For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

Congratulations! You have found a Bible contradiction! Unless there are two types of tongues. Or, unless (I was confused for a moment because you misquoted it; it actually says no one understands him in 1 Corinthians 14:2) no one understands him because no one is present in that church setting...

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

I give references, not quotes; it is my style based on Proverbs 12:23 and Proverbs 15:7.

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

That's not what the scripture says. It says that every man heard them in his own tongue. They were surprised because they knew they were Galileans and couldn't have been speaking in their tongues in the natural. They weren't speaking in Galilean and everyone heard them in their own language...

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

They believed as a result of the preaching, which took place after the incident of them hearing the believers speak in tongues No, it is not hypothesis that I am presenting to you. It is understanding. And I nearly always reference the quotes from where my understanding comes; so what is...

They were cut to the heart, in distress for their souls; and this motivated them to stay put.

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

They were pricked to the heart, which indicates that they were convicted by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit convicts unbelievers (John 16:8-9).

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

I can't resist this one...it was the people who were speaking in tongues on that day who had received the Holy Ghost for the first time dwelling in the upper room....those who heard them were not among them and therefore could not have had the gift of interpretation, since that was the first day...

Then maybe division in the church is ordained by God. (since this was a different subject I felt liberty to comment).

I am bowing out of this conversation.

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

Of course, there were approximately 13 different languages counted that the people were speaking in on the day of Pentecost.

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

Suffice it to end with this: no one is going to convince me to stop praying in my own prayer language because I am commanded in scripture to continue in it.

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

If anyone speaks in an unknown tongue, he edifies himself. re #423, #425. But I am getting tired of arguing. There will always be division in the church, is my conclusion; because some people are simply stubborn and do not want to see it the way the word of the Lord declares it. And also...

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

Like I said, some who believe that they have the gift of interpretation in all reality do not. The real acid test of whether tongues are valid is if they are of the type spoken of in Acts of the Apostles 2:7-11 and if there is a repeat in modern circumstance of that kind of happening. And I...

I believe there is solid proof. But then again, I am faithful to my wife.

For those who don't believe in prophets today....explain this

I believe that the interpretation is indeed valid (therefore it does pan out to a certain extent).
