A Supreme win for school choice

June 21, 2022

In a win for parents and school-choice advocates, the US Supreme Court overturned a Maine law Tuesday that denied religious schools access to state tuition assistance available to students attending secular private institutions.

Maine created the program to give options to kids living in areas without public schools — but excluded faith-based institutions from those options.

The high court ruled 6-3 that the prohibition “penalizes the free exercise” of religion in Maine by excluding “otherwise eligible schools on the basis of their religious exercise.” In other words, discriminating against all religious education is discriminating against religion, period.

I live in Maine. There are a LOT or very rural areas where it's miles and miles before you come to the nearest town.
A lot of these little towns only have a catholic school or a charter school. Some have no schools at all.
The other morning on C-Span, Washington Journal, they had a man on talking about this very subject.
Washington Journal is a platform where people can call in with their comments or questions.
Some people were for, some people were against.
I think the ones against it were concerned about, if the school recieves tuition assistance, than that would give the state more authority over the school's curriculum. Some were concerned that "new" schools of whatever "religion" they invented would pop up simply for this benefit.
Other's believed it was a good idea, because many children in rural areas have no access to the bigger schools that would receive this.

I found it, incase you may be interested in hearing the discussions:

yep glad to see this happen

Yes, the American left has won so many battles in the social and cultural arena that I think it is a breath of fresh air that the other side for once has finally won a battle. Besides, even from a non-religious viewpoint, Roe v. Wade was on very shaky legal grounds at best, even liberal judges have mentioned their discomfort with the ruling in the past.

Supreme Court ruled today on 2 issues.
Religious Freedom meaning you can't be coerced into producing things for people that goes against your core beliefs.
and
Excutive Branch overreaching the Constitution requiring people to pay other people's college tuition. Loan Forgiveness.
Yesterday they ruled against affirmative action in colleges. You can't decide who gets in based on race.

We need smaller government.
You don't want to put dildo's on a wedding cake or create an invitation for a gay marriage. You shouldn't have to.
There are many baker's and website designers out there probably willing to do so, but you shouldn't be forced into it.

If you choose to go to college and take out a loan, you should read the small print and be willing to pay it back. ( I did)

And no one should be graded or accepted for the color of their skin, but rather based on merit and the character of a person.

People need to be be more responsible about themselves and less demanding of other people.

Everyone should pay their fair share and no one should be above the law.
(Right Hunter? )

SCOTUS has left the building and will be back in the fall.
Enjoy your summer, no doubt it will be hot.

Imagine that.

SCOTUS decides years ago that a baker doesn’t have to bake a cake for a gay couple. Today they say a web designer doesn’t have design web page for a gay customer. Any change? Anything different?

The Supreme Court never actually ruled in the broad sense regarding the cake baker in Colorado, it was a ruling where the State of Colorado messed up on their filing

It appears this puts the "icing on the cake" for the baker in Colorado, who has been taken to court like 3-4 times by progressive liberals over the past six years, that guy is a true American Hero!

We've fought 2 wars in this country on this land. The Revolutionary war and the Civil war.
Both wars were faught for freedom.
We haven't truly acheived that ideal yet.
The Revoltionary war was about getting free from the dictatorship and monarchy of the King of England.
We faught the British Army who outnumbered us and we won.
Star Spangled Banner
The Civil war was a combination of States rights and the abolishment of slavery.
Even though we passed laws to create equal justice under the law, we still haven't reached the goal.
Prejudice and bias can't be removed by legislation, it has to be removed from the heart.
Just like passing gun laws won't prevent criminals from using guns to kill people.

Creating new laws to control peoples feelings and beliefs is futile.
You can not legislate greed out of people.
We can only legislate laws that make it a crime to use other people for ones own benefit.
And I hate to be the one to tell you this folks, but none of us is free in this world.
The only true privledged people are those that hold the power and the money.
We are simply good consumers of their goods which makes them more rich and powerful.

They want us to believe it's about skin color or gender or religion. The more we fight the less we are looking at the root cause of the problem.
No, this war is different. It's not about guns and chains that you use against people. It's the weapons used against our beliefs, commonsense, equality and justice.
They make you believe that you are different, you are hated, you are superior, the other guy is against you even when their not.
They deliberatly force on people things they know go against their morals and their principles simply to cause division.

It takes 3 generations to destroy a civiliazation. We are the last in this age or era.
The world is changing... again.
In the days of Noah the world was in chaos, everyone was doing their own thing, killing an being killed. Evil ruled.
In the days of Abraham that part of the world he lived in was doing their thing, Sodom got destroyed.
In the days of Moses it was Egypts turn because of their greed and slavery. They would not let God's people go free.
Then their was Babylon and Rome.
As the world turns.

I don't know if you all noticed but France is on fire. Switzerland and Sweden are having a hard time with immigrants.
Africa is in the middle of a civil war and Israel and Palestine are at it again.
The US is being invaded and it won't be long before we look like France.
It's coming, and no laws we create are going to stop it.
Only a change of heart. And only the Lord can do that.
So Pray. Pray for an easy transition into this new world we're coming into.
It will be better than the one we have now. But folks, we have to go through hell before we get to heaven.
So just hang on and stay faithful.
Hugs
