Soooooo Jesus renamed Simon to a name that means "rock" but your theory is that Jesus was referring to himself as the rock when he said "YOU" seven times to a person he just called a "rock"???

It is Peter's confession that is the rock the church is built upon. "Thou art the Christ the Son of the living God". Anyone who denies the deity of Christ is not a Christian. This is the very foundation of what it means to be a Christian and to believe in the testimony of Jesus. John 20:28-29

Then the king will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,

naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.'
Notice that in Matthew 25:34 Jesus said, “the kingdom prepared for them.” This means that the people are already believers. In verse 37 Jesus says, “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You drink?'” They are righteous. They are believers who have the righteousness of God (Philippians 3:9). It is the righteous, the believers, who do the good works. It isn’t doing the good works that makes you Christian or righteous. Those who are already sheep are doing the good deeds, and they inherit eternal life.

Jesus is not teaching righteousness by faith and works. He is teaching on the coming judgment, and that those who are truly sheep will have done the things that are right, and they will inherit eternal life – because they are already his.

So, basically, you're an anti-Nicolaitan. You seem to be anxious to make that clear.

Yes. It is the very thing that creeps in unawares into the churches and corrupts them. Revelation 2:14-15
It comes in many forms, from leviathon to Python to jezebel spirits, and creates a distinction between those who lead as having special knowledge over those who do not. We all who are in Christ Jesus have the same Holy Spirit in us and the same unction. there is no priestly and laity class, but we are all called to be a royal priesthood. we are all called to fulfill the great commission with the gifts we are given.

I LOVE that verse.

However - James 2:19 destroys the fallacy that "faith" and "belief" are the same thing.
James 2:19
You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!

And in you abject ignorance, you fail to see that Paul is speaking the MOSAIC LAW in this verse.

Faith = Belief + Works, which is obedience to the works that God has prepared FOR us (Eph. 2:10). They are not an "after-effect" of faith, nor are they works of our "own" - and they are NOT works of the Law.
Matt. 25:31-46, James 2:14-26, 1 Cor. 13:1-13, Gal. 5:-6 and many other verses show us that "FAITH" is not simply an emotion - but the WAY you live your life.
Nobody is saying faith is merely an emotion. No one is saying that faith won't produce changes in a person. I attended plenty of churches that taught some kind of works salvation. And it's never answered: How many works are enough to merit salvation? Do I need to give my body to be burned or walk on nails? Perhaps walk on my knees to Jerusalem? Perhaps flail my body with a whip every time I have a wrong thought? Maybe that will appease your angry God enough so he'll let me in? What silliness! And yet those are the kinds of things Catholics have done to try and obtain salvation. It's so sad that you never know the God of grace who truly did give himself as an atonement for every sin, not just some of them.
Yes, Paul is speaking on the law, but people are really quick to create new laws. How many good works are enough? The answer is always "Just one more. Maybe this one will get me in."

Paul says those who want to go back to the law are slaves.
Galatians 4:9, : "But now that you know God--or rather are known by God--how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?
Too many answer" "Yes, because I need to earn my salvation...I can't bring myself to believe that it's free." What a tragedy. Many will say they did great things for him but God will tell them he never knew them, because they never really accepted his free gift, rather, they tried to earn it for themselves.

Here is what I wrote in response to this post.

My Position is an observation of facts as was indicated by the image posted. No Other religion fits the description as well. The Question for you is has your church fallen into such apostacy? I am not speaking of the people but the leadership? Right down to the pearls on the Popes necklace, this description is very accurate to the imagery of the RCC.

If You continue reading This passage, and this is speaking of the RCC, there is a warning to the Catholic believers as to the eventual demise of the harlot at the hands of the beast she rides and the ten Kings that rule with the beast. A Beast is human government, no other church is keen on ruling with the government like the RCC as the church militant But it ends up turning on them. Not to mention the warning In Revelation 18:4.

I Say this with a heart of warning to you, and any who will listen, not with the heart of Judas, and anti-Catholicism. I am anti-Nicolaitanism, which is what I believe the leadership of many churches are falling into Catholic and protestant alike.

I Know to this day the Jewish People refuse to read passages such as Ezekiel 16 because of the hard words in them, but that does not deny that they are in the word of God. Harlotry is a very real problem in the church, and any church is a potential victim of this, not just the catholic church. I Agree with some of the posters here as to this being problematic in the protestant churches as well. What protestants in England did to the irish catholics is no different than what the Catholics did to the Anabaptists, the Problem is the hierarchy of the churches, the nicolaitans that lord over the laity and commit Balaam's error and do so personal glory and robbing God of His Glory.

I Was wondering when the victim mentality of the left (Post modernism) would show up on this forum? When the truth and conviction would become considered hate crime and a violation of TOS, and in so doing the conviction of the Holy Ghost would be silenced on this forum. I Have seen this over and over again as the Nicolaitans in control of forums flex their muscle and silence those who speak the truth.

If you have read any of my comments here, they are anything but anti-Catholic, but rather pro reform, which is to say I am an equally critical of protestant denominations for perpetuating the same forms of Nicolaitanism. This is the harlotry, the fact that the Catholic church has a side that is in bed with the powers of the world is really no different than what is seen in many protestant circles in the U.S. that are politically involved in the same efforts, which I have also addressed on this forum pointing to the flaws in the Qanon movement, and the current election uprisings in DC. This is not the kingdom of heaven and we should not be trying to reform the world, but trying to reform the church to be separate from the world and the powers that are at work therein.

Hi Renniks,

I missed the verse that said the Apostles immersed for baptism. Would you share it with me?

Thanks...Mary
The only references we have in scripture are to immersion.

"When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'

So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

WRONG.

Faith is NOT simply "believing."
If that's all you have - then you're NO better off than the demons (James 2:19) who do the same.

True Faith WORKS through Love (Gal 5:6. 1 Cor. 13:1-13). Only the nes that DO the will of the Father will be saved (Matt. 7:21).
If you count on your OWN works, then you have nothing. True believers count on the works that were prepared FOR them by God in advance as an essential element of thei faith (Eph. 2:10).

saved by grace which gives merit to both faith and works
Why judged by works? Rom 2:6

Scripture interprets scripture,
another teaching of men...

a harlot is a false religious system as is evidenced by old testament teaching on what happened to Judaism

a harlot is one that prostitutes themselves. An example would be the nation of Israel giving itself to the Egyptians and Assyrians for protection rather than relying on God...

In a religious sense it would be seeking the favour of other gods... something the Catholic Church has never done..

Read ezekiel 23 among the many passages that deal with the harlotry of the temple and the priestly class in Israel, and the ultimate point of what the Pharisaical leaders became at the time of Jesus. So I disagree with this statement because scripture clearly tells us what a harlot is spiritually.

nonsense. scripture clearly shows what Babylon is:

Economic superpower:

The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn for her, because there will be no more markets for their cargo:

their cargo of gold, silver, precious stones, and pearls; fine linen, purple silk, and scarlet cloth; fragrant wood of every kind, all articles of ivory and all articles of the most expensive wood, bronze, iron, and marble;

cinnamon, spice, incense, myrrh, and frankincense; wine, olive oil, fine flour, and wheat; cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and slaves, that is, human beings.

"The fruit you craved has left you. All your luxury and splendor are gone, never again will one find them."

The merchants who deal in these goods, who grew rich from her, will keep their distance for fear of the torment inflicted on her. Weeping and mourning,

they cry out: "Alas, alas, great city, wearing fine linen, purple and scarlet, adorned (in) gold, precious stones, and pearls.

In one hour this great wealth has been ruined." Every captain of a ship, every traveler at sea, sailors, and seafaring merchants stood at a distance

Military superpower:

Jer 50 and 51

How has the hammer of the whole earth been broken and shattered! What an object of horror Babylon has become among the nations.

Habbukuk

Terrible and dreadful is he, from himself derive his law and his majesty.

Swifter than leopards are his horses, and keener than wolves at evening. His horses prance, his horsemen come from afar: They fly like the eagle hastening to devour;

each comes for the rapine, Their combined onset is that of a stormwind that heaps up captives like sand.

He scoffs at kings, and princes are his laughingstock; He laughs at any fortress, heaps up a ramp, and conquers it.

The apostolic church is the foundation of the true church.

Indeed. And the Church in Rome, the Church in Alexandria and the Church in Constantinople are 3 2000 year old living witnesses to the deposit of Faith received from the apostles.

Here's St. Ignatius who was made bishop of the Church in Antioch by apostles:

Abstain from noxious herbs, which are not the
husbandry of Jesus Christ, because they are not the
planting of the Father. Not that I have found division
among you, but filtering.
For as many as are of God and of Jesus Christ,
they are with the bishop; and as many as shall repent
and enter into the unity of the Church, these also
shall be of God, that they may be living after Jesus
Christ.
Be not deceived, my brethren. If any man
followeth one that maketh a schism, _he doth not
inherit the kingdom of God._ If any man walketh in
strange doctrine, he hath no fellowship with the
passion.

St. Ignatius of Antioch to the Philadelphians (Lightfoot translation)

The church in Rome was built upon the apostolic church, but it was slowly and methodically corrupted, beginning with Constantine.

Then that leaves you Alexandria and Constantinople... if all the apostolic communities have fallen then Jesus is shown a false prophet.... but of course He is not, and His Church has grown and filled the world in fulfilment of scripture:

In the lifetime of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed or delivered up to another people; rather, it shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and put an end to them, and it shall stand forever.

Nicolaitanism is Harlotry.

you have no basis whatsoever to affirm what the heresy of the Nicolations was...

but if Rome is your stumbling block, then come to the Feast with Alexandria, come with Constantinople,
but come!

The Spirit and the bride say, "Come." Let the hearer say, "Come." Let the one who thirsts come forward, and the one who wants it receive the gift of life-giving water.

Peace be with you!

I think we are misjudging history. The people in apostolic days were not illiterate. Those fisherman Jesus picked could read and write in aramaic and Greek. And probably speak the low latin of the romans.
The dark ages brought on illiteracy through religious owned expensive schools in a feudal society where the peasants were nothing more than slave labor for the land owners... Who were in a lot of cases church officers or royalty loyal to Rome. It wasn't until the reformation and the influx later Byzantine literature from the east that education and learning, including literacy among the lower classes, began to improve.
And certainly, as your encyclicals confirm, the church did not want a laity that could read or understand scripture. An educated lower class was an enemy to Catholic power. And when true education became the norm, the Jesuits then had the task to take over the schools, the seminaries, and the universities and education systems of even Protestant Nations such as the US which they have done with great success in order to control what is taught and how... Especially in regards to history.

All you need is a Bible in your own language and will abandon the church and be Protestant

whatever

Thank you. So you say that Jesus was immersed when he came up out of the water even though Scripture doesn't say that. Is it possible he was waste deep or chest deep?

You say that the eunuch was immersed even though Scripture doesn't say that. Is it possible to go into water without being immersed?

Once again, based on Scripture alone, it does NOT say they were immersed. HOWEVER, we do have a historical Christian writing that was written before some of the NT epistles instructing pouring or sprinkling of water. Some of the earliest images (paintings, engravings) we have from Christians show pouring of water during baptism. Scripture, historical writings and imagery doesn't support your immersion beleif.

However, I personally do believe that immersion was PROBABLY the preferred method.

Jesus is the rock that all churches are built on - not Peter. Jesus was referring to Himself in Matt. 16:18.
He asked who do they say I am and Peter answered, the Son of the Living God. Jesus is responsible for building the Church, Peter died a few decades later. The Holy Spirit converts the heart. Then that disciple goes out and scatters the seed. It is a spiritual seed.
Jesus worked through all His believers to build His Church which now consists of 2.5 billion.
There are false churches with false teachers. But ultimately God's sovereign plan is moving along with perfection. He allows and factors in all our sin, blunders, and errors in teaching. No church is perfect! Some are faithful and grow fruit, others are stagnant, worldly, allow sin and false doctrine as we've seen evidence of in Jesus' letters to the Seven Churches. He warns most if thise churches to repent, otherwise He will take away their lampstand, the Light.

that’s why he says Peter and why he gave Peter the keys of heavenly authority

Coming up out of the water sounds like immersion to me. Does it matter? Probably not because the water doesn't save anyway. But I think you're grasping at straws, trying to get sprinkling from scripture.

Then that leaves you Alexandria and Constantinople... if all the apostolic communities have fallen then Jesus is shown a false prophet.... but of course He is not, and His Church has grown and filled the world in fulfilment of scripture:

When One priesthood fails, God raises up a new priesthood out of the remnant of the old that did not get corrupted, this is the true church history, as well as what happened in Israel. From the remnant of the apostolic church he raised up the church of Smyrna, From the church of Rome he raised up the reformation church, when that was corrupted he raised up Wesley, when that was corrupted he raised up the Pentecostal movement that is now being corrupted. From this final Laodicean age he raising up the saints of the Millennial age to come. They are coming out of all the churches of men, that have been corrupted and arriving at the fulness of Christ, the beast will make war on them and overcome them, but they will overcome Satan by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. Many of those who are fully enthralled in the churches of men will be complicit in this war on the saints for they will be among those whose love has waxed cold and are offended by the Truth these saints will preach which is the Gospel of the kingdom once again being preached, many already are for the king is coming and he is coming to judge this time, and judgment begins at the house of God, meaning the church, as the wheat and tares will be separated by his angels and the strong delusion will take hold of them and they will eventually be cast into the fire. The question is which side will you be on? the one persecuting the saints, or among the saints being persecuted?

The passage in Revelation 17 and 18 has a woman a harlot riding a beast. the woman is a symbolic of religion while the beast symbolic of earthly kingdoms. So yes, Babylon is a state, but the woman riding the beast is a religious system, a system of Nicolaitan church leaders riding in unison with the kingdoms of this world as the church militant whatever stripe they may take from Catholic and protestant circles. You see, in revelation you have the virgin bride, the woman who gives birth, and the harlot, this is the progression that occurs, and if you are not among the faithful and the saints you are merely part of the woman that goes into harlotry.

Do You understand Prophecy? because this is what the Holy Ghost has shown me, not men, this is what he has taught me, not men, this is scripture interpreting scripture which is good exegesis if you know how to study scripture? Do You recognize prophecy or are you dull of hearing? do you hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches, or have you closed your ears to the truth, and heaped upon yourself teachers who speak smooth words?

Coming up out of the water sounds like immersion to me. Does it matter? Probably not because the water doesn't save anyway. But I think you're grasping at straws, trying to get sprinkling from scripture.
Nope, not trying to get sprinkling from Scripture. Just pointing out that Scripture doesn't say what you say.

BTW....I edited that post so I am not sure if you quoted me before I completed the edit....Mary
