The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

How does your picture prove that the Pope is elevated above God by Catholics? It doesn't.

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

Did a Catholic actually say this? Could Jesus be the "God on earth"? How about a Pagan God? Or...the anti-Christ? Or...your neighbor? Even if a Catholic wrote this, it doesn't mean that ALL Catholics--nor the Pope-- believes it. As a Catholic, *I* certainly don't believe it. Once again...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

Who is the "thou" that's being spoken of? Have you even read the History of the Councils? Have you read anything from this volume other than what you quoted in order to get the context of what was written...and WHY...and about WHOM? By the way...even if the quote was written about the Pope...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

The Catholic Church does NOT teach that the Pope is higher than God, nor does it hold the Pope on higher esteem than God in practice. Where in the world anti-Catholics get their false information from is beyond me.

Heads up: "RCC" = Roman Catholic Church.

What you bolded. 100%. I would love to expand on this, but I don't want to hijack this thread!

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

The problem *I* had with your post #535, is that you DID, in fact, target the Catholic Church. Your post (with bullets) didn't "expose" any "deficiencies" in the Catholic Church. In fact, much of what you wrote comes from your own personal opinion, isn't at all true. For example, you wrote...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

While the word "protest" is in scripture, the word "Protestant" is not. Plus, the verse you're using to defend your case (Jer 11:7) seems to be unique only to the KJV. Most other versions use the word "warn" or "testify"; not "protest".

And likewise...when you find the word "Protestant" in the Bible, let us know.

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

So, it seems that you do have your own 'pope'... named Martin Luther. Luther, who absolutely despised the Jews that he called for the burning of their synagogues, prayerbooks, artifacts and basically wanted them exterminated from civilization. Luther, who changed the wording of Romans 3:28 by...

Cassandra, I want to ask you: Do you believe that NO form of artwork should be in churches?

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

Well...there's no mention of laptops and computers in Scripture...or cars...or utensils for eating...or toilet paper...or microwaves...or sneakers...or parka's...or cell phones...or television and radio...the list goes on. So, by your 'logic', you should pay heed to what's in Scriptures...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

Since when does having statutes and/or pictures of martyrs and/or saints in church mean that Jesus is NOT the focus? If you have pictures of your children/family/friends/pets on your desk at work, does that mean that your focus isn't on your job?

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

    1. Absence of evidence is NOT evidence of absence. 2. Just a reminder: "Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God and that through this belief...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

O.k. Yes, it is Christ Jesus' Church. I say "the" church because I believe that Christ meant to set up ONE church...which was HIS church. The idea that it's Christ's church TO ME, is automatically understood...by me (and, the RCC). Definition of "holy": Dedicated or consecrated to God...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

@Illuminator Just to add a little to your eloquent post, even JESUS didn't SOLELY rely on scripture for his teaching.

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

I agree with most of what you wrote ^. O.k.... Our church is not upon "one man". It's upon Jesus. That's stressed in my Catholic Bible over and over again. Christ is THE Head of the church. Not "my" church. Not "your" church, but THE church. How in the world do you know this? Yes, the...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

You seem to misunderstand Matthew 16:17-19. "When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets." He said to them, But...

The Biblical Basis for Catholic Distinctives

Having recently picked up a KJV version of the bible, those books were not in that particular bible. Also, have heard from others on other forums that those books were not in their bible's either. So, I'm not completely off-base. If they're in *your* bible, then kudos to you! I only gave...
