I was a sign first to the Jews and also it was a prophetic event signifying that Jesus would be not seen for three days. A day, as Peter states, is as a thousand years. So prophetically it was signifying that Jesus would not be seen for three thousand years. The Jews will see Jesus and accept Him at the end of the Millennium.
