The Holy Spirit instructs the saved, and also thru the teachings of pastors and teachers, and biible reference works!
Hmmmmm......well then either the Holy Spirit is confused or you and your Protestant friends are confused when you "reference" the bible since all of your "saved" members, teachers and pastors all received different instructions, truths, doctrines, words etc. from the Holy Spirit.

Me thinks me knows which one is confused....

its the person baptized into that saves us, as if one does not receive Jesus as lord thru faith, then the water just gets you all wet!
That's a 500 year teaching of men. I choose what Scripture says and has been taught for 2,000 years: The water is not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God! Christians liken it to....oh, I don't know...maybe in the days of Noah? You know, while the ark was being prepared in which a few....ummmm about eight persons.... were brought safely through water. Well that water (Baptism) corresponds to that which now saves you....Just like scripture says. ;)

Hi DNB,

Since no where specifically does Scripture say that we are to stop holding fast to the traditions we were taught by word of mouth then I will hold fast to the traditions we are taught.

The word of mouth traditional teaching that Mary was assumed should not be disregarded since is it a tradition that is taught.

Mary
Mary, that was a frivolous response. Absence of evidence, is not evidence of absence. Plus, you didn't once show any concern for the source of your tradition.
I said clearly what the divinely inspired Patriarchs, Prophets and Apostles established, and was later written down for their progeny, is as far as tradition goes.
You did not express any guidelines, nor show any regard for the need to scrutinize from where one receives tradition.

And, I stand to be corrected:
Deuteronomy 4:2
2 You shall not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor take away from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.

Deuteronomy 12:32
32. Whatever I command you, you shall be careful to do; you shall not add to nor take away from it

Revelation 22:18-19
18I testify to everyone who hears the words of prophecy in this book: If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. 19And if anyone takes away from the words of this book of prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and the holy city, which are described in this book.

Jude 1:3 eph 4:5

Pius XII defines the assumption in 1950 is this new doctrine or dogma no it’s thee faith revealed by Christ to His apostles it was defined or decreed in 1950 not made a new doctrine the assumption has been celebrated as an annual feast for over 1500 years and is nothing new
You're wrong. It's no where in the Bible, therefore its origins are spurious, let alone 1500 years old. Plus the other Bulls or decrees, Immaculate Conception, Indulgences, Intercession of Saints, ... nothing Biblical here, all fabricated by wicked, defiant and irreligious men.

Hi DNB<

You do know that THIS book John was speaking of is the book of Revelation....Not the entire bible. That misquote of Scripture using that passage is a common Protestant mistake.

Keeping it real....Mary

Hi,

Soooo when I adhere to Scripture (hold fast to traditions) and I let you know I am going to follow Scripture by holding fast to the traditions that the Church teaches you believe that is a “frivolous response” hmmmmm.....I don’t think it is frivolous to follow Scripture....but that’s just me.

What traditions from Scripture do you hold fast to?

Today one receives traditions from The Church just like the first century Christians did....they received them from The Church. Using Scripture showed me when did that change?

Hi DNB<

Let’s put that passage in context so you can see it has NOTHING to do with what we are talking about: Now, Israel, hear the decrees and laws I am about to teach you. Follow them so that you may live and may go in and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors, is giving you.....

NOW you stand corrected....

And ONCE AGAIN.....In CONTEXT that passage has NOTHING to do with what we are talking about....Read the 31 passages before it...thank you for your time.

Yes, arguably, but, the principle is broader. There is a reason that John said don't alter, it wasn't at his own discretion because he was being possessive or proud. He knew where the inspiration came from, he had the auspices of God behind him. No one else can make that claim, and again, Deuteronomy & Leviticus underscore the same point, and for the exact same reasons.

You continuously evade the point, continuously. No one is arguing against tradition, per se, but which tradition, and from whom. I only accept Apostolic tradition, that happened to get written down in its entirety, prior to the 2nd century.
You are espousing tradition from elsewhere. I am questioning the guidelines that you use? Who do you know that is divinely inspired, that is a true prophet, that has been given authority to add to the traditions of the 1st century Apostles? You keep evading the critical question.

No, the interdiction to not add to Scripture was used in several contexts, ...as any well versed Bible reader should know. There were several clauses, that you may live long on the earth, that you may inherent the land that I promised to Abraham, that I may bless you and curse your enemies, that you may find life in them. King David extolled the virtues and perfection of God's Word, he said that it was life to him and that nothing was greater.

You're being silly. The command was to not alter, for any reason, because they came from God. THAT IS THE POINT!
Whatever specific promises that God offered the Israelites, or grounds for His unalterable injunction, and there were many, all stem from the fact that these were the precepts from God, not Moses, Abraham, or Noah.
Just because there is no land for a Christian to inherit nor enemies to scatter, does not mean that we can add to Scripture, because Scripture is divinely inspired. Do you get the point YET?

eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

Why does it have to be in the Bible for you? Lk 10:16 hear the apostles
Acts 2:42 apostles doctrine not Bible alone
It is in the Bible rev 12:1

All of those Catholic dogmas are false!
