    Should I buy a sword?

I have heard it said that the word for sword here (machaira) is more like a large knife which is sometimes used for butchering animals. Some have suggested that since Jesus was leaving them He was telling them they would now have to provide for themselves. What do you think of that idea? And...

    Should I buy a sword?

You make a very good point ... though I am pretty sure I would use physical force to protect my family if someone was attacking them. Peter thought he was protecting Jesus ... but of course we know that Jesus understood God's plan for Him to die. Is the equivalent of a sword these days a gun...

    Should I buy a sword?

Yes, that is interesting. I have always thought that Romans 13:4 authorizes government agencies like the police & military to use physical force, and even kill if necessary. Do you think Jesus was telling the disciples to get a sword for their personal protection?

    Should I buy a sword?

Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. Mat 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish...

    The t.r.u.m.p ignorantly speaks Scripture

    I never trust anonymous "sources".

    What if?

I am sorry your experience has been less than ideal ... I feel like that sometimes when I listen to the news too much ... but the small circle I move in is very supportive and generous. Even with strangers, I seem to get treated very well ... my daughter reckons its because I am an old man and...

What Are You Up To Today?

I think NZ gets colder than here ... 8-18 degrees today ... that's about average for winter here. I had family living in Gisborne for some time ... are you anywhere near there? Every photo they sent us was like a post card ... so beautiful.

What Bible Translation do you think is the best?

The KJV language can be a bit difficult for those who are not raised on it. The thee's & thine's actually serve a helpful purpose ... all the "th" pronouns are singular ... all the "y" ones (you, your, yours) are plural. You can see how it works here (Luke 22:31-32): And the Lord said, Simon...

Attending International churches using the internet

I live in Western Australia and "attend" a church in Phoenix, Arizona ... 10 am Monday here is 7pm Sunday there so it is a live stream. Having some email contact with a couple of members has made it a very rewarding experience.

What Bible Translation do you think is the best?

Jesus was quoting Deuteronomy 8:3 so it seems more likely to me that the manuscripts which included "every word of God" in Luke 4:4 are the more reliable. KJV: And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that...

What Bible Translation do you think is the best?

It is ironic that the ESV (and other newer translations) omit "every word of God" from Luke 4:4 ESV: And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone." KJV: And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of...

Acts 2:38 applies today but not 44 &45

Bonhoeffer called that "costly grace". By "cheap grace" he was referring to churches that do not teach sanctification (holy living).

Acts 2:38 applies today but not 44 &45

It sounds to me like you may be talking about what Bonhoeffer called "cheap grace".

A PREPARATION DAY IS NOT JUST THE FRIDAY BEFORE THE SATURDAY SABBATH

Have you considered how the Jewish feasts foreshadowed the timing of Jesus' death & resurrection? There is a very good Youtube video called "EVERY FEAST OF ISRAEL EXPLAINED: THE PROPHETIC CALENDAR GOD BUILT AROUND JESUS"

THAT DAY AND HOUR NO ONE KNOWS.

I agree with the understanding that Jesus was answerung 3 different questions in Matthew 24. What do you understand the "end of the age" to be?

    The Chosen

In the NT, the word sleep is used for "taking of rest in sleep" as well as those who "sleep in Jesus" and the "dead in Christ". John 11:11-14 These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. Then said his...

THAT DAY AND HOUR NO ONE KNOWS.

Mark 13 connects "that day and that hour" to the parable of the man taking a far journey: But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is. For the Son of man is...

    The Chosen

It sounds like you know everything there is to know about life in the 4,000+ years covered in the Bible ... I am 80 and still learning. A personal relationship is based on love ... and love means you are interested in everything about the other one.

    The Chosen

Yes, the Scriptures are all we need for salvation. I do not like any movies or documentaries that do not portray the Bible text accurately. However, I enjoy watching videos that re-create Bible times - I saw one recently that portrayed the village of Nazareth. It actually helps to understand...
