I have always believed Jesus died and came back from the dead but not on the cross, i believe his holy spirit is alive and well and doing its work in our hearts, a forever presence, Omnipotent.
As well as the coverage of those events in the bible I believe there is also historic coverage of the events.

'These things have I spoken unto you,
being yet present with you.
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost,
Whom the Father will send in My Name,
He shall teach you all things,
and bring all things to your remembrance,
whatsoever I have said unto you.'
(John 14:25)

Hi @Stuart,

When quoting the Scripture I quoted at the beginning of my last response to you, (now quoted above) I was struck by the wording of it. 'But the Comforter, Which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He shall teach you all things'.

Here you have 'the Comforter' followed by the word, 'Which', because referring to what He will do rather than than to Whom He is, then the words, 'the Holy Ghost' followed by the word, 'Whom', and 'He', because referring to Himself, or his person. There are those who refer to the Holy Spirit as simply the power of God manifested, but here with the use of the words, 'Whom' and 'He', He is personified. It is He Who takes of the things of Christ and makes them ours, as we read His word with a heart that is open to believe and receive what He has to impart. He always turns our eyes upon Christ, never upon Himself.

Praise God!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus

'Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.'

(Col 3:16)

Hello again, @Stuart

I woke up this morning and before I had left my bed knew that I wanted a boiled egg, My stomach was rumbling and telling me I needed something substantial to eat, for the day before I had been using-up goodies bought for the time of celebration now passed, all of which was devoid of any real goodness. Chocolate and cheesy biscuits etc., lovely to eat, but of no particular value to the body.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, those who have been saved by God's grace, we desire the sincere milk of the word that we may grow thereby, for it is the food of our inner man, of our spirit. Yet we love to engage with others in a forum situation like this, where we receive tit-bits, which are sweet to the taste, but which rarely have substance for the spirit to grow by. It is only the study of God's word which nourishes and sustains us, all else, though titillating to the senses, have no benefit long term. It has it's place, but it is enticing and can take us away from that study time, which our spirit is desperately in need of. Strong meat to make us strong in the Lord and the power of His might.

This is a word for myself as much as for you, Stuart, for as my body desired an egg for breakfast, so my spirit wants me to get down and study the book of Romans again, to reinforce it's truths in my mind and heart once more.

Thank you :)
In Christ Jesus
Chris

Hi @Stuart
I see you think the gospels different, and they are as, all four of the writers were watching Christ get crucified from different angels for instance, in Matthew, we read where the Roman soldiers were casting lots for His clothes and torturing Him by poking Him with their sticks or what ever they had and saying thing =s to Him like 'who poked you now, cant you tell us as you are such a prophet' things to that effect. It sounds strange until you read Mark...there it will make sense as in Mark...it is written that before that all took place, "they blindfolded Him" So, my guess is that Mark's view showed Him blindfolded where as Matthews did not...or Matthew just did not think to write that small detail. It all comes together when we study diligently. It is not so easy for me to study and understand many things for years, until He shows me, and He does, in His time. You see, He WANTS us to dig as if looking for treasure as, His words are alive and He hides a thing sometimes to see if our hearts desire is to seek Him with all we have. Don't become weary brother, we all have had the same questions that you do.
God Bless you so much with understanding, joy and peace bro!

Hi @Stuart

I tend to accept what is written in God's word without question, and if it is written that He was raised from the grave, and ascended into heaven, then I believe it.

The four gospel accounts are written with different objectives in view, not known to the writers themselves, but only to the One Who inspired them to write them. The Holy Spirit bringing to the minds of the writer those things that he would have them write. I like to look at all four, and compare the differences, for they each have something to add which the other lacks. That is for a purpose, and we must not doubt that God intended it so. For us, these differences are intended to make us pause and consider and learn by them. He wants us to have the joy of discovery. We are His children and joy is what He wants for us. His word therefore is a living word, full of delight and inspiration, revealing more and more of Himself.

Praise God!

Just enjoy it, Stuart.
Thank you

I had just responded to this post and it has to do just with what you say here, only not quite as well written :D

With respect, I would ask you to consider verse 11, which you have quoted (above), for your bracketed words (cleansing and purifying) appear to imply that Christ Himself needed 'cleansing and purifying', which we know is not the case. Circumcision here is spoken of in regard to Christ's death, when His life was 'cut off'. (Circumcision being the cutting off of the foreskin). Believers are reckoned to have died with Him (- in doing so, putting off the body of the sins of the flesh v.11), and have been raised with Him to walk in newness of life before the Father.
I think it's just an ambiguity of the translation. Knowing, like you, that Jesus didn't need purifying, I took it to mean that it was Christ performing the cleansing, not that Christ was being cleansed. Some different translations help to make that clearer. I had quoted the WEB, which said "putting off of the body of the sins of the flesh, in the circumcision of Christ". Here are some other translations:

[KJV] In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:

[ISV] In union with him you were also circumcised with a circumcision performed without human hands by stripping off the corrupt nature by the circumcision performed by the Messiah.

[REB] In him also you were circumcised, not in a physical sense, but by the stripping away of the old nature, which is Christ's way of circumcision.

[TLV] In Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision done not by hand, in the stripping away of the body of the flesh through the circumcision of Messiah.

[NCV] Also in Christ you had a different kind of circumcision, a circumcision not done by hands. It was through Christ's circumcision, that is, his death, that you were made free from the power of your sinful self.

You might like that last version (New Century Version) the best, although it's not a precise word for word translation (for example the word 'death' doesn't appear in the Greek texts). I quite like the third one (Revised English Bible).

Makes me think also of John 16:12-16 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. [13] Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. [14] He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. [15] All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you. [16] A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

I confess that i am not totally convinced that Jesus was resurrected, i would like to believe that but i seem to not have a strong enough faith as to believe that it could happen, i question its validity but i realise that he was a great man and i still believe he was the son of God, I believe most of the Word but the Resurrection is hard to digest for me.
Then you are not saved according to Romans 10. That should be scary. There are great books about how we can know the Resurrection happened, I'll find one, I can't think of the name off hand but it is by Gary Habermas. Romans 10:9 is clear though. We MUST believe in our hearts that God raised Christ from the dead.

Many eyewitnesses saw Jesus alive after He had been crucified. If Jesus was not raised from the dead, then we are still in our sins.

1 Cor 15:17–and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.
This really is the core of it. I also like what someone else pointed out ...that faith comes by hearing, and hearing comes by the Word of God. Knowing the Word of God is crucial. It is the truth we need!
John 8 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ³¹ Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; ³² And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Reading the Word and getting that down into your very foundation is so vital. His Word is alive and active! Read it and allow it to do its work within your heart, mind, and spirit. He sent His Word and it will accomplish the thing He sent it to do!

Isaiah 55 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¹⁰ For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: ¹¹ So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

By reading the Word of God, you will become more attuned to His voice speaking to you (your hearing will be trained to His voice). And the lies will be so obvious when satan throws them at you, you will have His Word as your sword, and faith as your shield to fend them off.

Ephesians 6 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¹⁰ Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. ¹¹ Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. ¹² For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. ¹³ Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. ¹⁴ Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; ¹⁵ And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. ¹⁷ And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: ¹⁸ Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Hebrews 4 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¹² For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. ¹³ Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. ¹⁴ Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. ¹⁵ For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. ¹⁶ Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

This is the battle ground, @Stuart ....fight the good fight of faith.

1 Timothy 6 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¹² Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. ¹³ I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession; ¹⁴ That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Hold fast unto the end!

“For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;” — Hebrews 3:14 (KJV)

Thanks for all the responces guys & gals, i really appreciate you guys trying to help, its just the way that it happened, like if Jesus was truly son of god, Man on earth then reason would dictate that his body would naturally ...like the rest of man, but for a a man to vanish into thin air after being dead, is very far fetched :( i believe he was not dead but managed to make it look that way in order to fulfill prophesy, maybe it was arrange for him to be taken off the cross when it appeared he was dead, maybe he wasnt in the tomb from the start and he died a natural death in peace later, it is much nicer to think he survived the cross and died in much nicer circumstances later. despite all this prophesy was fulfilled either way.

Stuart, you should maybe look into the history of the accounts of His resurrections.
The bible's actual history is measured by the same yardstick as any piece of history.
I pray your eyes will be opened as well as your heart to be softened to receive His truth. If we honestly want truth, He WILL show us. But, we cannot cherry pick what we want out of the scriptures as, all scripture is given us for all things in this and the next life.
I will be praying for you brother.
And BTW-yes, our God IS far fetched as He is the Creator of all things seen and unseen... and ALL good things come from His hand, amen.

thanks Nancy, I am trying to believe that part of the word, i just get really mixed up with the tragedy of it all, nobody deserves to die like that :( it makes me feel sick that we as humans could be capable of such cruelty toward fellow man and the fact that he is our living God makes it even more cruel :( make me feel desperately sad my eyes fill as i type

There is a short scripture, you might know it, it goes:

"And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief."
Mark 9:24

He WILL help you with your doubts as you seek Him without ceasing. Look at the parable of the widow and the unjust judge:

18 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:

3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.

4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;

5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.

6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.

7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?"

He WANT'S us to seek Him like this, He tests our hearts and our faith and, that is how we can grow in understanding. :) It's all in faith, believing in His promises and submission...IMHO brother.
his Blessings brother!

It can take years of reading the Bible in chronological order, but if that is done and your understanding of God's Holy Word matures, you will find that God planned all of these things so that He could prove His Power. It may seem hard to believe . . . what I just wrote, but that's what things really boil down to. God is in control of all things, and the Plan that He created is the most unbelievable thing ever imagined. And as said, once a person begins to see this beyond remarkable Plan and that it is actually being executed as we visit this site . . . well, it is nothing short of mind-boggling. Power; these things happen because of Raw, Unbelievable, Almighty Power.

@Nancy i think i continually mourn his passing, such a tragedy even though it was Gods plan :( it is so horrific, i kind of lose my faith in humanity bc of this one act, His resurrection takes the sting away a little but it is still like an open wound for me, much like jesus pierced side, i would not ask to put my hand on his open wound :(

Nah, please don't look at the Lord's Plan in this way. God caused us to be as we were. Therefore, as you speak disparagingly in this way, and I totally get it, your feelings actually show a disdain for the Lord and what He has both chosen and done. Don't worry, your disgust is honest and Pure, thus the Lord understands, but it is better to look upon the Lord's Plan of Jesus laying down His life so that no more animal sacrifices must be made. He laid down His life so that we could all be free . . . so it is beautiful Stuart. Please consider the two below passage sets:

Genesis 3:22-24 NLT - "Then the LORD God said, "Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!" 23 So the LORD God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made. 24 After sending them out, the LORD God stationed mighty cherubim to the east of the Garden of Eden. And he placed a flaming sword that flashed back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life."

Jesus is that Tree of Life that would hang from a Tree. The Lord knew, by His Eternal Plan, that mankind would have to wait thousands of years before they eat from the Tree of Life and have their Sinful Nature removed from their hearts. That Tree of Life in the Garden is Jesus as a picture of what was to come as Jesus hung on the Tree, became a Curse for us . . . and died.

Please also understand that God takes full responsibility for Jesus being killed, for those that killed Him were placed into a "deep sleep" so that they couldn't possibly understand and do the right thing. Part of their inability to obey was their understanding of the Law, which they thought taught the need to kill Jesus. Because they were placed into the deep sleep, they basically had no choice to do what they had done, for the Plan of God must be fulfilled.

We're ok! God is going to take care of us! Just read the Word of God . . . Trust it's Core message and don't worry about the little stuff that bothers you. What matters is that you understand what Salvation is and how to be sure that you have obtained it. There is nothing more important than learning what the Work of Christ and His Holy Spirit is that ensures Eternal Life.

I believe in you, so if you take the Word of God seriously, God will take you seriously. So I would suggest that you read the Bible in a timeline, chronological format and read it as though it were a normal, typical book with all of the chapters in the right order.

Again . . . I believe in you. You can do this!
