Understanding what the Bible says is an intellectual activity and not an emotional one. Having understood what it says and what it means to one, might cause an emotional reaction, but Christianity is first and foremost something that is understood and never ever just an emotional feeling.

It comes from when everyone was at last nominally 'christian' and because that was believed of everyone, hen what Jesus said to the repentant thief, " today you will be with Me" it is assumed that is true of all Christians.
