Just calling oneself Christian does not make it so.

The Bible defines a Christian as the name given by the Greeks or Romans, probably in reproach, to the followers of Jesus. It was first used at Antioch. The names by which the disciples were known among themselves were "brethren," "the faithful," "elect," "saints," "believers." But as distinguishing them from the multitude without, the name "Christian" came into use, and was universally accepted. This name occurs but three times in the New Testament ( Acts 11:26 ; 26:28 ; 1 Peter 4:16 ).

The secular world expands the definition to any group that calls itself Christian and is the main definition used in the world today.

A group that is devout to their doctrines and holy books that are contradictory to the Bible are called cults. But even on many forums it is a taboo to call such a group a cult.

The Bible warns us in these last days this would be a reality.

What say you?

We are also called "children of God," or "called and chosen." I'm sure there are others. The name "Christian" stuck because we embrace the idea that the world has of us as being "little Christs." We wear it like a badge of honor--at least, I do. Whether we are purely nominal Christians, who grew up in a Christian household, and don't hold to any religious values, or genuine Christians, the name "Christian" may apply to any who view themselves as such--even to irreligious people who identify with their birth religion.

We shouldn't be afraid to identify who is out of Christian character or those who are heterodox. If they belong to a group that views itself as an elite, and separates itself from other Christians, and holds to aberrant doctrines, we *must* call them a cult, because that's who they are.

The Scriptures identify such openly. Certainly Paul did. The Apostle John went to lengths to describe who they are, as "antichrists." So it would make no sense for us not to identify them when we see them.

A Christian is a "Christ-one" -- a disciple or follower of Christ -- but also a child of God through the New Birth.

From what I know , the early followers of Jesus were converted Jews. Their identities varied from that of disciple, to, student , which is what the title of disciple implies, to follower of the way.

But in the eyes of the world Cults are Christians and an obstacle to salvation of others. Why do some forums treat them as Christians?
I can't understand that either. Forums should clearly state that if you are are member of x, y, and z cults, this is not the forum for you. Since you will be in constant conflict with Christians.

A "Christian", loosely defined, is anyone who says to Jesus "Lord, Lord".

By that definition, not every Christian is going to heaven (Matthew 7:21).

Hi Core,
The cults have hijacked the term "Christian". If newbies come on the sites and get sucked into erroneous doctrine, I would hope and do pray they will have discernment. If someone is honestly seeking the True God and His Truth...they will find it but, yes it is a matter of concern.
