PS: @dhh712 I see you say you are from Gettysburg. Didn't President Eisenhower live in Gettysburg after leaving office? As regards the battle there (and the subsequent, famed Gettysburg address), the map shows that it's significantly north of the Mason-Dixon line: kind of shows I guess that at one point the balance between forces from north and south seemed to be close..

Yes, there is the Eisenhower house--it's actually called something else but I don't know what it is that's behind Confederate Ave.

Yes, the northern forces just had too much man-power and industrial strength for the South to win. It was a battle of attrition. The South really didn't have much of a chance, especially without foreign aide. The best they could have done was to free the slaves right at the beginning and hope France would join them, but they waited until it was too late to do that.
