I would say Ben Sasse is a real conservative. I found this interesting.

Sasse responded by first talking about issues on which he agrees with Trump, but then cited areas where the president’s views are deficient — not just for a Republican, he says, but for an American.

“The way he kisses dictators' butts. I mean, the way he ignores that the Uighurs are in literal concentration camps in Xinjiang right now,” Sasse said. “He hasn't lifted a finger on behalf of the Hong-Kongers. I mean, he and I have a very different foreign policy. It isn’t just that he fails to lead our allies. It’s that the United States now regularly sells out our allies under his leadership. The way he treats women and spends like a drunken sailor. The ways I criticize President Obama for that kind of spending, I've criticized President Trump for as well. He mocks evangelicals behind closed doors. His family has treated the presidency like a business opportunity. He's flirted with white supremacists."

I agree with everything he said. If Sasse ever ran for President, I'd vote for him. I'd like to see someone like him being Leader of the Senate Republicans. Sasse could probably get more done as Minority Leader than Mitch McConnell has as Majority Leader.

Edit to add: Trump won Nebraska in 2016 by 25%. He's ahead of Biden now by a mere 8%.

I'm very relieved to see more Republicans taking a stand against Trump. I sincerely hope the tide turns on him and he's voted out of office. And I'm speaking as an Independent, who has commonly supported the Republican Party and voted Republican at least 95% of the time for almost 30 years. I was sickened to watch the Republican Party being dragged into the swamp by Trump. I was saddened to see so many conservatives fall one after the other into his snare. I couldn't believe that out of all the Republican presidential nominees in the 2016 election, they chose him.

I thought it was a sick joke when I first heard that Trump had been selected as the Republican Party's presidential nominee. I couldn't believe that the Republican Party, the political party of Christian morality and traditional family values, would sink that low into the abyss of disdain. It wasn't long after I heard about his nomination that I began to distance myself from the Republican Party. I refuse to support Trump or any Trumplican.

I agree with what you said about Sasse and I agree with what he said about Trump. If Sasse ran for President, I'd more than likely vote for him as well. I hope the Republican Party will be able to survive Trumpism. I'd love to see its moral integrity and public reputation restored someday.

I think Ben Sasse was late in saying what he did, but better late than never. It's a pity he didn't stand up to Trump sooner.
I'm not sure he's still openly stood up to Trump. I think that was a phone call to his constituents someone recorded. Trump hit back on Twitter.

Trump lashes back at Nebraska Sen. Sasse after criticism

President Donald Trump pushed back Saturday at Sen. Ben Sasse on Twitter, calling the Nebraska senator “a liability to the Republican Party, and an embarrassment" to the state. . . .

Sasse, who is running for a second term in a reliably red state and is seen as a potential presidential candidate for 2024, made the comments in response to a question about why he has been willing to publicly criticize a president of his own party. He also criticized Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic and said Trump’s family has treated the presidency “like a business opportunity.”

Trump tweeted that Sasse is “the least effective of our 53 Republican Senators, and a person who truly doesn’t have what it takes to be great.”

Trump's tirade continued throughout the day as he compared Sasse to former U.S. Sens. Bob Corker of Tennessee and Jeff Flake of Arizona, who left the Senate after combative relationships with the president. Trump suggested perhaps Republicans should find “a new and more viable candidate?”

Perhaps, Giuliano, he's growing spine. :)
Perhaps. Some might say he smells blood in the water. Politicians will often support a leader until it becomes clear that person is going down. Then some of them are like sharks smelling blood in the water, or you could compare it to rats fleeing a sinking ship.

Senator Toomey just announced he's not running again in 2022. I would have found it hard to vote for him again. First he stood up to Trump; then Trump won the nomination and Toomey became his loyal lapdog. He lost his spine. I used to listen to a radio show here in Pennsylvania with Toomey as the host. He was all in favor of fiscal conservatism then. He abandoned that too -- going with Mitch McConnell when massive budgets got passed. We were already hitting record highs in spending, the national deficit and the accumulated national debt before the coronavirus hit. Now we're in very serious fiscal shape -- with the national debt being bigger than GDP. I feel betrayed. I feel that Toomey had his priorities wrong and was more interested in placating Trump than in representing me and the other voters in Pennsylvania.

I think he knew he couldn't get elected again. The state has been trending more Democratic; and his record of bowing down to Trump and voting for wasteful spending would have made him hard to convince voters he was serious about anything.

I agree, Giuliano. The smell of blood is in the water.

I think that Christians who've put up with Trump and his followers are having enough also, and think it's time to speak out against a person who is a manifest anti-christ.

Republican politicians have to be very nervous. Then add coronavirus to the equation. If you check out where coronavirus is peaking the most, it's in the red states. To make matters worse, it's often out in rural areas. I don't know what to expect in two weeks. I can't see how the red states getting hit hard could possibly help Trump. You look at how reckless Trump is about it in his own life -- can you expect him to care about you then? If he had only encouraged people to wear masks more and set a good example, who knows how much suffering and how many deaths could have been prevented?

I find it shocking how bad the red states are getting hit now. It's tragic too.

Story here if you're interested: U.S. is staring down a 'substantial third wave' of coronavirus cases. Here are the numbers

It's too bad, Giuliano, that all that sickness and death has come upon the American people. It's too bad that that those responsible for negligence in this matter are not held more accountable.

The latest story to circulate is that Sasse's campaign itself may have leaked that phone conversation. LOL

Jake Tapper recently cut an interview with Lara Trump short. It really is odd that she and other Republicans talk about Biden's having a mental decline when Trump has his own problems.

And now for some levity. One of Trump's campaign advisers recently compared Biden to Mr. Rogers. Is that a bad thing,or was she trying to alienate everyone who liked Mr. Rogers when they were young?

Mr. Rogers trends after Trump adviser compares Biden to icon

Mr. Rogers started trending on Twitter on Thursday after senior Trump campaign adviser Mercedes Schlapp tweeted that watching ABC’s town hall with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden was similar to watching an episode of the famous children’s television show "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood."

"Well @JoeBiden @ABCPolitics townhall feels like I am watching an episode of Mister Rodgers Neighborhood," Schlapp tweeted, misspelling the late TV icon Fred Rogers's last name.
Come now, be fair. Don't expect good spelling from this crowd when Donald has misspelled his own wife's name.

Democratic strategist and former Hillary Clinton senior adviser Zac Petkanas tweeted, "Pretty telling that this crew thinks Mr. Rogers is the bad guy.”
Then someone put up a video called "Trump's Neighborhood."

To ALL,

What's REALLY INTERESTING is that satan has infiltrated not only the Government (Deep State), Society (our Media), our Church (the Deceived), but also the Jews (the Deceived). And it's no surprise given the EVIDENCE versus the OPINIONS, -- being that during WWII some Jews PAID for their "Train Ticket" to the Death Camps thinking this was a "HOLIDAY".

It's what satan does best (LIES), and who satan convinces (the gullible). But GOD's plans ALWAYS defeat satan's plans, usually not as satan expected when he crucified Jesus, only to see GOD RAISE JESUS FROM THE DEAD. And so I STILL anticipate Trump & Pence to win, than then see their DEAD BODIES in the streets for 3 1/2 days whereupon GOD with RAISE THEM FROM THE DEAD to ascend through the clouds.

But it's still disturbing to see those in the church and synagogues shouting BARABAS, BARABAS, BARABAS ...

There was a little bit of good news today for Trump in the polls.

There aren't many polls in Arkansas since it's so solidly Republican, but it went from "leaning to" Trump to "solidly for" Trump.

Ohio? Who knows what's going on there? More recent polls showed up with Trump being ahead in the average of polls. So it went from leaning to Biden to leaning to Trump.

Revised electoral vote prediction: Biden 357, Trump 181.

I'm leaning more toward Biden as each day brings us closer to the election. In fact, I lean more toward Biden each time I listen to Trump or I read political posts and other online comments from his supporters. I've never voted for a Democratic candidate in a presidential election before.

I've gone back and forth over the years. I listen to the news as I drive, mostly on NPR and the BBC. They play short clips of speeches; and they seem to be getting more and more outlandish. His audiences cheer, but I honestly don't think the insults he hurls is helping him win over undecided voters. I think most people are so tired of the vitriol that Biden may win by being friendlier and more rational.

Biden is apparently interviewing some Republicans as possible cabinet posts. That is annoying some of the people on the hard-left, to be sure; but do let's remember that Obama had some Republicans in his cabinet. So far, it's been kept low profile since it's doubtful it would win him votes from the right.

Story here: Biden eyes GOP candidates for Cabinet slots

Joe Biden’s transition team is vetting a handful of Republicans for potential Cabinet positions — despite doubts it will win him new support from the right and the risk it will enrage the left.

Reaching across the aisle to pick senior members of his administration could shore up Biden's credentials as a unity candidate, a message he's made a cornerstone of his campaign. Past presidents including George W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama have all done the same. But that tradition died with President Donald Trump, and liberal Democrats are already warning that a Republican pick, even a moderate one, could sow distrust within the party before Biden even takes office.

I hope Biden does include some Republicans in his cabinet.

Among the names being floated for possible Biden Cabinet posts are Meg Whitman, the CEO of Quibi and former CEO of eBay, and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich, both of whom spoke at August’s Democratic National Convention. Massachusetts GOP Gov. Charlie Baker and former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) have also been mentioned, as has former Rep. Charlie Dent (R-Pa.), who resigned from Congress in 2018 and became a lobbyist.

When asked for comment, a spokesperson for the Biden transition said only that the team is not making any personnel decisions before the Nov. 3 election, but stressed that “diversity of ideology and background is a core value of the transition.”
Kasich is one of my favorite Republicans. Years ago when I had C-Span, I used to hear him speaking on the floor of the House. I voted for him in the primary when he ran for President.

The polls haven't shifted dramatically, and I had the time to fiddle with my charts. I wanted to know how much public opinion would need to shift for Trump to win. A shift of 1% would give him 211 electoral votes. A shift of 2% would give him 248 , 3.5% would be 259; and he'd cross the magic mark if the shift was 3.8% to get him 279. Roughly speaking then, he needs to shift opinion about 4%.

If voter suppression is an issue, I estimate 1% at most. So if he could suppress 1% of the vote and shift the rest 3%, he could win.
