PASTOR: IDEA CHRIST DIED FOR SINS 'INSANE'April 2, 2007WorldNetDaily.com reports: “Church of England traditionalists, wearied by the battles over homosexuality in the church and the clergy, are about to take it on their spiritual chins once again when a leading ‘gay’ cleric will tell listeners to BBC Radio 4 that Christianity's traditional teaching on Christ's crucifixion for the sins of mankind is ‘repulsive,’ ‘insane’ and makes ‘God sound like a psychopath.’Rev. Jeffrey John, who was forced to withdraw before assuming a position as bishop in 2003 after it was learned he was in a longterm homosexual relationship, is scheduled to appear on Wednesday and will criticize ministers who use their Easter messages to preach that Jesus was sent to earth to die as an atonement for sin, reported the London Telegraph.Christian theology has taught the doctrine of ‘penal substitution’ – that humans, alienated from God by their sins and unable to save themselves, could only be forgiven by God sending Christ as a substitute to suffer and die in their place.‘In other words, Jesus took the rap and we got forgiven as long as we said we believed in him,’ said John. ‘This is repulsive as well as nonsensical. It makes God sound like a psychopath. If a human behaved like this we'd say that they [sic] were a monster.’…In rejecting penal substitution, John will reportedly propose a different interpretation of Christ's death, suggesting Christ was crucified so he could ‘share in the worst of grief and suffering that life can throw at us.’Too many Christians fail to understand God is about ‘love and truth’, not ‘wrath and punishment,’ Johns said.Rev. Tom Wright, the bishop of Durham, blasted the BBC for giving John such an influential forum to make provocative claims on traditional beliefs, saying John's statements attacked the central message of the Christian gospel…” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Satan's lies grow more numerous by the day Christianity is being attacked from inside, outside more and more, take heart in the fact it means the time grows short till the coming of the Lord.

Pure nonsense. I don't understand what the point of belief is if you assume that God sent his only begotten son here just to see what it feels like. That makes even less sense because an omniscient God would know... This should be filed away in the stupid idea files for sure. It's a sad state of affairs for sure, and it troubles me that anyone in a position of authority would say this.

I am curious, how confindent are you that the "end is near"? How many more years would you say are probably left?

It is the season ... this generation from 1948 will not completely pass away before the end of days. There are rules about date setting and its plain you want us to do that, but God says " no man knows the hour, not even the angels.."

So this means probably before about 2058 or so?

It's quite clear that betchevy said that ..." no man knows the hour, not even the angels.." Only the Father knows. Matthew 24:36, Mark 13:32Lovest ye in Christ Jesus our Lord and Saviour. God bless.P.S. Satan's lies are getting ridiculous.

Radiothere are three lenghths of a Generation listed in the Biblethey 40 years,70 years ,120 years so the longest period of time it can be is 120 years after 1948 which is 2068, but he promises that the last person to see Israel become a nation shall not die before the end comes. So sense people today do not live to be a 120 years old, most likely we are talking 70 year gen. 2018. People born in 1948 are 59 years old.But he never says he will wait till the last day it could be anytime as Bet says we are in the season

Well, if I live to be about 85-90 there is a good chance I will out live everyone born in 1948. I doubt this forum will still be around, but it should be fun to dig this old post out of the Internet Archives...Assumeing of course I am right.

And if you are wrong maybe God will show it to you on judgement day and say see you were told yet you were blind and deaf to the truth.

*sigh* I say it's pointless to have an argument. One is an Athiest, and one is a Christian, it is obvious that they both are completely against each other (spiritually) It doesn't even profit anything at all.
