Daniel's prophecy of the golden image and what it means to us today.

Daniel 3:4-5 Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up:

Six musical instruments. The king of Babylon is a type for Satan and here the contents of the verse is marked with his number, the number of the image (of the beast) he wants us to worship. And, the world does. It is interesting to see who some of the musical instruments are associated with as well as part of the makeup of the beast (iron and brass). The offspring of Cain....

Genesis 4:21-22 And his brother's name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. And Zillah, she also bare Tubalcain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubalcain was Naamah.

3:6-7 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of musick, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Now it has become...five musical instruments. The dulcimer is missing. It is described as, "A bagpipe with a double pipe."

Interesting! The bagpipe today is associated with Scotland. The Smith's Bible Dictionary tells us, "the same instrument is still in use amongst peasants in the northwest of Asia and in northern Europe." Is this another of the markers showing us the migration of the house of Israel as it was scattered by our Father over the Caucasus mountains, throughout Europe and on to Scotland?

The nations (Gentiles), as well as others, hear the six instruments and...they fall down and worship the beast. What of the three Hebrew children, who are symbolic of God's elect...those that don't worship the beast? The ommission of the dulcimer/bagpipe is a clue but I don't yet understand.

Any ideas?

I like this part

[sup]16[/sup] Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. [sup]17[/sup] If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. [sup]18[/sup] But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

Its something we need to remember in these days of Nebuchadnezzar, "anti-christ "
Note that God did not rapture them out, but protected them, the same was true for Noah and Lot.

Ezekiel [sup]7[/sup] “For thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I will bring against Tyre from the north Nebuchadnezzar[sup][a][/sup] king of Babylon, king of kings, with horses, with chariots, and with horsemen, and an army with many people. [sup]8[/sup] He will slay with the sword your daughter villages in the fields; he will heap up a siege mound against you, build a wall against you, and raise a defense against you. [sup]9[/sup] He will direct his battering rams against your walls, and with his axes he will break down your towers. [sup]10[/sup] Because of the abundance of his horses, their dust will cover you; your walls will shake at the noise of the horsemen, the wagons, and the chariots, when he enters your gates, as men enter a city that has been breached. [sup]11[/sup] With the hooves of his horses he will trample all your streets; he will slay your people by the sword, and your strong pillars will fall to the ground. [sup]12[/sup] They will plunder your riches and pillage your merchandise; they will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses; they will lay your stones, your timber, and your soil in the midst of the water. [sup]13[/sup] I will put an end to the sound of your songs, and the sound of your harps shall be heard no more. [sup]14[/sup] I will make you like the top of a rock; you shall be a place for spreading nets, and you shall never be rebuilt, for I the LORD have spoken,’ says the Lord GOD.

It would seem that Nebuchadnezzar fell into the same pit the king Tyre found himself in.

Isaiah 14
[sup]3[/sup] It shall come to pass in the day the LORD gives you rest from your sorrow, and from your fear and the hard bondage in which you were made to serve, [sup]4[/sup] that you will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say:

“ How the oppressor has ceased,
The golden[sup][a][/sup] city ceased!
[sup]5[/sup] The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked,
The scepter of the rulers;
[sup]6[/sup] He who struck the people in wrath with a continual stroke,
He who ruled the nations in anger,
Is persecuted and no one hinders.
[sup]7[/sup] The whole earth is at rest and quiet;
They break forth into singing.
[sup]8[/sup] Indeed the cypress trees rejoice over you,
And the cedars of Lebanon,
Saying, ‘Since you were cut down,
No woodsman has come up against us.’
[sup]9[/sup] “ Hell from beneath is excited about you,
To meet you at your coming;
It stirs up the dead for you,
All the chief ones of the earth;
It has raised up from their thrones
All the kings of the nations.
[sup]10[/sup] They all shall speak and say to you:

‘ Have you also become as weak as we?
Have you become like us?
[sup]11[/sup] Your pomp is brought down to Sheol,
And the sound of your stringed instruments;

The maggot is spread under you,
And worms cover you.’

Ezekiel 33
[sup]30[/sup] “As for you, son of man, the children of your people are talking about you beside the walls and in the doors of the houses; and they speak to one another, everyone saying to his brother, ‘Please come and hear what the word is that comes from the LORD.’ [sup]31[/sup] So they come to you as people do, they sit before you as My people, and they hear your words, but they do not do them; for with their mouth they show much love, but their hearts pursue their own gain. [sup]32[/sup] Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them. [sup]33[/sup] And when this comes to pass—surely it will come—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”

Most people would describe it's sound as shrill, to scare enemies in battle, not sweet as the name dulcimer suggests, so I'm not really convinced that the dulcimer is in fact a type of bagpipe, I prefer this.

This is a subtle, soft instrument that would not have been heard whan all the others were in action, that might explain why it is omitted.

Hello BritGuy and welcome to the forum. :)

Thank you for that link. It depicts what I always understood a dulcimer to be. I found the history and those it was attributed to very interesting.

However, in [Dan.3:4-5] we're told that the sound of the dulcimer will be heard with the other instruments. So I still must wonder...does it not being mentioned give us a clue or some connection to the Hebrew children?
