Nothing wrong with alcohol as long as you don't drink it to become drunk (excluding hard liquor, I'm talking about whine and beer). The only good purpose for liquor would be to sanitize or to aid an upset stomach.

Jesus drank whine. We just have to be responsible.

Hmmm.Im thinking eating foods that are high in cholesterol probably cause quite a few deaths a year as well.A little Cholesterol is fine...a lot is not.A little wine is ok as well...drunkeness isnt. There is a multitude of things in this world we can take well beyond any acceptable use....even sex in marriage, for instance, and make those things 'sinful'.That said, however, coming from a long line of drunks and and substance abusers, it wouldnt bother me in the least if there were no such things in this world.

I don't think Jesus drank intoxicating drink, ever. I believe that when He drank wine, He had enough descrecion, wisdom, and purity to not waste his time with something that could in *any way* intoxicate Him or bring His ministry into question... or compromise His goal on earth. I do not believe Jesus ever drank anything that could have intoxicated Him. I can't believe the wine He made or consumed was fermented. That is my humble opinion, of the Jesus I know from scripture.

Day before yesterday I drank a Corona beer and last night I had a margarita! yum!!Alcohol is a deadly drug. There are many deadly drugs out there. How we use something is what can kill us, not the thing itself.

Maybe it was the way you presented yourself. Most here believe in drinking alcohol in moderation is OK. Some people can't handle that and go off the deep end. That's when they should try and stop.

    Something else to consider...
Luke 1:15For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
The above is of course speaking of John the Baptist. Not drinking wine or strong drink seems to follow being great in the sight of the Lord. That is to say that doing the opposite could definitely be considered not doing what was great in the site of the Lord.
Ephesians 5:18, Paul writes:Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
Key word also being, drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. In the prophecy of John's birth we are told, "and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb."Rather than being given to wine or strong drink... John was filled with something that contrasts (being like an opposite of) strong drink and wine, like Paul recommends, John was filled with the Holy Ghost instead. The only argument one can make from scripture that can be made is that drinking alcohal is permissable, though unprofitable and unwise. Of course being given to wine is forbidden for bishops (1 Timothy 3:1-5) And, in my understanding... we should all aspire to be "bishops", even if we don't officially hold the office. Nothing magical happens when someone becomes a bishop... a person becomes a bishop because of their attitude of service to God.

This reminds me of the clean and unclean food issues when we take this to a broader context. Wine and strong drink were not considered unclean foods in the OT. As a matter of fact, such drink was mentioned in the tithing Law. Sometimes the way some so-called Christians give in the offering plate, I wish they had a few strong ones before giving and then things might be better. My wife's the treasurer and I don't always like to hear her complain about the poor giving.Like anything, do so in moderation. Alcohol is not bad for you, in spite of what the medical establishment says, salt is not bad for you, and meat is not bad for you (cholesterol and all). Just balance all this with other healthy stuff and don't take any one thing to excess.

The promise to grow ones hair, and to not drink alcohol to glorify the Lord is known as the Nazirite vow, it is mentioned in the Torah, and Samson was also known for doing this. This is the promise being attached to John the Baptist. It doesn't mean that all Christians should abstain from alcohol. However drunkenness is a sin, this must be taken to account. I personally do not drink, but I will not enforce my decision on anyone.

Cholesterol isn't bad for you either until a bad cell in your body attaches to the Cholesterol making it stick onto the side of veins.Remember when Noah drank, but then became drunk and passed out nude and his sons came and dressed him?Noah drinking isn't a problem. But because he became intoxicated, he defiled himself by lying nude. Bad judgment leads to bad consequences. That's why we must drink to moderation.Confession. I once drank wedding wine on my cousins birthday, I got a little buzzed. Not much of a confession is it. [IMG]

Genesis 9:20-29 And Noah began to be a farmer, and he planted a vineyard. 21 Then he drank of the wine and was drunk, and became uncovered in his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. 23 But Shem and Japheth took a garment, laid it on both their shoulders, and went backward and covered the nakedness of their father. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father’s nakedness. What I meant to say is that because of his bad judgment he undressed and lied nude, that wouldn't be good. As God's people we aught to strive to look our best to represent God. And here Noah is lying naked, probably hung over.

so I take it you go to bed every night fully dressed ready for anything to occur? LOL!!Noah's nudity was not what defiled him it was the shameful behavior of his son Ham.

So it wasn't Noah lying on top of the table completely nude? (Hypothetically speaking)Then why did they cover Noah? I know that Ham played a role in the story. But you can also learn from Noah's drunkenness.

Isaiah 25:6 The LORD of hosts will prepare a lavish banquet for all peoples on this mountain; A banquet of aged wine, choice pieces with marrow, And refined, aged wine.Deuteronomy 14:26 "You may spend the money for whatever your heart desires: for oxen, or sheep, or wine, or strong drink, or whatever your heart desires; and there you shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice, you and your household. It appears that Jesus Himself drank alcoholic wine, to which His critics accused Him of being a drunkard:Luke 7:33-34 "For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, 'He has a demon!' "The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, 'Behold, a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!'SealedEternal

A panel of 20 doctors and scientists was asked in Pageant Magazine, what is the greatest single cause of insanity in the U.S.?
It's not a wife and kids?? What kind of doctors were these?

If I may: I would suggest doing a word study, such as upon H1540 and H6172. Take a look at how each of these is used, and in what context they are used.I would also ask: How would Noah have known? Why would Noah have been so angry? What would have made Noah so angry?Food for thought.
