So you want to know the one major thing that lead me away from Christianity?

    Porn.

Ever since I was a Christian I battled with a pornographic obsession. I took it to Jesus for 20 long year's, but my sexual cravings were never remedied. Now I did everything I could on my end, but I slid further & further in to that world. I clung to Jesus for the hope that one day he'd show me how to be free, but that day never arrived.

I just want to know why.

God abandons no one who submits to him. He knows our weaknesses and will not allow us to tempted above what we are able providing we run for refuge to him as did King David and Jacob. It is not possible to love the values of the world and God at the same time, contrary what most like to think.
And do not think that your temptations are greater than other folk have. Sexual cravings are not remedied if they're fed. Yes, its a struggle, thats what we are promised. We are not promised cake and tea Sunday afternoon.

To give up the prize of life in exchange short term self gratification is the error of Esau.

Could your depression be like that of Sauls? He had opportunity to hear God's message as did Judas but refused. Both suicided.
He calls us out of the pit but we have to want out at the core. Regret for surrounding circumstances is not repentance.

The desert of defeat. Nothing positive about it. No discipline. Devoid of wisdom.
    Mat 3:1-3
    (1) In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
    (2) And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
    (3) For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

There are some encouraging videos and memes in the Addiction/Recovery section whenever you feel depressed. I try to focus on positive things.

I dabbled in things. When my husband and I first got married, I saw my husband viewing things and I got into it. I thought it would help me, because of past sexual abuse, because we had trouble with intimacy. And I was drawn to rape things... Not so much now, but it is very hard to keep out of the head. And as a Christian and one who desires to be a loyal wife and Proverbs 31 wife and mother, that shame eats away. Neither my hubby or I are in this now. And our intimacy has improved a lot. But I get tempted ever so often and thoughts are the hardest to set right again. But yeh, why I don't pm men and fill my mind with good things now. But anyway. Moving on. Lol.

But keep up the good fight. It is good to be convicted of it. When I self injured, I was very hard on myself when I gave in, and a mentor offered me some advice: she said, "I self injured for the longest time, and I realized it was a cycle that Id cut more when I felt guilty for doing it to begin with. I learned to talk to God and just say "oops I did it again, forgive me and give me strength. And move on from my pity party." It was actually very helpful advice. And same goes for this.

Shame can eat you up. Obviously, you have a conviction and want to do what is right. God will help you fight every temptation. :) And if you are a believer, Jesus forgives you of the worst of sin.

Oh oops I missed the part about lead way from Christianity. :D especially in something like this...it is going to be very hard to overcome without the strength of God. If this was the main thing that lead you away from Christ, I would try to reevaluate that. You should post your own encouraging meme thread!

I know you said you slipped back more and more...I just think it strengthens us and helps in our struggles to draw closer to Him.

And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
    2 Corinthians 12:9 NASB

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me. Whether then it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed.
    1 Corinthians 15:3‭-‬4‭, ‬6‭, ‬8‭-‬11 NASB

It strengthens our testimony when we can still trust in God in our weakness. Look at Paul. He persecuted Christians!

Anyway I have more scriptures if you want to hear them, but I don't want to throw a Bible bash. But know the sugar addiction is a strong one today. I hate everything sweet! :D

One thing that helped me quit smoking was doing it for my wife. When you harness the power of love, you can beat any addiction. Try overcoming any addiction for the sake of someone else and you'll find the power of God in your behalf.

Here's the deal, either you discipline yourself with God's help, or God help you if you don't!
