Ahhhh Babylon!
that gratifying city of the senses
leaving the soul bereft.

Company men ply her marketplaces,
anonymous, without responsibility
the justified cover for vice and power.

On the run
relentlessly gouging for approval and money
the hand played for millennia, covert, overt.

It’s pulsing throng marching steadily
toasting its successes
unperturbed by consequences.

Talented!...a poet you are indeed!....lol....I am not going to bother to search it but I wonder if the word babbling or babbler comes from Babylon....you know like when someone is mentally confused or something and they are just babbling words without making any sense of anything.

um, yikes?
but i'm sure you do not mean to make the association that we will from that lol

lol...no...but I read that article and found some more as well

https://www.blueletterbible.org/lang/lexicon/lexicon.cfm?t=nasb&strongs=h894
Gen. 11:9 Therefore its name was called H894 because there the LORD confused the [fn]language of the whole earth; and from there the LORD scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth.

babble
To babble is to talk on and on without a particular goal. It might drive you crazy when your little sister babbles endlessly about her favorite video game.

Babble sounds like Babel, the Biblical tower where everyone was talking in their own language. Everyone was babbling without paying attention to their neighbors, like the kid who won’t stop talking about his trip to the water park three years ago. A stream or a brook can babble, too, but that’s more of a soothing sound of water against rocks. Babies gurgle, because they don’t have enough words to babble yet.

But hey, this is all irrelevant...your poem is awesome...thanks for sharing!

I imagine it represents everything dysfunctional, particularly the desire to and control of others.

i remember reading this with preconceptions, and assuming it meant "i don't speak the same language as someone from ______ any longer."

But now i'm pretty sure it means "me and my wife do not even have the same definition for the word "tree" lol
