We are judged by works, not by faith

Hey mailmandan, I think you are saying that when a man has faith in Christ, he will do good works. However, if a man only has "rightly understood" faith, they will still be saved. Respectfully Mary

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

    Well put. Thank you!

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Nope, not claiming that at all. Preaching (revealing/telling the Truth) to non-Christians is not a heretical act. It would be heretical to the adherents of Buddhism, but not heretical to God.

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Steven, The Truth is determined by the Church which is the pillar and foundation of Truth. Thank you for your opinion. I did not narrow the definition. I expanded it. What I have presented is not a Catholic definition. It is a dictionary definition.

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Oh goodness......Steven, Steven, Steven! In the case of the Eunuch, it literally says they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch! Does it say anything about anyone else being around? Or is your argument that they were outside along a public road so there could have been other...

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Nope, not true. Look the word up instead of giving your opinion: Heresy: an opinion, doctrine, or practice contrary to the truth https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/heresy

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Steven, You have narrowed the definition of heresy to Jesus being heretical because he disagreed with Jewish dogma. I have agreed with your narrow definition of the word heresy! QUOTE FROME ME in post #112: YES Jesus was a heretic. I then broadened the discussion by rightfully pointing out...

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Nope, I look at ALL definitions of heresy instead of narrowly defining it! Heresy (or to be heretical) is also adherence to a religious opinion contrary to church dogma. Since Jesus was 'the church' he couldn't hold an opinion opposite of the church. Does that help you get the gist of what I...

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Lol....No Steven, I am not one of those women. If you look back thru my previous posts, you will see that I apologize when I am wrong and will let you know if you "win". My point about the Trinity is that it is a term, or a single word, to sum up the 3 persons (entities) spoken of throughout...

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

He Steven, I get the gist of what you are saying. Anyone that teaches opposite of orthodox teaching (or the status quo teaching) then they are heretical. Based on that narrow definition of heresy, YES Jesus was a heretic. But you are not looking at the entire definition of heresy. Heresy is...

We are judged by works, not by faith

Your men have lied to you. Scripture has OTHER instructions on how to be saved, including works:  confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the...

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Jesus could not be heretical therefore whatever he taught was not heresy.

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

The Apostles were teaching what Jesus taught them. Was Jesus teaching heresy? Curious Mary

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

36 And as they were going along the road they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “See, here is water! What prevents me from being baptized?”[a] 38 And he commanded the chariot to stop, and they both went down into the water, Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him. Then Ananias went to...

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

He Steven, The Trinity is the term employed to signify the central doctrine of the Christian religion—the truth that in the unity of the Godhead there are Three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, these Three Persons being truly distinct one from another. That term is derived...

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Nope, I do not misunderstand. Jesus teaching was the Truth. The Jews rejected the Truth therefor they were heretical.
  17. Marymog

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

No, the Apostles were not teaching heresy. They were teaching what Christ taught them. Were the teachings of Christ heretical (opposite of the teaching of God)?

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Any teaching opposite of the Catholic Magisterium. Perspectives don't matter. Only the Truth does. No, both do not agree on infant baptism. Although some Protestants practice infant baptism.

Was Jesus Heretical? - Why did they crucify Him?

Hey Steven, The Apostles were not teaching heresy, they were teaching the Truth. That made them the "status quo" in their time. Anyone that taught opposite of them, or opposite of the status quo, was a false teacher. Therefor being "heretical" DOES have something "to do with true or false"...

    Tradition Versus Scripture

I noticed. Scripture is dogmatic though.
