The Source of Unity is Christ

I agree with most of the OP. I would add this: Where there are sins, there are also divisions, schisms, heresies, and disputes. Where there is virtue, however, there also are harmony and unity, from which arise the one heart and one soul of all believers. Origen, Hom. in Ezech. 9,1:PG 13,732.

    FIVE STAGES OF PERSECUTION

"It is rare that a respected segment of American life would become vilified and hated overnight. The usual transformation from respect to vilification goes in stages which grow in intensity. And hereby the Church, once a respected aspect of American life, along with the Protestant denominations...

Error and Contradictions in the Bible

There is no mention of horses in the entire chapter of 1 Kings 14. The latter verse having more detail does not mean it is a contradiction. The context of belief, that Jesus will be raised up after 3 days, remains intact in Mark 8:31. The "sign of Jonah" foreshadows Jesus in the tomb for 3 days.

Not many will make it through the GREAT TRIBULATION. Because of no faith.

Oh boy. Let's all bellyache over the sins of our forefathers 500 years ago. Nobody has ever been killed for refusing to recognize the Pope. St. Joan of Arc was killed too, a story you should read about if you want to talk about 15th century France. The Protestant Inquisition didn't bother...

    The truth of the scriptures

2Pet 1:19 (NIV) And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Rev 2:28 (NIV) I will also give him the morning star. Rev 22:16 (NIV) "I...

    Sin and nature of Sin

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit share the same divine substance. The human family is the closest analogy that mankind will ever come to concretely understanding the Blessed Trinity. The creeds teach that while there is one God, He exists in three distinct persons. The bible, on the other hand...

Not many will make it through the GREAT TRIBULATION. Because of no faith.

Postmillennialism was popular with nineteenth-century Protestants, when progress was expected even in religion and before twentieth-century horrors were tasted. Today few hold to it, except such groups as Christian Reconstructionists, an outgrowth of the conservative Presbyterian movement. The...

    St. Francis of Assisi

I was invested into the Third Order in 1977, but it's been years since I've said my office. There is a Third Order meeting in a neighboring city, but I can't get there. I am anxious to start saying my office again. I have written to them to start a group in my own city, and I am waiting to hear...

Christ's Christianity and Paul's Christianity are Not the Same

If one can successfully argue that Paul was some kind of spiritual "Lone Ranger" then you can pit the Bible against the Church. This doesn't work. In his very conversion experience, Jesus informed Paul that he would be told what to do (Acts 9:6; cf. 9:17). He went to see St. Peter in Jerusalem...

Christ's Christianity and Paul's Christianity are Not the Same

"this teaching" refers to the Gnostics. There was no dispute with the Apostles. Some of them had infiltrated the Christian community. They "forbid marriage": because they believed the flesh was evil. They "abstained from meats" because they thought the food itself was evil. John writes about...

The Church is Not the Source of Truth

What the Church taught and what was believed about the Holy Spirit in the 4rth century is still taught and believed today. I'll go with consistency. "The Holy Spirit has been in some ways the neglected person of the Blessed Trinity. A clear understanding of the Spirit almost seems beyond our...
