Woman says she had near-death experienceWeb Posted: 10/19/2007 09:26 PM CDTLed CannonKENS 5 Eyewitness News Death is not something many people want to talk about, let alone experience. But at least eight million Americans claim they have had near-death experiences. Mary Jo Rapini is addicted to running. She has run marathons, even a 100-mile race. But four years ago the running stopped. This wife and mother of two nearly died. She was living in Lubbock, lifting weights in the gym, when she heard something pop in her head. “It just hurt so bad,” Rapini said. “You know I gave birth, I ran a hundred miles, I’ve suffered pain. I never had anything like this.” Rapini had had an aneurysm. An artery in her brain had burst. Doctors said she had a 50-50 chance of survival. The operation lasted eight hours, and she lived to talk about it. But she believes the real miracle happened the night before surgery. Drifting in and out of consciousness, she says she suddenly saw a light that surrounded her and gave her a feeling of warmth. “It was so loving; it was so loving,” she said. She was having a near-death experience. “Then I came out and there was this incredible room, and it was brilliant and light, and something was holding me,” Rapini said. She says the light was a shade of pink, and she believes she was being held by God, and he talked to her. “He said, ‘Let me ask you a question, have you ever loved anyone the way you have been loved here in the hospital?’” Rapini said. “’No, have you ever loved anyone the way you have been loved in this place?’” She was so moved, she decided to put in into words. She put it in a book called, “Is God Pink? Dying to Heal.” “Was this a religious encounter? No, I believe but am not religious,” she said. “This was an encounter with my God.”

Pink---- I wonder if Jayne Mansfield persuaded God to adopt that color (her favorite color)?

I don't know. Maybe God is supporting the fight against breast cancer? Although He could get rid of it from just coughing His holiness on the earth

So many people talk about near death experiences these days that it's hard to separate truth from fiction. Like rock stars, selling an image, who will tell fantastic stories that are intended to leave their fans in awe. Even at church, when there is a worldly spirit within, some will compete for the next great experience to show off their "spiritual superiority" and fabricate stories like this. If you want to cut through the bull, talk to a Hospice nurse. They see people die every day. I was told by more than one of them that people die behaving in one of two extremes, in complete fear, or complete peace, and not many in betweens. One nurse told me about a boy who couldn't even move because he had severe burns all over his body, but when he was taking his last breath, he sat up looking and reaching forward as if he was seeing something or someone, not showing fear or pain. She told me many similar stories. On the flip side, I was told that some people die in complete fear, not so much because they are losing their life, but because they too are seeing something. I don't know if what they are seeing makes them realise all at once that there is a God and as a result, there will be a judgment, or maybe it's that angels as described in the bible would be very scary to look at for someone who doesn't know what they look like. I would encourage anyone who has the chance to talk to a hospice nurse about these things. Many of them will tell you right out front that they don't believe in God, "but something else is happening", and they can't deny it. Those dying are seeing something. The reaction of those dieing as described by the hospice nurses doesn't match up with some of the stories that you hear of "near death experiences". I think that too many times people just say those things for attention or money. Having said that, it's important to note that studies have shown that many people who have had authentic near death experiences, usually as a result begin seeking God afterwards. It's also common for those who have genuinely experienced this, and who have feared death in the past, to lose their fear of death completely afterwards. Just some random thoughts to ponder...

Jayne's buried about 17 miles due north of me in Pen Argyl where I once had a cabin as a kid in that area, so I stop by once in awhile. Her family has roots in this area and found out about her doing my genealogy studies. So, it's more of a family feeling rather than any love for her as a star. However, in real life she was a very nice person, and so was her family.
