John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

“As I have loved you” …how has God loved you? A few for me would be Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, [5] Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved

“As I have loved you” …rich in mercy…even when we were dead in sins…quickened us together with Christ…

Another “as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 1 John 4:10-11 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. [11] Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

“As I have loved you” …not that we loved God, but that he loved us…we ought to love one another.

“as I have loved you” how has God loved you?

As a father loves a child...

When my children were babies they would crawl around getting into things. After months of repeatedly telling them no and redirecting them they would still occasionally do what they knew not to. Curiosity I suppose. Sometimes it would end with a bump, bruise, or a broken dish. When you are going through this as a parent it seems like they are never gonna learn and it's frustrating. But your love for them never ceases. No matter how many dishes or lamps, ect. are broke you only love them more everyday.
I believe we are loved by God the same way. Only He is more perfect in loving us as His children than we are ours.

Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

“…as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” As a Father loves a child …Yes! Makes me think of His saying “you have need of patience” thankful to Him who provides and gives all things liberally asked of Him! Equipping For “you have need of patience” in you ought to love one another. “As I have loved you.”
Hebrews 10:34-39 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance. [35] Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. [36] For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. [37] For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. [38] Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. [39] But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
