Let me talk to you about how to get up to speed, regarding understanding the NT, Paul, and "justification by faith".

Saint....The Bible, the entire bible, is God showing you how He deals with mankind, over time, making changes.

And revelation changes, because the bible is a book of progressive revelation.
The word of God is "being revealed", as time manifest this reality before you very eyes.

For example, you have the Old Testament, which is not the New Testament.
You have the Old Covenant, which is not the New Covenant.
In the Old, you have animal sacrifices that could not keep you righteous or make you righteous.
In the New Testament God CHANGED all this, and offered HIMSELF as Christ's Blood, which is freely given, and this BLOOD Atonement IS the eternal Power to not only keep you sinless, but keep you saved.

So, see that difference?
That is God doing something in the past, that He changed into something different and completed, or as Jesus said from the Cross..."it is FINISHED", or "it is Accomplished".
= Your Salvation.

So, the Bible is a book of progressive revelation.., and you have to catch up and stay in the current, or you will be found stuck in the previous that is irrelevant.

2nd Key.

When reading what an Apostle has written, you have to discern this according to the same rule that rightly divides the word of God.
This rule is.....God's word is a progressive revelation.
For example, right now we are in the "time of the Gentiles"....and there are RULES related to this dispensation.
This "time of the Gentiles" will END, and that means new rules , the next revelation, will begin, and that is the Great Trib.
And after that, more revelation, and more new rules..

So...when you are reading an Apostles letters, or you are reading what they do in the Acts of the Apostles, you have to always realize that they were learning about the next God given revelation, same as you.
And not all of them had the same revelation of what God was doing= at that time.
If you can realize this.......and find this LIGHT< then you can keep from becoming trapped in a cult's theology, that was created because they stopped in a past revelation, and God kept going as the word, being revealed.

So, lets look at Acts 2:38.

This is a transition chapter, where you have Peter enlisting the OT "water baptism" theology, of the Jews,.
And that is what he knew at the time...
But God's REVELATION moved on, because the Cross was now given, the Blood of Jesus was now shed, and the "Gift of Salvation" was the = new Revelation.
See, "the Gift of Salvation" is not water baptism.....

The Gift of Salvation is the NEW REVELATION of the "Gospel of the Grace of God", which is "justification by faith".

See that?
THat is God bringing in the new Light, that Peter didnt have yet, in Acts 2.
What happened is this...... AFTER Acts 2, Jesus called PAUL to be the chosen "apostle to the gentiles', IN THE "TIME OF THE GENTILES", ....AND Paul was given the next reveal, which is what Paul calls "my Gospel"..
And THAT ONE< is "faith is accepted as righteousness". "without works".
Paul's Gospel, is the current revelation of Salvation that is active in the "time of the Gentiles", that Peter was not given yet, in Acts 2.
Result? Peter can't preach in Acts 2 what Peter does not yet know.

So, if you are in a denomination that is preaching Peter's Acts 2 water baptism, then your denomination is not "current revelation", as found in Paul's gospel, that came LATER.
The current revelation is "time of the Gentiles" and that is Paul the "gentile apostle" with all the Light given that you are to understand, so that you are following the correct Light of Revelation, in the "time of the Gentiles", given to you by the "Apostle TO the Gentiles"

The bible is God's revelation, being revealed.
God's revelation is not stagnant, its not unchanging.....its in fact, is quite fluid.

Consider that you have Adam and Eve, and there is no "law", as the law came later by "Moses".

You have : from Moses TO the Cross, where the Law was in dominion, and man was "under the law".

When the Cross was raised, the Law is abolished "in Christ" if you are born again, and now you are "under Grace".

So, in this "time of the Gentiles" that has replaced the Old Covenant with the New Testament, you have new rules.
These rules are about to change, into what can be thought of as the next dispensation.
A "dispensation" is God doing something different, regarding how God deals with MAN, over time.

So the next one is the Great Trib, and the rules are changed.

So, in these few instances of time, these "dispensations", which are literally very short periods when compared to an Eternal Being who is not defined by the boundary of Time....who has no beginning or end...all that we think of as millions or thousands of years, is to God Almighty, ... a very short period.

It's a pity not more understand this.

I'm often put down for seeing dispensational differences in the Bible, and yet, whenever I ask, no one is building an ark! Not one!

So we all know that God did different things in different times.

Paul, the tent maker, knew what a catastrophe you could stitch together if you didn't "rightly divide".

Much love!

Brother, they are not taught it.

Sheep need to be led and fed, and that has to start with GRACE and Doctrine, and some basic understanding of dispensations.
