Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

Dave, we both know where it goes: I value truth presented with love & kindness, acknowledging & respecting other people even when there's disagreement about beliefs. You value truth presented with the tactfulness of a charging bull. We're just going to disagree with this, and have both been...

Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

It is entirely possible for a person to be a jerk whether or not others take offense.

Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

I actually agree with that statement :)

Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

If you believe that God's words are defined as a listed of 66 books (a list which ironically is not found in those books), I certainly acknowledge that. But I don't see this as being a salvation-relating matter or one to be a jerk about. That's what I was saying.

Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

I do think it's very important to say though. We humans can be very argumentative. But it's important to remember the grand scheme of things, what points are directly relate to salvation, and which do not. Otherwise we easily can fall into the trap of arguing endlessly over non-salvation and...

Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

David, do you believe that a person's salvation is dependent on them reciting books of scripture being defined as <insert list here> and none other?

Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

I'd beg to differ ;) God & His influence are not confined to just one group, even when us idiot humans can't keep things straight.

Should the books of the bible been more like 77?

Ultimately there's only a few epistemological methods out there: - "I believe X because that's what <insert human authority figure here> told me so" - "I believe X because that's what after consulting God & scripture that's what I've come to believing to be true" - "I believe X because that's...

    Halloween Street Preaching

You an I obviously disagree on some major fundamentals here. As I've said many times, I don't advocated denying God's justice. I do advocate against fear-based evenglisms because you can't threaten/beat someone into a loving relationship.

Prayer Warrior, let me know if you actually want to talk about this.

But must we threaten people and be focused on fear? Or shall we be focused on walking & dancing with Him? I know our answers differ greatly on that, and I don't see much benefit in continuing to re-state our positions.

Threatening a person doesn't make them a real disciple of Christ. Sure, you can threaten a person to make them do something, that's relatively easy, which is why people do it. But not real discipleship.

A punishiment-centeric message is fear based and threatening a person, whether or not you realize it.

    Halloween Street Preaching

You can't threaten somebody into loving Christ. You just can't.

    Halloween Street Preaching

I do. You can NOT beat or threaten a person into becoming a disciple of Christ. Discipleship must be driven by love and a relationship.

If this thing more fear-based evangelism? Or another example of evenlgism via bad information? (it could be neither, but I am admittedly skeptical).

    Halloween Street Preaching

He didn't make a single real disciple of Christ. Not one.
  18. J

    Halloween Street Preaching

Again, as long as your central message/moitvator is focused on threats/punishment, then that's based in fear and doesn't make disciples of Christ.

    Halloween Street Preaching

I 100% agree you can't beat/threaten someone into being a disciple of Christ. Which is why fear-based evangelism does not make disciples of Christ, and while such methods (including street searching, burning analogies, cliff analogies, etc) do not work and I advocate against them.

    Halloween Street Preaching

If I were to blatantly threaten until they recited a Sinner's Prayer, am I doing the Lord's work? If I were to subtly threaten until they recited a Sinner's Prayer, am I doing the Lord's work? Using fear-based evangelism is threatening.
