Romans 9:6-16, Paul is putting God’s sovereignty front and center, salvation is not something humans earn or achieve, it is a gift that flows from God’s mercy and God is free to give that mercy as he chooses. Romans 9:30-32, the problem was not with God, the problem was Israel’s approach, Romans 10:2-4. Jesus Christ is the culmination of the law, so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. Israel was sincere, they were passionate, but sincerity alone is not enough if you are headed in the wrong direction. They were trying to build their own righteousness, instead of accepting the righteousness God is offering through Jesus Christ.
But Paul is not ready to give up on Israel, not even close, Romans 11-2, Paul uses himself as living proof that God has not abandoned Israel. Paul, a Jewish man, believes in Jesus Christ and he is not alone, God has always maintained a faithful remnant, even in the darkest times. Romans 11:11-12, Paul sees a divine strategy at work, Israel’s rejection of the Messiah opened the door for the Gentiles to be included in God’s family, but this is not the end of the story for Israel. Paul believes that one day, Israel as a whole, will turn to Jesus Christ and when that happens, the blessing will be beyond anything the world has ever seen.
To illustrate this, Romans 11:17-18, Paul is warning Gentile Christians against arrogance, they were grafted into God’s plan by grace, not by their own merit, they should not look down on the Jewish people who stumbled. The foundation of their faith, the root of the olive tree is the covenant God made with Israel, Gentile believers owe their spiritual heritage to the Jewish people, not the other way around. Hebrews 11:1, this mysterious force called faith, this is not wishful thinking, the world tells you that faith is closing your eyes and hoping for the best, but the Bible says the exact opposite.
Biblical faith is confidence, it is a solid knowing, it is the ability to treat things that have not happened yet, as if they already have, it is looking at a promise from God and believing it is more real than the ground you are standing on. Hebrews 11:3, everything you can touch and see was made from nothing, it was made by the invisible word of God, if God can create a universe from nothing, surely he can create a miracle in your life when you have nothing left, there are people who proved that this invisible power works in the real world.
