Matthew 5:

5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
What is this usage of "inherit"?

Thayer's Greek Lexicon

  1. "to receive a lot, receive by lot; especially to receive a part of an inheritance, receive as an inheritance, obtain by right of inheritance";
The first meaning has to do with inheritance after the death of someone. There is a more general meaning:

2. universally, "to receive the portion assigned to one, receive an allotted portion, receive as one's own or as a possession; to become partaker of, to obtain".
This develops into a special usage:

But as the Israelites after taking possession of the land were harassed almost perpetually by their hostile neighbors, and even driven out of the country for a considerable period, it came to pass that the phrase was transferred to denote the tranquil and stable possession of the holy land crowned with all divine blessings, an experience which pious Israelites were to expect under the Messiah: Psalm 24:13 (); Psalm 36:9, 11, 22, 29, 34 () Alex.; Isaiah 60:21; Tobit 4:12; ἐκ δευτέρας κληρονομήσουσι τήν γῆν, Isaiah 61:7; hence, it became a formula denoting to partake of eternal salvation in the Messiah's kingdom: Matthew 5:5.
Matthew 19:

29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.
They will obtain and partake in eternal life.

… then who are the “meek” who will “inherit the Earth”?
Matthew 5:5

When Jesus said (in the model prayer to his Father) at Matthew 6:9,10… “Let your Kingdom come, let your will take place on Earth, as it is in Heaven”…. what is God’s will for the Earth?

Does Isaiah 11:6-9, Revelation 21:3,4 (“the tent of God is with mankind”), and other passages give us a glimpse?

I think so.
This may help you -

The “reign upon the earth” comes after 1,000 years [Rev. 20:2,3,4,5,6,7], for the “saints” must be both resurrected &/or translated, glorified, & brought back to Heaven [Jhn. 14:1-4; 1 Thes. 4:17, etc] at the 2nd Advent & First Great Resurrection (Job 14:5-15), to “reign” in Heaven, for 1,000 years [Rev. 20:4,5a,6] going over the record books of the lost [1 Cor. 6:2,3; Psa. 149:1-9]. It is obvious that “1000 years” (limited, finite), is not “for ever and ever” (eternal, no end).

[A.] The “thousand years” reign “in Heaven” [Psa. 50:5; Mat. 5:3,8,10,12, 6:20, 13:30, 24:31; Mar. 10:21, 13:27; Luk. 6:23, 18:22, 23:43; Jhn. 14:2-3, 17:24; Col. 1:5; Heb. 10:34; 1 Pet. 1:4; Rev. 7:9, 14:3, 19:1; “Paradise”, Luk. 23:43; 2 Cor. 12:4; Rev. 2:7] with Christ Jesus [1 Thes. 4:16-17; Rev. 20:6] and so followed by
[B.] The “reign on earth” [“made new”, not this sin polluted Earth, followed by 7 last plagues, massive earthquake, & sky torn apart; Exo. 20:12; Deu. 5:16 (Eph. 6:2); Job 19:26; 2 Pet. 3:13; Isa. 65:17, 66:22; Rev. 21:1] that lasts “forever and ever” [Rev. 5:10; “meek inherit earth” [“made new”, not this sin polluted Earth], Psa. 37:9,11,34; Pro. 11:31; Isa. 25:8, 65:21; Dan. 7:27; Mat. 5:5; Rev. 5:10].

So, “the meek” will have “eternal life” “on Earth”?

Why or why not?
God loves the meek, the quiet and gentle spirit, the humble, the honest, the righteous. And He has mercy on those who suffer now, who are poor, lonely, fatherless and the widow.

It shouldn't surprise us that God will save such into an inheritance of eternal life
