Antiochus Epiphanes in 170 B.C. fulfilled the role of the "vile person" in Daniel 11 as a 'type'. The ultimate desolation of that Daniel 11 chapter he did was to end the daily sacrifices in Jerusalem and place an abomination that caused spiritual desolation in the Jerusalem temple. He then demanded all to worship the idol he placed unto Zeus.

This served as a blueprint for what the coming Antichrist at the end of this world will do with setting up the "image of the beast" of Revelation 13. So it's very important to understand what Antiochus did in 170-165 B.C. Jerusalem, for much of that is going to be repeated, as our Lord Jesus in His Olivet discourse warned about the "abomination of desolation" from the Daniel 11 Chapter, showing there is an event still yet to come at the very end of this world involving that act by the Antichrist in Jerusalem.

The book of Maccabees, an apocrypha book written at the end of the 2nd century B.C., described what Antiochus Epiphanes did in Jerusalem with setting up the abomination of desolation...

1 Maccabees
41 Moreover king Antiochus wrote to his whole kingdom, that all should be one people,
42 And every one should leave his laws: so all the heathen agreed according to the commandment of the king.
43 Yea, many also of the Israelites consented to his religion, and sacrificed unto idols, and profaned the sabbath.
44 For the king had sent letters by messengers unto Jerusalem and the cities of Juda that they should follow the strange laws of the land,
45 And forbid burnt offerings, and sacrifice, and drink offerings, in the temple; and that they should profane the sabbaths and festival days:
46 And pollute the sanctuary and holy people:
47 Set up altars, and groves, and chapels of idols, and sacrifice swine's flesh, and unclean beasts:
48 That they should also leave their children uncircumcised, and make their souls abominable with all manner of uncleanness and profanation:
49 To the end they might forget the law, and change all the ordinances.
50 And whosoever would not do according to the commandment of the king, he said, he should die.
51 In the selfsame manner wrote he to his whole kingdom, and appointed overseers over all the people, commanding the cities of Juda to sacrifice, city by city.
52 Then many of the people were gathered unto them, to wit every one that forsook the law; and so they committed evils in the land;
53 And drove the Israelites into secret places, even wheresoever they could flee for succour.
54 Now the fifteenth day of the month Casleu, in the hundred forty and fifth year, they set up the abomination of desolation upon the altar, and builded idol altars throughout the cities of Juda on every side;
55 And burnt incense at the doors of their houses, and in the streets.
56 And when they had rent in pieces the books of the law which they found, they burnt them with fire.
57 And whosoever was found with any the book of the testament, or if any committed to the law, the king's commandment was, that they should put him to death.
58 Thus did they by their authority unto the Israelites every month, to as many as were found in the cities.
59 Now the five and twentieth day of the month they did sacrifice upon the idol altar, which was upon the altar of God.

At this moment, orthodox unbelieving Jews in today's Jerusalem have the materials ready to build another Jewish temple in Jerusalem, and start up the old covenant animal sacrifices again. They don't believe that Messiah has come yet, so they still think they are supposed to do everything in their power to re-institute the old covenant worship with a temple and sacrifices.

God is going to send them a "strong delusion" because of their rejecting His Son Jesus Christ (2 Thess.2). The coming Antichrist will fulfill the final blueprint of the "vile person" in the Daniel 11 Chapter. They will believe it is their Messiah that is come, but it will not be. It will be a fake-Messiah, like our Lord Jesus showed His in the Matthew 24:23-26 Scripture, and again in the Revelation 13:11-17 Scripture, and even Apostle Paul in the 2 Corinthians 11 Scripture about the "another Jesus". So beware!

Actually, it's actually not over people's heads. It's what's under their feet when they walk in the barnyard.

When the commentators decided to disobey the angel's instructions in 12:4 & 9, they started shoveling manure and people have been consuming that manure -- I guess to their delight. As for me, I think I'll obey the angel, and wait for the era approximate to 1948 as directed.

Really shouldn't be over your head dear.

Antiochus IV almost completely fulfilled the events of Daniel 11 about the "vile person". Per that Scripture, the "vile person" takes Jerusalem, makes a "league", and eventually ends the daily sacrifice and places an idol abomination in the temple. This Antiochus IV fulfilled in 165-170 B.C. Jerusalem. He took Jerusalem, ended the daily sacrifices, and instead sacrificed swine upon the altar inside the temple, and then setup an idol abomination to Zeus worship, and demanded all bow in worship to it.

In Matt.24, our Lord Jesus, about 200 years after Antiochus had been dead, warned of a false one coming and placing the "abomination of desolation" of Daniel 11. He was referring to this happening in a standing temple on the temple mount.

Today, orthodox Jews are preparing to build another temple in Jerusalem and startup the old covenant sacrifices again.

(Oh yeah; of course orthodox Jews that hide here don't want this known, because they are getting ready to proclaim the false one coming to Jerusalem to sit in their new temple as their Messiah, and thus God to all nations. Thing is, it won't be Messiah, nor God).

So, rather than leave the "Topic" in suspense, please be aware that "@Davy" is perfectly content picking ONE VERSE out of a WHOLE CHAPTER and making a DECLARATION -- out of context.

@Davy can't even solve the opening verse (verse 2) of the Chapter 11 prophecy, to even BEGIN to arrive at verse 21:

World History[1] [2]

BC
539 - 530 Cyrus the Great
530 - 522 Cambyses
522 - 486 Darius I (Hystaspes)
486 - 465 Xerxes
465 - 423 Artaxerxes I
423 Xerxes II - few weeks
423 Sogdianus - six months
423 - 404 Darius II
404 - 359 Artaxerxes II
359 - 338 Artaxerxes III (Ochus)
338 Arses
338 - 330 Darius III (Codomanus)

[2] Durant, Will, “Story of Civilization: Part I,” Simon and Schuster, NY, 1954, pp 353-354, 381-382

So exactly who are the "three more ... and a fourth" which "shall stir up all against the kingdom of Greece"?

If @Davy were a "Firing Squad" the victim would be tied to a post but @Davy would be wearing the blind fold.

The vile person in Daniel 11 will obtain the kingdom through flattery; that's not how kingdoms were obtained in those days, but only in democracies as we have today.

So the issues is, -- if you follow the angel's guidance in 12:4 & 9, and apply the prophetic depictions in Dan. 11, -- you START at WWI. And today we're poised at Verse 40. But if you assign ANCIENT fulfillments (~335 BC) for an END TIME prophecy, you get LIES. Now they're the BEST LIES that the commentators HAVE, but they're LIES none the less.

As for me, I believe we are WELL SERVED following the angel's guidance, and should wait until the era approximate to 1948 to open up and unseal the words of the Book of Daniel.

Negative on the latter part about democracies we have today. Not wanting to start an argument, but the U.S. is not a democracy. It's a Constitutional Republic. It's the Leftists that keep claiming it's a democracy, because most European countries today are democratic socialist style governments, and the Leftists want the U.S. to follow suit to get the American Union idea going.

Huhhhhh...! Are you saying that because the Roman Empire was never conquered, that the disparate kingdoms, fifedoms, communities, villages, and regions never had a replacement for the ROMAN REPUBLIC MODEL? And because they had no new model to follow, that the world STILL RETAINS various versions of the Senatus Populusque Romanus -- "Senate and the Roman People” bicameral model? So the Fifth Empire of Clay has a RESIDUE OF IRON?!?

" ... and to the Republic for which it stands ... "

Brethren, don't be deceived by those who do NWO Newspeak, comparing the old Roman empire with nations like today's United States Constitutional Republic.

A constitutional republic is a type government where the people elect representatives to govern per an established constitution. It is not an empire with an emperor like the old pagan Roman empire. Nor is it a democracy like ancient Greece.

The purpose of a constitution is to 'limit'... a government's power. This the U.S. Constitution does, if it is followed. And it is every U.S. citizen's responsibility to know and understand what is written in that constitution. The U.S. founders gave many examples of how it is to be interpreted and applied.

Countries Ruled by a Republic

90 [Countries]

It's tough to keep track of all the different systems of government, so this is a list of countries, nations, and states governed or ruled by a republic. Some nations may have multiple ruling bodies or government types, meaning they're not exclusively countries that are governed by republic, but every entry here is built at least partially on a Republican model. This list of countries that use the republic as their form of government also boasts other facts about each nation, including the official language and currency in each republican country today. There are many, many countries with republic governments in the world, and now you can keep track of them all.

Examples of sovereign states on this list include Colombia and the Marshall Islands, as well as Mozambique and the United States of America. These Republican countries may be different in countless respects, but all incorporate republican representation in their civic structures. This list answers the question, "Which countries are ruled by republic?" It's the perfect resource if you've been wondering, "Which countries are governed by republic?"

Yes, the US is a republic, but people cast votes to select their leaders, of whom many use deceit and flattery. This was not how kingdoms were obtained centuries ago. That was my point.

Centuries ago? Do you not have a history book handy? -- I believe the Roman REPUBLIC was conceived at about 100BC. And the various progeny have maintained that REPUBLIC model though TODAY where we see a Senate (for the States until the 14th Amendment) and a House of Representative for the masses.

Perhaps you're better versed in other "giftings". :)

Chopping people's quotes into pieces in order to try and twist their words is evidence of a charlatan, one who bears false witness and is not to be trusted.

Well, you made reference to democracies like ours, with your comparison. And that's not about the idea of a 'kingdom', because our constitutional republic doesn't involve a king; and a republic, regardless of where, is never a democracy. A Democracy is where its citizens vote on each issue. The U.S. founders steered away from that style of government because it's simply not possible for every citizen to vote on each issue that comes up. With a Republic, the citizens elect representatives that vote on each issue for them. Even in the American colonies before the revolution, one of American colonist's main complaints was being taxed from England without representation.

In pagan kingdoms of old, the people often made the kings, even though Daniel 4 shows that God's Hand is involved with them also, and not just with the kings of Israel.
