FLASHBACK: 2008 Obama campaign denied Biden vote influenced by payments to Hunter Biden
Then-Sen. Joe Biden was supporting a bankruptcy bill while his son worked for a company that pushed for it
By Ronn Blitzer | Fox News

Back in 2008, when then-candidate Barack Obama was running for the presidency, his campaign defended chosen running mate Joe Biden for backing a bill in the Senate despite his son Hunter working for a bank that supported the legislation.

Obama's campaign aides acknowledged to The New York Times that Hunter Biden's consulting work for MBNA – which earned him a $100,000 yearly retainer – was a subject they looked into when vetting the elder Biden as a running mate.

The bill made it more difficult for individual consumers to declare bankruptcy, which benefitted the credit card industry that included banks like MBNA. The bank was not only paying Hunter Biden from 2001 to 2005 – the year the bill finally passed in the Senate – but bank employees had donated to lawmakers from both parties. This included then-Sen. Biden, who by 2008 had received more than $214,000 in campaign contributions from MBNA employees, according to the Times.

MBNA, which was later bought by Bank of America, was also the largest employer in Biden's home state of Delaware at the time.

Obama aides defended Biden, telling the Times that he was not influenced by either the campaign donations or his son's work. Obama campaign spokesman David Wade said at the time that Biden worked hard for a bipartisan bill and sought changes to it that upset MBNA.

"He took plenty of knocks from the largest employer in his state because he demanded changes in the bankruptcy bill," Wade told the Times. "But legislating requires compromise. Senators cast tough votes. Congress worked on the bankruptcy bill for nearly a decade, over five Congresses, to forge a bipartisan compromise."

Most Senate Democrats opposed the bill, including Obama. Travis Plunkett, legislative director of the Consumer Federation of America, an organization that opposed the bill, told the Times in 2008 that Biden's support for the legislation gave it a “veneer of bipartisanship” that helped garner support from other Democrats.

“He provided cover to other Democrats to do what the credit industry was urging them to do,” Plunkett said.

The bill passed in 2005 after a 74-25 vote in the Senate. All of the votes against the bill were from Democrats, and Biden was one of 18 Democrats who voted in favor of the legislation.

In this story Hunter had a lot of plausible deniability...

Largest employer in area of living...others giving donations too...some things done weren't helpful...

That's not the case this time.

I agree, but this shows a pattern of Joe Biden using his influence as a federal office holder to help a family member. At the minimum, this is a conflict of interest, but now we know it goes much deeper.

You would think that it should have been a warning for Hunter...people are watching every thing that happens.

But since it happened overseas he thought that he could get away with whatever...

Nope...and it's not looking better...only worse as time goes by.

Well, remember that the MSM was/is in Biden's back pocket, so I'm sure it wasn't covered with much scrutiny...if at all.

...
The FBI has become a political party with guns, time to chop the head off of it and incorporate the rest into Homeland Security and the US Marshalls.

Perhaps you've forgotten that the last President who threatened to destroy the CIA and scatter it as dust to the wind, -- was Kennedy. So don't be surprised if we see a "repeat".

Rev. 11:4 These are the two olive trees and the two lampstands which stand before the Lord of the earth. 5 And if any one would harm them, fire pours from their mouth and consumes their foes; if any one would harm them, thus he is doomed to be killed. 6 They have power to shut the sky, that no rain may fall during the days of their prophesying, and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they desire. 7 And when they have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends from the bottomless pit will make war upon them and conquer them and kill them, 8 and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which is allegoricallya]">[a] called Sodom and Egypt, where their Lord was crucified. 9 For three days and a half men from the peoples and tribes and tongues and nations gaze at their dead bodies and refuse to let them be placed in a tomb, 10 and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth. 11 But after the three and a half days a breath of life from God entered them, and they stood up on their feet, and great fear fell on those who saw them. 12 Then they heard a loud voice from heaven saying to them, “Come up hither!” And in the sight of their foes they went up to heaven in a cloud. 13 And at that hour there was a great earthquake, and a tenth of the city fell; seven thousand people were killed in the earthquake, and the rest were terrified and gave glory to the God of heaven.

Yep some will LAUGH and CHEER and PARTY, -- until a little later when apparently 7,000 of them won't be so joyful ...

White House Chief of Staff Warns of a Potential Lawsuit Against Tech Giants
By Masooma Haq
October 19, 2020 Updated: October 19, 2020

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows on Monday suggested that the Trump administration would bring a lawsuit against the social media companies that have recently restricted and blocked news reports about Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

In an interview on “Fox & Friends,” Meadows said that the online platforms try to censor conservatives and suggested that if the story about Joe and Hunter Biden was about President Donald Trump and his family, tech companies would have not blocked the story.

“They have two standards: one for one campaign, one for the other. But I do believe that additional lawsuits will be filed perhaps as early as today to go after that,” Meadows said.

“Listen, it’s not just the campaigns,” he added. “They’re now starting to censor, actually, reporters. That’s a dangerous place for them to go when they’re the arbiter of what they deem to be the truth.”

The Chief of Staff’s comments come in the wake of a report by the New York Post alleging to have obtained emails from a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden. Many Democrats have claimed the story is an effort to discredit Joe Biden and an attempt by Russia to help elect Trump. So far, neither of the Bidens have denied the authenticity of the emails.

The threat of a lawsuit was also prompted by the actions Twitter took to lock Trump’s reelection campaign account last Thursday for trying to share the New York Post story.

Meadows said he has not received any intelligence suggesting that the Russians were involved in the emails being extracted from Hunter Biden’s laptop as Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) has alleged.

“All of this narrative that is out there that would suggest that it’s not real, that’s the disinformation. You know, Adam Schiff came on and said, ‘Oh, this is Russia, Russia, Russia,’ and again, I can tell you this is Adam Schiff once again trying to spin a story that’s not accurate.” Meadows said, “I talked to director Ratcliffe over the weekend and I said, ‘Listen, if this is a Russian disinformation campaign, we need to make sure the American people know that.’ His response to me is that he had no knowledge of that.”

Schiff, who is the chairman of the House intelligence committee, has repeatedly asserted, without evidence, that the Trump 2016 campaign colluded with Russia and now is claiming that Trump is working with Russia to hurt Biden’s campaign.

“We know that this whole smear on Joe Biden comes from the Kremlin,” the California Democrat said on CNN last week, claiming that “the Kremlin has an obvious interest in denigrating Joe Biden,” and that “they want Donald Trump to win.”

When Schiff was asked about specific intelligence about the Kremlin’s involvement with disinformation about Biden, the Representative was unable to provide any evidence, saying that the Director of National Intelligence, John Ratcliffe was not “forthcoming” with intelligence.

“And frankly, we haven’t got much from the intelligence community very recently, which concerns me,” added Schiff.

Meanwhile, Ratcliffe told Fox News on Monday that there is no intelligence to suggest the Hunter Biden email scandal is led by Russia.

“It’s funny that some of the people who complain the most about intelligence being politicized are the ones politicizing the intelligence,” Ratcliffe said. “Unfortunately, in this case it is Adam Schiff, who said the intelligence community believes the Hunter Biden laptop and emails on it are part of a Russian disinformation campaign.”

He continued, “Let me be clear: the intelligence community doesn’t believe that because there is no intelligence that supports that. And we have shared no [such] intelligence with Chairman Schiff or any other member of Congress.”

Ever hear about the fisherman that almost went to jail for 20 years for throwing back a few fish that was supposed to be used against him as evidence of poaching? Fortunately for him the supreme court ruled fish are not tangible.
No, I hadn't heard of that one.

Throwing the hard drive away wouldn't be my first step. I would call the FBI first if I found a hard drive with child porn or other dubious stuff on it. I figure they'd have a better idea what to do with it than I would. I wouldn't want to make copies -- I'd just want it out of my possession. If they weren't interested, I'd say, "Fine." Then I'd get rid of it another way. Why would the police care about my throwing away evidence when they said they weren't interested?

I would not make copies and hand them out to other people -- who knows what might happen if I did that? On the other hand, if I gave it quietly to the FBI, they would know I did it; and if someone killed me, the FBI would have a pretty good idea of who to suspect. I think the safest route to go is to cooperate with the FBI quickly and quietly.

I don't know nor would I want to find out.

I'd just do the right thing...its not a question in this house.

Look.
I know that many guys I work with in construction work are doing drugs and alcohol. Some have reeked of marijuana when coming back from break...but I've got allergies and can't smell so well.
I don't care...so long as they don't do stupid stuff that gets me hurt I'm ok...some guys have done so much marijuana that they work better with a couple of puffs than if they don't.
But at the same time I tell them..."Dont make people ask me questions that you won't like the answers to" (I'm going to tell the truth)

I don't want any...and I don't want to see any.
And no, they can't get a ride with me in my truck...even if they live on my way home.
Dems the rules.

I found a pipe once while crawling around in an attic that was obviously once used for marijuana...I threw it away. The house had been vacated by a bunch of young bachelors renting it and was a wreck.
That's a misdemeanor...not trouble for me. Not anyone to tell. (Except for the owner and I did)
But I think that the plumbers fished it out of the trash.

I don't work for the police...nor do I want to...ever. I have many friends who are police.
Sometimes the best thing is not to know too much, not to be prying and wanting to know everything.

I don't know if I owned that repair store if I would even have looked at the hard drive if I concluded it was abandoned. I may have deleted all the files without caring what was on it so I could resell the laptop.

Sounds like something an authoritarian regime would do to me. Besides, he'll be out of office before the case could be decided. Why try to intimidate corporations for doing what they think makes the best sense for them?

What's next? A Ministry of Truth doing the bidding of the president with officers telling corporations what to allow and what to censor?

For all his talk about regulating business less, I see Trump trying to bully corporations into doing his bidding. Twitter and Facebook don't owe it to him to promote stuff that would help his campaign.

The problem is that the tech companies are more powerful than our government representatives (meaning those voted in to represent us, the people).

I think the tech companies have become the bullies!

Of course, they're too big. I agree.

Blame Republicans for this. They controlled Congress and the White House for two years. They didn't pass any new laws reining in the tech companies. If the tech companies are too big, it's because Republicans failed to act.

I think it fair to say the Democrats will do something about it when they control Congress and the White House and don't have to deal with Republican obstructionism. Expect to see the big tech companies to start paying their fair share of taxes too.

You should listen to it. Then you can knock it.
The green face turned me off. I don't watch videos that start off with Halloweenish stuff like that. I also don't usually visit sites with white or red letters on a black background -- again too Halloweenish.

The Republicans in the Senate investigated this and said they had no real evidence he had done that. When they failed to dig up dirt on Biden, the NY Post put out their story. Who do you trust more? I think I trust the Republican Senators on that committee more than I do the NY Post and Rudy Giuliani.
