johnson will get nominated.

I heard a great program on the BBC about the Nobel Prizes just last night. What they had to say about the Peace Prize astounded me. They also answered a question I had had about why Obama got it after only four months in office -- I mean, really, what had he done at that point? They had interesting interviews with people. Here's a link to it, if you have 53 minutes to burn o_O -- I do when I'm delivering newspapers.

Wow what an interesting documentary, a bit of an eye opener. Thanks for sharing it. So one candidate that was overlooked got 48 nominations, and she should have won it the first time round !
With hindsight Obama shouldn’t have got it, hence why I said in another post that only time will prove if something is really achieved. What about Nixon and Kissinger - that’s was interesting.
Also the political manipulations , in order to keep in a line with other countries. So do you think they are endeavouring to keep Putin and Trump sweet ?
The only thing I do not get is the fact that they claim nominations are to be kept secret for 50 years ,so how is it that they are now being published ?

I'm glad you had the time to listen to it. I found it fascinating. And think of it: Obama didn't really deserve it, but Trump is still jealous! :) I guess even Obama didn't think he deserved it.

I was amazed at how political it was. How do we know about Putin and Trump? The people who nominated them blabbed, I guess. I came away from it pretty disillusioned. Talk about "rigged elections."

Oh the third one is an independent award, that could be why it’s not listed as an official Nobel peace prize nomination, so not a press blackout.
You really should listen to that BBC broadcast that was posted earlier, its really interesting. Rita

Al Jazeera covered it. They were quick to point out that there hadn't been mass killings there for twenty years.

Trump’s Kosovo-Serbia normalisation deal is all about Israel

A few weeks later, at a campaign rally in North Carolina, Trump once again praised the deal as “historic”, adding that he is “sure” that the development will lead to him being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize. “We are stopping mass killings between Kosovo and Serbia,” he said. “They have been killing each other for so many years. They are going to stop killing.”

In reality, the war in Kosovo ended 20 years ago. There are no “mass killings” taking place in either country today. And while tensions are still high between Belgrade and Pristina, Trump’s deal is not offering a pathway to political normalisation. So, given that he did not “stop the killing”, what did the American president really achieve as a result of his “peacemaking” efforts in the Balkans?
He also got both to promise to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. I'm not sure if they got promised any goodies for that.

What made him think he stopped mass killings in Kosovo? Does he think the Nobel prize committee can be that easily duped?

Law professors and members of Parliament can nominate a person for the esteemed prize. Flint joined three other Australian legal scholars in nominating the president on the basis of his “Trump Doctrine.”

So it's really not an "independent" nomination. It follows the norms! :)
