What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

I don't consider referring to the original Greek as taking things out of context. Just as matter of interest, have you done an in depth study of the New Testament Church?

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

I could not be more specific that to give you all the verses that spoke of Elders in the New Testament Church context which is the period that I was studying. When a writer is studying the book of Acts say, they don't usually add a commentary on the book of Job.

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

I did not take the word apostle in the gospels out of context because my study did not include the 12 apostles in the gospels as that period was prechurch. My study was during the New Testament Church period.

Why are you afraid to answer the question?

Headship, Submission and Women in Ministry

You are not going against the context Wormwood. You are stating the context which other refuse to admit to because they want to push a certain barrow. The feminist spirit is very alive and well in the church.

Headship, Submission and Women in Ministry

And who is to say what teaching is sound. I have been told many times that empty vessels make the most sound. Many years ago the Brethren eschewed the gifts of the spirit as they considered the teaching wasn't "sound." In the Charismatic renewal in the 60s in the UK, they were in the forefront...

Headship, Submission and Women in Ministry

Thankyou Wormwood. Nice to see that there is someone else who is not pushing a barrow and ignoring context.

I noticed that you did not call Barrd's list a red herring. I wonder why? ESpecially as she did not discuss anything.

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

I am not sure what you mean by this statement but I do not think that I have ever said that Jesus did not give those ministries to the church. What I have said elsewhere is that one of the reasons why the church is so weak is that they do not acknowledge all five ministries. In many case one man...

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

I don't consider being part of the Brethren, Baptist, Methodist, Anglican, Charismatic, Pentecostal and Nondenominational as being in one type of setting. The other thing about the Bible College I attended there were students from all sorts of denominations so I was exposed to all sorts of...

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

My experience was based on attendance at Brethren Churches, Baptist, Methodist, Charismatic, Anglican, Pentecostal, Non Denominational and reading over 40 books on the subject of the church. I have never attended or been involved in the Mormon church so I cannot give any view as to their...

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

If you read what I said, you will see that I stated that my involvement was with the Brethren AND pastor led churches AND I have read over 40 books on the subject. I did not come to any conclusion based solely on "I".

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

Act_14:23 And having handpicked elders for them in every assembly, having prayed with fastings, they committed them to the Lord into whom they had believed. Act_15:2 Then dissension and not a little disputation with them having taken place by Paul and Barnabas, they appointed Paul and...

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

No they were not as the Elders in the gospels were usually referred to in regards to the Jewish religion which I was not studying.

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

The word apostle is recorded eight times in the gospels and every one refers to the 12 that Jesus chose to follow him. My study was in the context of the church as I indicated and in that context it was Paul as apostle, a ministry not a title. If I was studying the ministry of the apostle as a...

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

What do you mean by "stating this?" Abstracts are difficult for autistic people to understand.

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

One. I read the whole of the New Testament and checked specific words in Greek. Two. I read over 40 books on the subject. The author was irrelevant. If the book has the word "Church" in it I read it. This gave me a very wide ranging understanding of what other people thought. Three. I...

What makes any given branch of Christianity an authority over my life?

Would that include spending millions on buildings which you have no problem with?
