I Corinthians 11:10 "For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels."

Why?
The only real attempt at understanding this that I could find:

This literal translation is one of the most difficult verses in all the New Testament to translate and to interpret properly. Scholars and translators are divided in how to express this verse with proper meaning. First, Paul uses the Greek word exousia (authority), which is used for the authority of God, kings, and rulers, and can be translated “might” or “right.” It never occurs as a metaphor speaking of a piece of apparel. This is not a symbol of authority, but true authority on “the” (not her) head under which she ministers. Before Pentecost, the woman was not seen as anyone with authority, but at Pentecost the Holy Spirit fell upon men and women, giving each person the authority to take the gospel with power to the ends of the earth and prophesy under the direction of the Holy Spirit. The Gospels both begin and end with a visitation of angels to women. The angel Gabriel came to Mary and the angels of God greeted the women at the empty tomb. However, the Aramaic word used here is a homonym that can mean both “power” and “covering/veil.” This may explain the variation of the Greek texts

For this cause ought the woman to have power [the head covering — see Diag. footnote below] on her head because of the angels [messengers].” (1 Cor 11:10 KJV)

The point of this text is summarized well by the Apostle in his opening statements in 1 Corinthians Chapter 11 (Verses 1-10 NKJV).

“Now I praise you, brethren, that you remember me in all things and keep the traditions just as I delivered them to you. But I want you to know that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, for that is one and the same as if her head were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but woman is the glory of man. For man is not from woman, but woman from man. Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority (the veil being a symbol of this) on her head, because of the angels.”

“We see that in the relationship of husband and wife, is prefigured the beautiful relationship between Christ Jesus and the church. And as in the type, so in the antitype, the church, the bride of Christ is to be subject unto him in everything; earnestly seeking at all times to know, and then delighting to do his will. As the woman is not to assume authority and direct her husband, so the church is not to assume authority and to attempt to direct the Lord's work, but is to be "quiet," searching diligently to know his plan and methods, and then endeavoring faithfully to execute them.

When God's plan shall be brought fully into execution, we see that loving authority and joyful submission will fill the universe with blessed peace and everlasting joy--and "God shall be all in all"-- Head over all--his will done in earth as it is done in heaven. (1 Cor. 15:28.) Seeing this to be God's ultimate design, it should be our endeavor, so far as it is in our power, to carry out and illustrate that purpose now. It can only be fully illustrated, however, by those who are "united in the Lord."

The covering of the head by the woman (1 Cor. 11:10), signifies submission to authority; a recognition of God's order of headship. It symbolizes the relationship between the church and her head, Christ Jesus. The same thing was illustrated in the attire of the priesthood: the high-priest wore a mitre or crown and the under-priests (representatives of the church, the bride), wore "bonnets" or head coverings, indicating that they were not the head but under authority to the Chief-Priest.”

*Benson gives it as his opinion that because the Hebrew word radid, (which come from the word radad, to have power) signifies a veil; the apostle uses the word *exousia, authority to denote a veil because the Hebrew women veiled themselves in presence of the men, in token of their being under their power of authority. The veil used by Eastern women was so large as to cover a great part of their body. Ruth’s veil held six measures of barley. (Ruth 3:15)

A veil of this sort, called a plaid, was worn long ago by the women of Scotland. Macknight. Power seems to have been the name of the headdress; so called because like a diadem or turban it was sometimes a mark of rank. Sharpe.

*Strong’s # 1849. ἐξουσία (exousia): power to act, authority.

Thayer’s Greek Lexicon: 1. power of choice, liberty of doing as one pleases; leave or permission.

The Church willingly submits to the authority of its head, Christ Jesus our Lord.

As for the clause “because of angels” this one is a bit more difficult of interpretation. Although the word angel carries several meanings it is believed here that the reference is in regards to actual angels.

The following excerpt from the Pulpit Commentary seems relevant:

“The question is whether the allusion is to good or bad angels. In favor of the latter view is the universal tradition among the Jews that the angels fell by lust for mortal women, which was the Jewish way of interpreting Gen 6:1, 2. This is the view of Tertullian ('De Virg. Vel.,' 7) in writing on this subject. A woman, in the opinion and traditions of Oriental Jews, is liable to injury from the shedim (demons), if she appears in public unveiled; and these evil spirits are supposed to delight in the appearance of unveiled women. The objection to this view, that angeloi (angel) alone is never used of evil but always of good angels, is not perhaps decisive (see 1 Cor 6:3). The verse may, however, mean (in accordance with the Jewish belief of those days) that good angels, being under the possibility of falling from the same cause as their evil brethren, fly away at once from the presence of unveiled women. Thus Khadijah tested that the visitant of her husband Mohammed really was the angel Gabriel, because he disappeared the moment she unveiled her head. On the whole, however, the meaning seems to be, out of respect and reverence for the holy angels, who are always invisibly present in the Christian assemblies (On this point, see Luke 15:10; Eph 3:10; Heb 1:14; 12:1; Eccl 5:6; Psa 138:1).”

It's not that complicated, all you gotta do is go back to the Garden, and then to Gen 6.

I Corinthians 11:10 "For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels."

It is for this reason that the woman ought to have the power, which is the authority of that God gives to each of us, when we are in Christ. This again is written to the end generation, and our power and authority come from the Word of God. That knowledge and wisdom that is in the Word of God is where our power comes from, and we must have that wisdom in our mind or we will not stand in the day of the deception. This goes way back to Genesis 6, and it pertains to what the angels did when they came to earth. It was for this reason that the flood of Noah came to be, for Satan could not destroy the Seed, so he tried to destroy the coming of Christ through Eve's daughters.

Genesis 6:1 "And it came to pass, when the men began to multiply one the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,"

So the subject that we are trying to learn is why does a woman today ever have to protect herself from angels? Got the subject here? Daughters are born to men.

Genesis 6:2 "That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose."

"Sons of God" are the "Nephilim" or "fallen angels". They are the angels that have committed themselves to Satan in his fall in the first earth age. These fallen angels saw that the daughters of flesh men were very beautiful, and they wanted to take them for their wives. Remember that flesh man was created from the dust of the earth, and the woman was created just like the man, also from the dust of the earth as a companion for each other. These fallen angels sought to have the things of flesh man, and their experiences of marriage, without being born of woman.

Angels are supernatural beings of a different form and dimension, and these fallen angels took for themselves the daughters that they wanted. This went directly against God's plan of our flesh age. They have the power and the supernatural wisdom to take what they wanted from flesh man.

Genesis 6:3 "And the Lord said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years."

Remember that in Adams day the life span of man was set at one thousand years, and now God has shortened that life span to one hundred and twenty years. Why? Because of what was happening to flesh man that God had created. The human race was now becoming hybrids of half flesh man, and half angelic.

Genesis 6:4 "There were (giants) in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same become mighty men which were of old, men of renown."

These "Giants", or Nephyil" as stated in the Hebrew text, were the offspring of the fallen angels [Nephilim], and the offspring that were born through these daughters of flesh man are called the "children" in the translation to English, but in the Strong's Hebrew dictionary there is no number given. This is because these offspring of the union between the fallen angels and the daughters of men could not be labeled in the category of human children. These creature offspring did exist, and the sexual union is possible.

Remember that when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, God fed them with angel food, "manna". Angels can live on flesh, man's food and vise versa. If you ever wondered what the angels look like, just look at any man, for flesh man was created in the image of God and the angels. Genesis 1:27; "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them." The angel in the flesh male form is exactly as Adam was.

As the women or daughters of flesh man bare their offspring, these creatures or offspring of the angels became as they were before from the first earth age. They had all the knowledge of the first earth age, and knew of the events that had happened to them. They were born without the freedom of innocence to chose God or Satan, because they had the knowledge of exactly what they did themselves in that first earth age. There was no innocence in their minds. Remember that the reason for our being born from "above" [born again], through the womb of woman is so that each soul that enters into the embryo of a woman at conception, will be born from above, with the right to chose for him or herself whether they will follow God or Satan. These souls within these creatures born from the union between angels and women simply did not have that right.
