All Christians traverse through the same conformation progressions, because it is the same Spirit working in them the same life of the Lord Jesus (Col 3:4). The desire to please the Lord is a two-fold progression which usually begins with our service to Him, and then we learn the superior significance of the other, which is our place in Him. When we finally learn that the latter is always of first importance, it is then we grow in the conformity, which in turn provides a greater effect in our service to Him.

The best depiction of this is disclosed by the Lord Jesus in Luke 10:38-42 where He told Martha she was, “worried and troubled about many things” (v 41), which were probably due to wondering if her service would be sufficient enough to please Him, in which case she is more concerned with how she thinks the Lord will consider her, instead of how He thinks He considers her. In Christianity growth is not how one considers self in Christ by service (which definitely has its place). It is not how one considerers self at all but rather how one considers Christ and our place with Him (Col 3:3), and when this is predominant to service, then will service increase, because there is the increase in our “being conformed” (Rom 8:29) when we come from Christ and then to service (not the invert).

When we are beholding the Lord Jesus by thinking on how He considers us (always goodness) more than how we consider ourselves, we can apply His command of “let not your heart be troubled” (John 14:1) towards all things. Fruitful service is always finalized by the peace it brings in knowing the believer will always be right with God in Christ, regardless the tempest outside, and the tempting and testings of the “old man” inside.

It could be said she was worried about efficiently feeding the men in the house...an admin duty we must take seriously if we were given this responsibility...

...but and yet a consideration which the disciples of Christ and Christ himself did not take so serious. Eating 'corn' or 'wheat kernels' on the Sabbath proves it; they did not live like normal men and even the food which fed them was not their primary consideration. See us as men trying to conform to this...in the military or on a field trip, or going to Jerusalem and seeing the Holy sites...what would be OUR primary consideration, I would guess it is in this order: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Hopefully with seafood entrees maybe even crab legs...prime rib steak could be a good starter...

She Mary chose the best part. But she Mary did not have the responsibility from God to admin the men. I would guess she was the little sister who could not stay away from the presence of her Lord. This truly would be the BEST PART for those with eyes to see.

And Martha too was a faithful disciple. Maybe she worried too much. So do we, and our flesh together. Just to be honest.

It is true that there is no approval in self, if one seeks the will of God which in the Lord Jesus, hence "Lord". The approval of the Father is in the Son, hence the need for us to be focused on the Lord Jesus Christ. How did Apostle John say it:
1Jn:3:1: Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2: Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Hence the more one looks to the Lord Jesus the more like Him one becomes and is the approval of the Father in His Beloved Son for all. Until the day we see Him and like Him we will be.

Hi NH - Myself, I believe Jesus was alone with the two sisters which allowed Mary time to be with Jesus. What Martha was doing wasn't wrong, it was just out of a lesser motive than why Mary was doing what she was doing, which was better.

Good word DPM - The overall Christian theme in all things is, "Not I but Christ" (Gal 2:20), which causes us to remember to maintain focus, not on self, but on Christ, in all of our walk.

That may be so, but the deception I find many times is, the seeking of the approval of others as self serving, and those who would seek to make their approval of others important to those they would give their approval to, as also self serving.

The promotion of one’s own kind is self serving. The promotion of those who show the Ways of Christ is God serving. He who walks in God’s Ways and God shows that He is with him is approved by God. As would others who have the same. Hence all who have this, walk in a approval that is mutual. In that each agree that it is the Lord’s approval that is to be met, and walk in a mutual approval of the same, in and of each other.

Therefore not a approval of one another, but a agreed approval of and in Christ.

Hi DM - There is some good instruction in what you've indicated, and the proper approval can only come from God, and Godly men who know to avoid improper approval.

"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men" (Rom 14:17, 18).
