How many angels are listed by name in the Bible?
I thought just three, Gabriel, Michael, and Lucifer.
Some people tell me there are more.
    Are there?
Or is that just a catholic thing?

I didn't answer the poll, but I could only think of those three.
    Lucifer....satan
    Michael...The Warrior
    Gabriel....The Great Announcer

P.S. Gabriel appeared to Daniel to explain dreams or visions he had.
He appeared to Zacharias to tell him that Elizabeth would bear a child.
He appeared to Mary to tell her that she would be the mother of Jesus.

Is this another one of those idle questions, such as how many angels can dance on the head of a pin? The book of Enoch names many angels, but then again it is classified as Pseudepigraphical.

Anything that can teach us something is useful. Not everybody knows everything.

Actually both Jesus and Paul tells us to shun idle words.

    THE WORDS OF CHRIST
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Mt 12:36,37)

    THE WORDS OF PAUL
King James Bible (1 Tim 1:6)
From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling
    New International Version
Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk.

King James Bible (2 Tim 2:16)
But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
    International Standard Version
However, avoid pointless discussions. For people will become more and more ungodly...

As to the book of Enoch, this fits:
    1. written in the name of another person by an anonymous author

    What on earth are angels?

"Our noun αγγελος (aggelos) initially meant something quite sound but was in later traditions interpreted as the semi-divine or spiritual beings we know today as "angels." ...

Michael and Gabriel are the Archangels...but if a third of the angels fell with Lucifer , then there are a whole lot of ministering angels twice as many as those who fell. When Elisha prayed that the young servants eyes were opened ...he shaw the mountains all around them FULL of angels and chariots.

2 Kings 6:16 "And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them."

As if calling them angels is unsound! αγγελος simply and literally means *messenger*, but angels are more than just messengers according to Scripture. They are ministering spirits, and sometime come upon humans unawares (in the form of men), and sometimes come to minister to them. But what we generally see is that each time they meet men, they do bring a message from God.

i think his premise there is the way we now personify angels, or iow the diff in what angels symbolize to us today v then, as is discussed in the article that you didn't bother with i guess

we are taught to read that as literal history in order to occlude the spiritual truth, or so goes the premise anyway

Addressing the OP, first just because only 3 or more that are mention by name in the scriptures, name are not numbers, there are many.
Rev 5:11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; and that's just around the throne.

and this is excluding those who was chained under darkness.
2Pet 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment. (also see Jude 1:6).

likewise as with good angels, there, in God's economy are evil angels, and God have a host of them both.

when the Lord Jesus was speaking about children, the little ones, he said this,
Matt 18:10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.

two thing, 1. their angels 2. and angels here are in the plural, meaning nore than one.

so each little one, child, have an angel assign to them, if not then the Lord Jesus lie, God forbid.

so there are a lot of children in the world.

you must have read my post correctly, just because a name is not written in the scriptures don't mean it's only 3.

    example,
Judg 13:15 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, I pray thee, let us detain thee, until we shall have made ready a kid for thee.
Judg 13:16 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread: and if thou wilt offer a burnt offering, thou must offer it unto the LORD. For Manoah knew not that he was an angel of the LORD.
Judg 13:17 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour?
Judg 13:18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret?
