Genesis 1 is screwing you up. You're taking a single event that is NOT THE NORM and projecting it onto ALL of creation. (Well... you're not the only one). In your experience, has God ever created any fully-grown, mentally-developed, mature, stable individuals? No. We all start out as babies...

Interesting that the Bible is "the Word of God", unless someone quotes a translation you disagree with.

You remember those deuterocanonical books that nobody reads? 2 Maccabees Chapter 12: 38 Judas [Maccabeus] took his army and came into the city of Adullam. When the seventh day arrived, they purified themselves according to custom and observed the Sabbath. 39 On the next day, it was necessary...

I seem to have inadvertently opened a Pandora's box. Sorry to all.

Yes. As a species, we seem to be very fond of murder.

Human perversity comes from humans. The devil didn't make you do it.

Do the Law Preachers Here Get Circumcised as the Law Commands?

I reckon that for most men, that decision is made by their parents when they are a wee baby.

How about a Muslim, or a Buddhist? That probably doesn't come up much... How about Mormons? The LDS church has been one of the best at preserving and translating historical texts.

Interesting that the Bible is "the Word of God", unless someone quotes a translation you disagree with.

I do discriminate between translations. Not all translations are equal. I much prefer word-for-word translations (formal) to thought-for-thought translations (dynamic), and I put both of those ahead of paraphrases. If you want to look at the original language in a concordance or lexicon, it's...

Where does invisible come from? Where does curved come from? How about shiny? If you said that none of those questions make any sense, then you're correct. Likewise, "where does evil come from" is a non-sequitur. Evil is an adjective, not a noun. I suppose you can use it as a noun, but...

Seeking Justice - Hiding in Translation - The Righteousness Connection

This aligns better with Jewish thinking, where a positive command ('do this') is always more important than a negative one ('thou shalt not').

Does God care more for himself than he cares for us?

Definitely not. Mercy is for the condemned. The justified do not need mercy - they have been judged to be in the right.

Does God care more for himself than he cares for us?

It's an interesting article. Something it brings up that I had forgotten... the New Testament translates κρίμα as "justice" while the Old Testament (LXX) has that word down as "judgment." This is an example of the biggest problem of the King James Bible - its OT translators didn't talk to its...

Does God care more for himself than he cares for us?

Resources... not anymore. I used to have a sermon on this, and a .doc of a word study contrasting words for judgment (מִשְׁפָּט /κρίμα) and justice (צְדָקָה/δικαιοσύνη). The PC those were on died and I don't even know where the thumb drive I put that stuff on is at. Have no plans to preach in...

If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can move the mountain. Really?

In the OTHER passage of Scripture that mentions mustard seeds, the point of them is that they grow from the tiniest seed to the largest tree. Can your faith do that?

    God made evil ( proof)

Evil is an adjective that describes our opinion or judgment of things. It's not a noun. You can't go to the grocer and buy a pound of evil. Neither is it possible that God or anyone else creates evil the way you've contended here. We do things. Our actions may be adjudicated as evil. But...

Does God care more for himself than he cares for us?

Blame the English teachers. The word justice has changed meaning so much that it now means precisely the opposite of what it used to. The Hebrew and Greek words that are translated 'justice' in most Bibles actually mean 'righteousness' and 'to judge in favor of someone.' In the 17th-18th...

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

My understanding of the dowry was that it was meant to help the young couple start their life together - it provided a financial cushion for the groom while he went and (literally) built a home. But it probably depends to some extent on the social status of the two families, and the other terms...

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

As nearly as I can tell, the Old Testament regulations surrounding divorce are set up to prevent men from committing dowry fraud - that is, marrying a woman, collecting her dowry, then divorcing her after a short while to go and find a new bride with a new dowry to spend. There are no dowries...

Did Jesus say that adultery is grounds for divorce? - Nope.

I'm afraid I might still be hung up on word definitions. Do you suppose that the meaning of adultery today is the same as it was in Jesus' day? How about in Moses day? I don't think that it is. To my eyes, the 7th Commandment is a prohibition for the Israelites from mixing races with the...
